And please suggest me which oil to change for. Everyone is recommending power 1 castrol but I want to go with motul. Here the mechanics have not even heard the name of motul
    1. since u have changed ur oil at around 550 kms on odo, u can use the current oil till 2000-2500. i recommend to change it around 2200 kms on odo.

    2. dont switch to any other brand just yet. since ur bike is new, continue to use mineral oil (even bajaj oil will do). but dont forget to change btw every 1700-2000 kms.

    3. switch to semi synth oil only after ur bike clocks more than 4000 kms
and then after 7000-7500 kms u can switch to fully synth oil.

    4. castrol power 1 is not recommended for p220. p220 needs 20W50 grade oil, power 1 is xxW40.

    5. castrol has only one oil in 20W50 grade i.e. CASTROL ACTIVE EXTRA 4T

choose ur engine oil wisely.... follow run in speeds..... happy riding

I found out one motul distributor near Sakinaka, Andheri.
I went there & got very good discount. I bought Motul Chain Lube for Rs.400/- (MRP Rs.480/-). Also got 5100 15W50 engine oil for Rs.400/- (MRP Rs.450/-). I am giving directions to get there as I dont have the exact postal address.

      Avinash Enterprises
      Saki Vihar Road.
Going from Saki Naka towards L & T, leave first right & take sacond right where steep upword sloping narrow road starts. after climbing up for a while you will find "Arihant Industrial Estate". Go in, ask for "GALA No. 34". That is the godown of Motul.

      ....
Is this the location? See google map below. I have magnified the "Arihant Industrial Estate" in red circle. Note: Arihant Industrial Estate will not be visible in google map until it is magnified to almost max.

If this is the right address, Will be visiting soon .

      • i have a hero honda hunk which is around 4k km old. i recently changed my engine oil, the user manual though recommends hero honda's own 10w30 oil but i've filled in Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20W-40 grade oil, i haven't rode my bike much since then, the engine feels smooth, firing and exhaust notes also seem a bit improved, but i still have a doubt with the oil, cuz it wasn't recommended by the manufacturers!

will it have any adverse effect on my bike????

Dude Castrol GTX is 20W50 as well but I am not sure if you can use it in a 4 stroke engine. I have an RX100 my motorcycle is running on this oil, runs like a dream.

i was speaking of only bike oils. castrol gtx is for cars. dont use it in bikes.
as far as rx100 goes pls check whether it has wet / immersed clutch. if yes castrol gtx is not recommended.

now, i have confirmed on net that rx100 also has wet clutch.

only use oil with recommended grade by manufacturer. but u can use any other brand. since u have not used ur bike too much, it is recommended to change ur oil ASAP. i see no need to panic, provided u change the oil immidiately.

as far as oil grade matters, remember few things. there are two numbers mentioned in the grade i.e. 'xx' W 'xx'.
in this case first number is 10. so, u can use any oil having first number from 0 to 10. that means dont use oil where first number is greater than recommended.
then comes the second number. in ur case second number is 30. so, u have to use oil having second number is exact 30. that means use only those oils where second number matches exactly with the recommended grade.
so, in this perticular case u can use oils having grade from 0W30 to 10W30

Will change the oil at 2000kms. Again should I pour Bajaj 10000 or CASTROL ACTIVE EXTRA 4T or motul 3000?

Besides, I ripped the bike a little bit and engine become much smoother. is this normal?

i think u should wait till 2300-2500 kms. bajaj oil can run that much. u can switch to semi synth oil after that. u can use motul 5100. thats what i am using. am happy with it. though it is a bit overpriced. if motul is not available, go for castrol.

avoid ripping. i understand its very tempting . but just a little bit of ripping will do no harm. rather, while in run in period, a few bursts (and i mean a few) to 80-85 kmph are recommended by experts. but while doing these small speed bursts dont slow down immidiately by applying brakes. let bike slow down itself. let the engine break in.
                      dont worry happy riding

@rakzza: No call for panic. One grade thicker (from 30 to 40) is okay. In fact it is better to change oil grade depending on climate condition. During hot summer days, w40 is better, and during cold winter, w30 is good. This is practiced universally for optimum performance.

I prefer and use w40 on my Zma-R as it is smoother for my engine though recommended grade is w30. In fact, now weather has become pretty cold, especially early in the morning, the bike is smoother than ever because oil is thicker when cold. During hot summer days, even w40 seems to get pretty thin making engine harsh.

though i dont agree with u completely, yes its true that people do use different grades of oil for different weather.

but using thicker oil is also not recommended as it affects the smooth operation of an engine. due to thick oil it takes more efforts for engine parts to move about. where as thiner oil than recommended will be even more harmful as there will be more metal to metal contact.

the other point is while using any other grade oil than recommended will void the warranty (if one gets caught). so, why take chances & carry the head ache of changing the oil as per changing weather

pls correct me if i m wrong.

                          • 2 months only I got my bike engine oil changed at SHELL, they changed the engine oil in front of me and the oil was looking clear color thru the peephole in my HH Super Splendor, But during the recent service 2 days ago the Service Centre person told that engine oil is black and not upto the level and recommended for a oil change and not top up. Had to do oil change.

Which engine oil is suitable for HH Super Splendor, the service centre guy told they use the same oil for CD Dawn and Karizma, so its the best oil, but what do members have to say regarding this?

AFAIK, bike clutches are wet clutches. only JASO MA approved oils are compatible with wet clutches. car oils are not JASO MA. so using car oils will damage the clutch plates or the clutch plates will be worn out too soon. though this is the most commonly known factor. dont know if there are many.......

as i forgor to mention in my previous post, "pls correct me if i m wrong"........
