    • Leh Permits in Delhi?

      Hi Friends,

Is it possible to get permits for Khardung La, Pangong & Nubra in Delhi itself? If it is, then can someone suggest where?

      Thanks

To my knowledge its not possible to get them from Delhi. However you can contact any travel agent in Leh to help you get a permit before you reach there. Send your documents to them and they will get the permits for you.
Or else get the permits from the DC's office when you reach there.
Mention the places you intend to visit.

Note: Please keep in mind the govt holidays when you plan your trip. We couldnt get permits for 2 days due to govt holidays .

Thanks Calibre. I was just trying my luck so we could save time when in Leh. However, I have heard that it doesn't take much effort & time to get permits if you have the required documents. We are going to Leh in June last week and there are no Indian holidays around that time so hopefully there won't be issues. One question: Is Leh DC office open on Saturdays & Sundays?

No they are open only on weekdays. It will hardly take 2 hours only to get the permits. Get the permits the day you reach there and go for local sightseeing that day. Next day start early for Khardungla and beyond.

Thanks again Calibre. Will definitely keep these things in mind.

Cool dude i was thinking to take My Duke this year to khardung la but there are many constraints which are restricting me to visit this year, any ways keeping my hope to go tour in July.
Please do share your review about the tour.

Dude, i have read in one of the travelogue, that fazer was not able to climp khardung la and not even to 2nd highest peak chang la on the way to pangong lake. Pls do take note of it and take couple of extra air filter (atleast 1 with few extra hole).
                  Have a pleasant journey

                    Thank you, rungtavikas.

There are many successful Leh-Ladakh trips on FZ-Fazer as well. Unexpected hiccups are part of the ride because of the altitude, climate, terrain, etc. Any bike (FI/ carb) has to be in good condition n well prepared for a smooth ride in these conditions (along with the riders positive attitude ).

                    Cheers. Ride safe.

Climb for Chang La is much steeper than that of Khardung La. With proper modification, my FZ climbed khardung La easily.

It is absolutely not necessary. Unless you enjoy carrying around dead weight, don't do it.

                          • As I am traveling by bike and the Accessories like Puncher Kit, Tube, Tool Kit, Foot Pump etc… (Particularly this items only I am taking about) should I purchase it from Manali (Easily Available?) or should I purchase it beforehand from my starting destination which is pune.
Buy it from Pune and learn how to use them. If you don't know how to use them, there is no point in carrying them.

                          Yes, can be done.
But are you going to Nubra to add check mark or to enjoy?

Any bike that is not properly maintained can break down. As you don't have any experience of riding a Bullet, I'll suggest you hire a bike that you are used to of riding.

                          - If you rent out a CBZ (old one, not the Xtreme) or Karizma (the carb one). You might face difficulty while climbing at higher altitude. But, I'm sure the guy in Manali should give you the bike tuned for it. Still, just check with him.
                          - Staying options at Pang and Sarchu are only tents. It can get cold during night, more so if its a windy night.
                          - Chances of getting hit by AMS are higher at Pang/Sarchu. So, talk to a well informed doctor (who also knows about your medical history) and take his advice.
                          - Try to start riding early in morning. All the water crossings normally have lesser water early in the day. But don't start too early (like in dark) as you might encounter frozen water/ice or black ice at higher altitudes. Be careful about them at passes and Baralachla specially.
                          - While the temperature might not be too much, if its windy. It can get very cold. So, prepare accordingly.
                          - It might also rain. So, carry appropriate rain gear.
                          - The light could be harsh, so either use a dark visor or carry sun glasses and wear them.
                          - It will be cold and dry, so decide on the use of cold cream.

Leh to Nubra and back will be about 450 kms which is too much at that altitude so not at all recommended.
It is better that you get a bike that you are familiar with. I have no comments about Bullets as I don't want to be flamed
