• Re: Saddlebags

I'm planning to get D390. So to go with the bike, I'm planning to get following saddle bag and tank DSLR bag. Please let me know if any one has any experience with these bags and any drawbacks.

- Saddle bag only - https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=3&theater - How much does it cost? Is it rain proof? Any reviews in XBHP about this bag?
- RYNOX GEARS or Motorcycle Touring, ViaTerra Fly - Camera / DSLR Tankbag - Please suggest me one

I'll post photos of Rynox saddle bags and Duke tomorrow.
But I'd say to forget it, they're too big! Good quality though.
And Dirtsack is quite small, not a great quality...

I'm still stuck with my old Cramster saddle bags, and Rynox tank bag.

splus : plz post some photos of rynox tank bag on your duke. If possible both on tank and on rear seat.
I have a P200 NS and i want to purchase this rynox non magnetic tank bag but i have few doubts.

The bag may be too big for the tank of P200 NS both length wise and widthwise and may obstruct the movement of handle lock to lock.

Also i doubt if mounting it on rear seat the strap may be shorter than required.

If possible post a video as well.

Anybody using rynox on P200NS.

OK, here are some photos of Rynox tank bag on a Duke.
Every part of Duke is small, so if it can fit on a Duke then it can fit on any other bike (but don't take my word for it!). For P200NS specifically, I think it's not a problem at all. You might have only a small limitation in steering when the bag is full packed.

Note that the bag is in its expanded state in all the photos, but it's fully packed only in last 2 photos. You can easily see where the expanded line is, and when the bag is in its normal state it's very compact.

The capacity in non-expanded state is 21 liters, and in expanded 29 liters. Yes, it can store a lot of stuff!
The back side can be fixed with suction flaps, but Duke's front part of tank splits in two parts that are too apart for the front two suction flaps. But no worries, you can fix the front part of the bag with provided 2 straps (which are quite long, but adjustable), either use just one around the frame that's connected to the cone (as in the photo), or use two straps, hooked up on each side of the bag and fixed to each side of the crash guard.

I haven't tried to put it on the rear seat. Suction part can be unzipped, and the backpack straps can be pulled out if needed for extra straps.

OK, here are photos of Rynox saddle bag on a Duke.

When I saw them first time I was like "Wow! OK, this is too big!"
And when I brought them even close to my bike it was obvious - the bags are REALLY big. They may be appropriate for some bikes with big rear seats (Enfield or CBR250 might be suitable), but for a tiny Duke's rear it was a no go.

The photos don't really show it properly. These photos are taken after some fiddling, trying to adjust the bags to fit on the bike somehow.
The problem with the bags is that they are very rigid, hard. And so, you can't push it into the blinkers as I can do with my old Cramster, so the rear foot pegs are still free for a pillion.
The photos are taken with back part of the bag put slightly down, partly under the blinkers. Which I wouldn't suggest. But, even then you can see the bag goes quite a bit over the rear foot pegs. If you would put the bags normally (little higher) then you would have to push it even further towards the front, some 10-15 cm. And then the front strap would be sitting under the rider's ass, and the bags might even touch the rider's bum. Not comfy or convenient.

If you're single then you could probably manage to somehow adjust it.
But then, the fastening system with two big velcro straps isn't very reassuring. I get the idea that the two bags can be detached from each other and carried easily, and also adjust the width, the distance between two bags, but this flexibility also makes the whole system little filmsy. And to fix it all onto the bike becomes more difficult.
Added flexibility which, unfortunately, makes it less practical.

The bags have another good thing - they can be expanded horizontally for total capacity of some 64 liters. I haven't tried this because it was obvious the bags were by far too big for a Duke.

As I said, the photos don't really do a justice to the size of the bags - they are bigger than they appear in photos.

I also tried the Dirtsack saddle bags. No photos since there's plenty of photos od Disrsack saddle bags on internet.
They are simply too small, can't put much into them. And also, not of a very good quality, especially when compared to Rynox, which has fantastic quality (but a wrong form).
They also open from sides, so you can't open them when they're on a bike.

So, for now I'm stuck with my old Cramster saddle bags... They're OK, but nothing more than just OK. Not the best quality, but the form is so far the most suitable for a Duke.

@splus - thx for the photos. I guess, for now I have to settle with a tank bag as we don't have a quality saddle bag for a duke that can accommodate a pillion as well.. It look like that Rynox has better quality than Viaterra Fly. I also have a DSLR and one / two lens that I would like to carry along with me during rides. I think with enough padding like towels or clothes, you should be able to put your DSLR in Raynox as well.

One good thing with Viaterra fly is that it has dedicated straps and lens pouch to carry a dslr. But I think Fly is a little lesser in quality compared to Raynox.

Now which one do you guys think will suit my purpose?

About the saddle bags - I can use my old Cramster with a pillion. I described earlier in this thread - you just have to push them little backwards into the rear blinkers and it will be ok, a pillion will be able to out the feet on foot rests without problems.
You just have to keep the small rear inner top part of the bags slightly empty, so you can push them backwards. Just a small part, where you will push them into the blinkers. It's easy, totally not a problem.

But, as we all know, the quality of Cramster isn't anything to write home about. On the other hand, many of us have been using it for years (mine are 5 years old), and they're still ok.

About Rynox - man, that tank bag (and saddle as well) has a very good padding all around! OK, maybe not as thick a regular SLR bag (haven't seen Viaterra Fly), but quite good. Other bags don't come anywhere close.

Rynox tank bag, however, doesn't have any inner straps to fasten a camera. I always travel with my laptop, which I keep in its soft padded sleeve and in a plastic bag, just for extra security against it getting wet. And of course, it's always OK...
So, I don't see any reason not to wrap the camera in some cloth(es) or a towel, which you anyway always carry... If you don't have anything else in the bag then you might want to secure it somehow against moving around if you ride in bad roads, but if you're going to carry some other things which will fill up the bag then the camera won't be able to move around the bag anyway.

It's all about your needs - if you need a bag only and specially for a camera then it's probably a better idea to go for Viaterra. But then you don't have any tank space for another normal bigger tank bag...
Rynox tank bag will give you a good quality, lots of space for other stuff, a comfort of it easily being converted into a regular backpack. You can easily put the camera inside provided you wrap it up into something.
Actually, I just remembered that most travellers I've seen travelling around carry their DSLRs wrapped in a soft cloth. Special SLR bags are way too bulky to travel with if you have other stuff.

I'd say it's a simple choice:
If you don't have anything else to carry then a camera tank bag is the best solution.
If you have some more stuff to carry then go for Rynox or some other good quality tank bag.

Anybody here used the Dirtsack Waistpack or BikingSpirit Foxtrot 3 bag? Looking for a fairly water resistant waist pouch, decent quality material. The last time I had seen a Dirtsack product, I wasn't too impressed. However, I am told that they have improved since.

No, it's OK.
It almost touches the handlebar, or it JUST touches it, but not any of the switches. If it touches it, it's closer to the center part of the handlebar, the plastic just before the switches.
So, no worries...

The ViaTerra and Rynox bax are different in construction.

ViaTerra products can be categorized under "Soft Luggage" wheares Rynox products can be categorized under "Semi Hard" luggage. Therefore saying the quality of one is above or under the other is not accurate.

ViaTerra products are made In India, by Indians and specifically designed for Indian Bikes/models.
