now if synthetic oil is used in a new engine which has not run in properly with normal mineral oil lets say about 6000 to 10,000 kms minimum, the synthetic oil will create a seal so tight that the engine will not be able to run properly and will cause more damage than doing any good.

so please don't forget your engine's main part is the piston and cylinder and that's what is going to be affected. what you feel after using synthetic oil in a new engine like smoother gear, clutch, smooth feeling etc is due to the very property of the oil to protect metal to metal contact to the max, at the same time creating a very tight seal on the piston/cylinder there by proper bedding in of the engine is affected.

please think twice before you rush for that oil change esp for your new bike.
now you are freaking me out. My bike has completed just 4000kms & i have used agip fully synthetic. Now what should i do?? The oil has run nearly 2000kms. Currently my odo is reading 5500kms.

I'm moving to Motul SS next time. Guys having used both, say its better than Yamalube SS.
Can't wait to switch to Motul, but thats after I have done some mile muching with the Yamalube.
I'm thinking of using motul 5100 v in my next service myself......it's 15w40 grade right?....I too am fed up of the yamalube SS....I mean SS oils are supposed to last around 2.5-3k kms right? My shifts have become hard after just 1.9k kms......

Now since you have shifted to FS, going back to SS or mineral wont do you any major good. My advice would be to stick with FS from now on.
A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

      • An Engine acquits itself in the first 500-700 kms.

        10,000 is way too far.

        • I switched to SS at 2600 kms though but i dont think using SS or FS after 1000 kms would cause problem/s....

          • Fully synthetic Engine oil for Yamaha Fazer

            Hi all...

i wanted to know if Motul 300V can be used for yamaha fazer....the manual says that the engine oil that can used are 20W40 and 20 W50...going thru the current threads on engine oils i found that motul 300v can be used as it is 15w50....but i wanted to know if any1 has really tried it on a fazer....actually i am posting this thread on behalf of a friend who wanted a suggestion with engine oil and i wanted to be 100% sure that i am giving him the correct advice!!!!

however i own a unicorn 2007 model...the one with alloy wheels...the recommended oil is 20w40...i use castrol power one racing (10w40)....and it runs silky smooth....can this b tried with fazer as well???

i am really sorry if its a repost....please give the link to any existing thread (if any)....

            thanks in advance..

don't worry. theory is one thing but what has been written about using synth oil is also true. but you have already covered 4000 kms i should say out of the danger zone. continue the synth oil itself. if possible avoid full throttle runs for extended periods.

i had gone thru a ideal break in procedure for an engine . it will drive us nuts even while reading.

its just you should be aware of the theory part. it may help.

i expected some reactions explaining with reasons what i have stated is wrong. i too wish i am wrong on this one.

                    • Query reg Motul SS

I ride an R15, & recently bought the Motul 5100 Semi-synth oil, MRP being Rs. 450.
The grade is 15W50, while the one recommended as per manual is 20W40.

I read somewhere that you get Motul 5100v which is 15W40, & 5100T whose grade I'm not aware of (any idea of this), both bein semi-synth oils.

Can I safely use the 15W50, or should I strictly go for the 15W40?
                      Any fellow R15ers who've used the 15W50?

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

If you ride hard rip her all the time go for 15w50 or otherwise go for 15w40 if you ride normal with occasionally boosting to 100-130...

I am not a R15er but the 15w50 can be used without any problem in R15. Even the yamaha SC guys use the same grade oils. AFAIK The 20W40 grading was written in initial batch R15's manuals & it was later corrected to 15W50 in the other batches.

                            Thats ok.
I know about the grade spec correction in the manual bit. Was concerned coz it mentions 15W40/20W40, while I was planning to put in a 15W50 oil.
                            Thanks!

                            • I want to get a good 20W 50 or 15W 50 oil for my P180. Preferably mineral or semi-synth. What would you recommend, and where can I find it in Pune? Preferably in the Pune University area.

Sorry if this question has already been asked before in this thread. But I wasn't able to find places near where I stay.
