Re: [UT]: Biking backpacks and Luggage Accessories.
I have a Cramster Stallion. Quality was okay for the time I bought it (circa 2008). I've seen better options on rides in the past couple of years. Cramster has not moved on with the times, if you ask me.Ride more, browse less.

Re: [UT]: Biking backpacks and Luggage Accessories.
The Cramster saddlebags (Stallion and the Colt) are the ones that started concept of saddle bags in India in 2003. Stallion for bikes with straight exhausts and Colt with upswept exhausts. The Cramster bags are simple to use / mount / tie on the bike. The bags also hold up pretty well.Originally posted by xtremevicky View PostYea. But unfortunately they have never upgraded / improved upon the 2003 design. In 2013, bikes have become sportier and now come with monoshocks. For these sporty bikes the Cramster designs are not perfectly suitable as the bags might cave in and touch the rear wheel. Also the attention to details and finishing on the Cramster is quite basic.
The ViaTerra Claw fits perfectly on the Pulsar 200NS. It was developed for modern sporty bikes like the Pulsar 200NS, 200 Duke, R15, CBR150R/250R, but has turned out to be a universal model and fits on all kinds of bikes with a pillion seat. A lot of thought has gone into the attention to details and finishing.
The only drawback of the Claw is that carrying a pillion is not possible after the Claw is mounted on the rear seat. Also the Claw is a bit too big for a short trip. Its 55-60 lts capacity is ideal for long trips. A lot of Claws have been to Ladakh on all kinds of bikes.
Think about your needs and then make your choice.

I'll hopefully be going to a shop in next few days to check out Rynox saddle bags for my Duke and I will then update. I will buy them only if I can use them with a pillion (the only potential problem is if the bags cover the pillion foot rests).
However, Rynox saddle bags are costly at Rs 4.5k, which, I suppose, doesn't fit your budget. They're of very high quality though and when expanded can store 64 liters.

payeng Thanks for the detailed post. I am leaning towards the Claw. That was very helpful.
splus I checked theRynox saddle bags on the website and they are a little out of the budget. I am not willing to invest 4K in them right now and Claw looks to be the frontrunner.
Thanks to both of you

Re: [UT]: Biking backpacks and Luggage Accessories.
I haven't checked out the Rynox saddlebags but from photos of it on bikes, they seem a bit overzised for Indian bikes. I have my doubts if a pillion would be comfortable if these bags are used. Would be great if somebody could test it with a pillion.Originally posted by splus View PostI have Cramster Colt and I agree fully with above posts. Nothing more to say about it.

The Rynox bags are constructed with a material called EVA laminated with the synthetic fabric, this makes the bag semi hard. Cramster, Dirtsack and ViaTerra are made of soft construction with no EVA.. this does not mean that they are lesser in quality or durability, just that one gets a Semi Hard shape with it EVA lamination.
Instead of the Rynox saddlebags bags, I think the saddlebags from Dirtsack (called Speedbags) will be more ergonomic (they have been made as per Indian bikes) for use with pillion. But then the Dirtsack bags open from the sides rather than from the top. This makes opening the bag while on the bike impossible.. also there is stress on the zips due to the side opening.
The Claw is right now out of stock and would be back in stock by around the 3rd week of August. However you can try "Lets Gear Up" (they are resellers of ViaTerra in Bangalore) and see if they have stock of Claw with them.Originally posted by xtremevicky View Postpayeng Thanks for the detailed post. Re: [UT]: Biking backpacks and Luggage Accessories.
I recently bought Rynox tank bag, and they look and feel very sturdy, as if they will last 100 years.Originally posted by payeng View PostI haven't checked out the Rynox saddlebags but from photos of it on bikes, they seem a bit overzised for Indian bikes. I don't know about EVA lamination, but the tank bag is made of much thicker material than for example Cramster tank bag. And additionally, it has inner soft padding all around the bag, which is a great thing for extra protection.
I haven't seen Rynox saddle bags in person, but I think its expanded size is because they expand in width, which shouldn't bother a pillion.
It all depends on a bike and position of pillion foot rests. Some bikes have more space, some less. Duke has a very short horizontal distance between rear signal lights and pillion foot rests, which might be too short to use Rynox saddle bags with pillion.

Cramster bags are constructed of nothing but synthetic fabric, not even foam between the synthetic fabric. But even then it is good enough for years or use.. for the record Cramster has been around for a decade now with thousand of users.Originally posted by splus View PostI recently bought Rynox tank bag, and they look and feel very sturdy, as if they will last 100 years.

Try dirtsack and ViaTerra. payeng should tell you everything abt the latterOriginally posted by siddharthmalik View PostYes please do inform if there are any pilion friendly saddlebags. Or if there are any such options available .
If none of these work, you can get them custom made from some gear shops who do them

True that about cramster, the bags work fine even when fully stuffed, but the material feels too thin, when compared to rynox, haven't had a chance to examine via terra in person,
but seriously it's high time cramster refresh the design of the bag rectifying its few flaws that it has, otherwise it will slowly lose its market share.
Cheers

I am seeing this kind of nets in many bikes now......Is it ok to buy it for carrying an extra helmet and back pack on tail section?"Vibes transmitted from crank shaft to frame, then through the bearings of the head stock and into the stem where it meets the triple clamp and into the clip-ons where it is greeted with great pleasure by my hands"-ratfighter mod rtr

Re: Saddlebags
Yes, I have bought one for 100 bucks, completely serves the purpose. Whenever I go to store/minor shopping, I dont need a backpack, everything is securely kept under the bungee net. (I dont like hanging plastic bags from handlebars!).Originally posted by albyjose View Postwww.OutdoorTravelGear.com - Motor Biking, Camping, Hiking, Urban Cycling, Climbing, Water Sports, Lifestyle

If the size is big enough, it can hold bags as well. And pillion can sit on the bungee net, they wont even feel it.
