BLR-Kanakapura-ShivanaSamudra : road conditions are good, but looks out for buses and trucks which crop out of nowhere.

Shivanasamudra-Malavalli-KM Doddi-Maddur: Overall decent roads. malavalli-Km Doddi used to be an above average lonely roads passing though Paddy fields. Not very sure about the conditions now.

      Maddur-Blore: overall good roads.

      or you can also take:

BLR-Shivanasamudra-Sathanur-Channapatna: involves some off roading (If you wish) and roads not that great till Channapatna.

**CAUTION** Avoid stopping vehicles in the dhimbam Ghat roads. In recent days there have been leapord attacks in the open roads itself.

Met this forest gaurd in the Thalamalai checkpost about 2 weeks before, feeling sad. Pray for his soul RIP!

          Route Taken : Bangalore-Kanakapura-Kollegala-BR.Hills-K.Gudi-Chamarajanagar-Nanjangud-Hullahalli-Hampapura-HD kote Handpost-Bavali-Kattikulam-Mananthavady-Banasurasagar Dam-Kalpetta-Gundlupet-Mysore-Bangalore.

          Bangalore-Kanakapura-Kollegala:
          Good roads throughout.

Kollegala-Gowdanahalli-BR hills-K Gudi-Chamarajanagar : the old Gowdanahalli road is asphalted. The Roads from Checkpost to the Biligiri Ranga Temple is Relaid and is in fantastic Shape. BR hills to K gudi to Chamarajanagar via Nagavalli too holding up in good shape. One has to be a bit gentle on the speed breakers as they are a bit high and can cause damage if encountered at a good speed.

Chamarajanagar to Nanjangud: Average to above average roads. Some bad potholes do exist, so have to be a tad careful if using this stretch at night.

Nanjangud-HD Kote-Kabini-Nagarahole Checkpost: No nonsense country side roads, with paddy, Sunflower, Sugarcane fields passing by with good roads for company. You do get a chance to see the Backwaters of Kabini once in a while.

Nagarahole Checkpost-Bavali-Mananthavady: One Word "BLISS" more so when coupled with rains. For bikers who would like to experience Nagarahole, this would be a good alternative. The road is in the best of its shape.

Mananthavady-Banasurasagar Dam-Kalpetta: Narrow roads but are in good condition.

Kalpetta-Sulthan Bathery-Gundlupet: All the bad sections has been relaid and a very good experience to ride through.

          Gundlupet-Mysore-Bangalore: Overall good roads.

Parts of KA update - Monsoon 2014

NH 13 Mangalore to Sringeri lovely roads... lashing monsoons but beautiful surface.

NH 17 Mangalore to Udupi is completed 4 lane smooth roads. Udupi to Kundapur (4 laning work in progress) Kundapur to Karwar fantastic 2 lane surface.

Sringeri, Mudigere (Badra Cafe), Chikmagalur, Belur, Hassan roads very good surfaces.

NH 48 - Hassan to Bangalore is a well kept tolled road so no issues.

Pleasantly surprised by the road surfaces generally.

NH 234 - Charmadi Ghat rd from Mangalore to Chikmagalur was especially good when I went there in June. Probably better than the normal MLR-BLR rd till Sakleshpur.

I am planning to go from Bangalore to Jog to Honnavar in the next week or so.
Any advice on the road conditions, esp after this year's rains.

Also looking for advice on a good route back to Bangalore. Which one would be better:
                    1. via Mangalore
                    2. via Agumbe
3 Any other route. (don't really want to return via the same route as while going)

                    TIA.

Roads are overall good , inspite of heavy rains. The forest sections on the Jog-gerusoppa-honnavar might be a bit worn out but nothing to worry at all.

                      Return , you can do
1.honnavar-koteshwar-halady-someshwar-aagumbe-sringeri-s.K.border-kudremukh-kalasa-kottigehara-belur-hassan-bangalore. Needs an early start from bangalore , roads were overall good few months back. Some sections of aagumbe sringeri had worn out because of laying of piped tunnels and some sectionw of sringeri to kalasa. But nothing yo worry for two wheelers.

                      2. Honnavar-karkala-bajagoli-kudremukh kalasa(rest sae as route 1)

                      3. Honnavar-karkala-belthangady-charmadi kottigehara(rest same as route 1)
Roads around karakala were bad , not sure of present conditions , even if worsened, less problems for two wheelers.

                              Hey folks,
A couple of friends and me are on a trip from Chennai to Calicut via Kodai where we will be vacationaing for a few days, so just wanted to ask you friendly people out there about the road conditions from Chennai to Kodai as well as from Kodai to Calicut.

                              The Route

                              Leg 1
Chennai - Chengalpattu - Perambur - Trichi BP - Dindigul BP - Batlagundu - Kodaikanal

Just want to know road conditions of above route

                              Leg 2
                              Kodaikanal - Palani - Pollachi - Palakkad - Malappuram - Calicut

For the 2nd Leg ride need some serious advice because we basically just connected dots on google maps and have no idea what we are getting ourselves into.

Any help would be much appreciated
                              Thanks in advance
