Guys Please Help!!! Need Help for trip to LEH
Hey guys!!!
This is Amrit, I'm new to xbhp and need help from you guys regarding LEH trip.
Actually we are 6 guys planning to go to LEH from Dehradun on our bikes (Pulsar 180, Pulsar 200, Apache RTR 180) on 3rd of July.
We have planned our route till Manali. But after that we are unable to paln our trip from Manali to Leh. Please help me out.
The actual scenario we have planned is like this:
3rd July at 5.00 AM starting the trip from DEHRADUN and planning to go to SHIMLA (around 250kms) and night stay at SHIMLA.
4th July at 5.00 AM as per planned moving to MANALI(another 250kms) on the same day and night stay at MANALI.
The problem is that after night stay at MANALI, we are planning to move at around 6.00 in the morning, but we dont know how much we should travel on the first day on the way to LEH so that we can get sophisticated place to stay at night and which route to take, neither we know the road conditions (and same for the next day.
PLEASE Guys help me out ASAP.
THANKYOU
xBHP ROCKSS!!!

Forgot to mention. Unless you are backtracking on Day 3, till Karu and then head towards Tso Moriri (via Chumathang), you will not encounter any fuel stations enroute.Originally posted by The One View PostSounds like a good plan. Thanks
So, either you carry spare fuel with you OR back track and tankup at Karu before heading to Tso Moriri.
And, if you plan to head towards Manali, from Tso Moriri, you will have next fuel station at Tandi. So, even if you tank up at Karu, you will have to carry spare fuel.
How much? Will depend on which option you take & what kind of FE your bike is returning and what's the tank capacity.2000 Suzuki Fiero | 2004 Bullet Electra | 2004 RX135 | 2005 CBZ | 2009 Karizma | 2009 Punto 1.4 Petrol | 2011 Yamaha YZF-R15

For your information here is the map.
Guys,
Does anyone has information on Tso Moriri? How far it's from Leh and if it can be clubbed with a Pangong-Nubra visit? Anyone planning to visit Tso Moriri can please share some info?
Pangong lake and Tsomoriri can be clubbed .There are two routes for Tsomoriri from Pangong out of which one is a metalled road and if you want to go ahead, better ask some locals at Pangong the present road conditions. If you have sufficient fuel with you, I hope you would be able to do it in one day, if you are really short of time.

How many photocopies of driving license, passport, voter id will suffice? I read somewhere that if we hire bikes in Leh, they will keep our passport or license as deposit. Does that mean that we don't need to carry license while riding to Khardung La, Pangong or Tso Moriri? I will be little uncomfortable in depositing my passport though.Strength is measured in pounds.

Sorry friends, it seems like I am asking just too many questions here which could have been clubbed into one. Maybe I am a little too excited since yesterday as client approved my leave request
. But, I am putting up as they are coming to my mind.
Another one is that how to deal with punctures, bike breakdowns while you leave from Leh and are in middle of nowhere(eg en-route Pangong, Tso Moriri etc)? We will be a group of 4 riding on 3 bikes which we will hire in Leh only. Rest of the journey is by car. I am not sure if we can fix punctures by ourselves but I haven't tried it ever so am not sure.Strength is measured in pounds.

Dont worry.. Thats a worst case scenario. Hence people say, ensure you bike is in perfect condition before commencing this ride. Still in case of such issues like punctures.. You may carry a foot pump to fill up the air & keep moving until the next help or a tubeless tyre helps here or get help from other bikers or last option is to request a truck wala for the lift.Originally posted by The One View PostAnother one is that how to deal with punctures, bike breakdowns while you leave from Leh and are in middle of nowhere(eg en-route Pangong, Tso Moriri etc)? I would say, ensure your bike is running in perfect condition. Then relax & get on the journey

Thanks Rachit. Will check the bikes thoroughly before leaving from Leh and will carry a foot pump along with other stuff. Fixing puncture is very easy. Pay a puncture guy and let him teach you. Its worth the cost you pay. Carry 2 spare tube. One each for front and rear for worst case scenario. Purchase the following to fix a puncture.Originally posted by The One View PostAnother one is that how to deal with punctures, bike breakdowns while you leave from Leh and are in middle of nowhere(eg en-route Pangong, Tso Moriri etc)? Tube valve core removal tool; Set of tire iron/lever; manual pump; patch repair sheet (rubber) - All these available in hardware store & do not cost a lot.
I assume you will always have 1 litre water bottle with you and a collapsible cup will help you find where air leaks.

Query about Passport and other Documents:
No one asks for your Passport or Driving Licence at Khardungla. They just want a copy of the permit at South Pullu which is the check post from Leh side and same is the case at every check post. You have to just deposit the Permit. Keep in mind that the route you are travelling should be included in the permit. Just check the points to be mentioned in the Permit while applying for the same at DC Office so that you don't face any difficulty to move ahead towards your designated places.
Query about Puncture :
Puncture occur due to sharp stone and not due to iron nails etc. in 95% of cases. Thus, you have to ensure every day that the air pressure in your tyre is optimum as recommended.
On way to Hundar, there is a puncture shop at Diskit. You can ask any body at Diskit and he will guide to his shop. He is a nice gay and can be disturbed at odd hours also as his house is nearby.(During my soloride to these places I did get into this situation only once and that gay was of great help, and I also had the foot pump which helped me to take my bike to his shop comfortably).
Here is the route map I had prepared for my trip. The altitude of difference places enroute leh and around has also been displayed so that you can have a fair idea at which altitude you are travelling.
BTW: Don't be so excited about puncture. In my over 6 years of such type of touring and covering around 25,000 kms. in all, I have faced this situation only once (at Hundar) and was not much of a problem, by God's grace.
All the bestLast edited by Hoodibaba; 06-08-2012, 07:27 PM.
