We are planning to start on 12th August. Half the party comes from Bangalore, the other half from Bhubaneshwar. Some more yet might join from Delhi. We start riding from Delhi and get back there by 26th. Closely following this thread to finalize a day-to-day itinerary.
Any ideas on what to anticipate in terms of rains and weather in August?

The Fazer being referred to here was from our group last year, where it had difficulty in climbing K-Top and did not climb Chang-La at all. This was due to a clogged carb. After getting the carb cleaned at leh, the rest of the passes on Manali-Leh highway was conquered easily by the fazer. So the point here is make sure ur bike is in good condition and it would climb all the passes.Originally posted by Sumit_B View PostThank you, rungtavikas.
There are many successful Leh-Ladakh trips on FZ-Fazer as well. Unexpected hiccups are part of the ride because of the altitude, climate, terrain, etc. Any bike (FI/ carb) has to be in good condition n well prepared for a smooth ride in these conditions (along with the riders positive attitude
).
Cheers. Ride safe.

You can expect a bit of rain on the Srinagar axis and lots of it on the Manali one. All roads esp those from Upshi to Manali would be slushy.

I' m Planning for Ladakh trip this year and was reading various blogs, travelogues and other tips for it. Initially I was not owning any bike and was planning to have one. The reason why i dont buy FZ- Fazer was due to your experience and i personally don't want to have bullet. Even i had in mind, not to buy a carb bike. Now i own a DUKE. Please don't have feeling, i love my duke more than any other bike and Now i Would not restrict any person to not to use particular bike instead will ask to improve bike condition before the trip.
My Ladakh trip is also postponed to next year

Hi diff,Originally posted by diffuser911 View PostThanks icemang. We will plan according to avoid the rains and slush.
You are welcome. As you are already thinking of Aug, why not go further and start in the 2nd week of September. Minimal crowds, lesser problems of hypoxia, cheaper hotel rates and better roads. I had wanted to do it in Sep but leave then was almost impossible.

Heavy snow in LEHOriginally posted by Calibre View PostHey guys,
A group of my friends are just back from their first ever Leh trip.
The roads are pretty good on the Manali-Leh route and its snowing heavily in Leh it seems. These guys had a hard time in the snow last week.

All this is due to climate change; when I was there from 96 to 98, there used to be hardly any of it.
Could you put up some fotos, if possible?Last edited by icemang; 05-30-2012, 06:53 PM.

Icemang, I am OK going anytime of the year, but it will be difficult finding riding partners in Sep. I keep wishing I had a job in Delhi/ChandigarhOriginally posted by icemang View PostHi diff,
