is that the cramster turtle tank bag bro?? and can it hold a dslr,lens,5 shirts, 2 shorts, a jean, a 500ml bottle and toiletries? thats the max i carry in my bag. will this suit? also is it better upfront or behind? i think i will zero in on this.
the website says it can be made into a backpack too. is that true?
Whoa, that list a bit too long. I have packed it with a DSLR (no extra lens), a handy cam, 1 shirt, 1 pair of jeans, a bino, toiletries (barest min). Even though the bottom can be deepened by unzipping out an extension portion, remember that it is after all a tank and not a saddle bag. Excellent product from Cramster. Good features:

--- A top flap with zippered map case and underneath, a mesh pocket for a hand towel, snack bars etc

--- Small sidepockets on either side for keys, fags and lighter and such small stuff

---Extendible main bay, becomes really deep

    --- Rugged removeable shoulder strap

--- Elasticized rain cover which folds into its own space

--- Tough close mesh nylon construction, reasonably water resistant

I prefer it on the tank as the camera, goggle case, binos, fags, map, notebook and pen etc are within easy and quick reach when on a tour. Also, it steadies the front suspension on my CBR very well.

And yes, there are four plastic D rings on the base through which one can thread a strap to convert it into a backpack.

I used it on my Leh trip and it was invaluable. Full value for money.

      +Million!!!
This is the key to any saddlebag or tailbag; if they don't have D Rings...don't buy them. All the hooks, bungee are all prone to give up after a while. I learned this through hard way

As a matter of fact, one can construct their own tail bag (or even saddlebag) at friendly neighborhood bag shop; offlate I'm very seriously contemplating to construct one, but the issue (ofcourse global one) is friendliness. Those guys are ready to stitch something of their choice & throw at me rather than trying (or call it experiment if you want) to learn & make new one.

hahaha.. he said he carried a months supplies so I assumed that it would suit. i carried all that in this bag. I know it cant carry much but it should be good enough for a week at the least. I want the camera to be ready at hand hence going for a tank bag. Now am confused.

btw does the bag come with the straps to convert it to a backpack or you have to get them separately?

If someone is looking for option for ready access to their camera while riding and are using a DSLR or DSLR Like High Zoom cameras then IMHO should get the Lowepro TopLoader 50 or 55 along with the chest harness. You can checkout some YouTube videos to find the feasibility of these bags.

Here is my review of the Cramster Turtle which I have been using for quite some time now -
            Product: Cramster Turtle magnetic tankbag
Place of purchase: Cramster Store, Cunningham Road, Bangalore.
            Price: Rs. 1,800.
            Other options:
            1. Rynox Optimus M (Rs. 3,149)
            2. Dirtsack forester (Rs. 1,950)
            3. Scoyco MB09 (Rs. 1,799)
            4. Rjays Magnetic tankbag (Rs. 2,700)

About me: I am Tejas Pendurkar aka TeeJayy, currently residing in Bangalore. I own a R15V2.0 and am proud to be one of the eight founders of the Yamaha Riders ClubRationale behind my choice:

            Sales experience:

Usage experience:Overall build quality: Decent. Absolute VFM.
            Carrying capacity:
            1. Perfect up to 2 days for rider + pillion. (5 tshirts, 2 track pants, 2 shorts, socks, 1 towel, 2 pairs of inner wears, torch, first aid, swiss knife, 2 mobiles, 1 charger, 2 wallets, 2 plastic raincoats).
            2. There is an expansion zipper to be used whenever required. This keeps the bag size to its minimum when the luggage is less (city riding/ short rides).

            Utility and Convenience:
            1. st few times, becomes a habit later.
            2. There is a transparent map pocket which is very useful.
            3. Side pockets are handy for mobiles, wallets, etc.
            4. All the zippers have straps connected to them which makes it very easy to use them with gloves.
            5. When off the bike, it can be connected to a shoulder strap. Would have been better if it could be converted to a backpack.
            6. If riding solo, the bag can be used as a tailbag using bungee cords to tie it to the bike. It has 4 D rings, 2 on each side made especially for this.
            7. The quality of zippers could have been better.
            8. There is a rain cover in the bag. It is fluorescent in color which makes it easier for others to spot you in the rains. It covers MOST of the bag (when fully expanded) and repels water to a good extent. However, this cannot be a substitute for plastic covers for mobiles/ wallets and other electronic media.
            9. To me, a water proof pocket for mobiles and some cash, key chain holder, helmet holder, backpack convertibility, place at the side for a small water bottle are some more desirable features.

            Magnets:

            Conclusion:
            • It requires a little extra care to be taken to avoid scratches and paint fading but for the price at which it comes, this is the best you can get.
            • It is most suitable for using as a tankbag when touring with pillion and as a tailbag when riding single (since you can crouch then!).
            • Sales responsiveness (at least here in Bangalore) has to be way, way better. Such an attitude can go on only til you have no real competition in the same price range.

Yes it can hold all that is mentioned by you, only you need to pack it in the right manner, double folds of jeans and plant them right down the bag first and then mount the tee shirts above. In front there is no problem either, I have a black R15 so any scratches or paint fading can be seen, i dont want that, so I'm using it as a tail bag.

Backpack no, but yes they do give you a sling which is like one sided office bag.

I have used this in shit rains, pull up the cover and you are ready to go. Hope this helps.

Had been in the lookout for luggage system and was divided between the Rynox & Dirtsack. Before making final decision had the following points in mind for each

Rynox Tank BagPros - Good quality, Tank Bag could be converted to backpack. Big capacity, 21Lts, 29 ltrs with extension, Rain cover has see-through plastic
                          Cons

RMC Touring Bags | Facebookth Mar 2013. Picked the shipment from Post Office on 28th Mar 2013. Shipping charges paid by me was Rs 300, however the amount actually paid by Dirtsack was Rs 490.00 ( confirmed from Speedpost Reciept). Reason is cause I wanted to get the back earlier by they had some stock issue, hence they paid the xtra amount without me asking for it. Impressed.
I wanted to share my unboxing and primary review of the luggage system. Will let the Pics do most of the talking. You can compare the improvements over their earlier version here of LongRanger here

Similarly on the rear bottom. Also notice that both the rear pockets have strap for possible holding bottles. But with experience know that straps cannot hold bottle for long. With constant movement they will fall off

Wow...what a review, really helped a lot, was doing some research about tank bags. Within an economical range and this review really helped. Trying to decide between Forester and Turtle.

                              Rynox Tank Bag
Thanks for the review mate, I was reading the forester review, but coudn't understand the part where you mentioned about the clips for holding the bag in place on the tank, I mean aren't the magnets enough or is this also required ??
Also from the website I found that it's 16lts capacity and 18 when expanded.

                              Cheers

Thanks Krishna. A close friend, @AbhishekSircar has the forester so we had a chance to compare the two (forester and turtle) side by side. Both of us concluded that the Turtle is overall a better package. The turtle held onto the tank in a much more secure way than the forester. The only plus point in the forester is that the transparent pocket for maps, GPS devices is on the top which makes it more useful.
