Why are they charging more, if more or less they are similar to LS2? Cousins? Same origin-different residence?

    • It varies mate, both products are different, they are not the same, the design for instance, its totally different, considering the vents and air flow difference the shell used is obviously different , then comes the padding material/quality, visor quality, paint quality, Test standards and what not.

And coming to the marketing part, import costs from different countries, profit margin and goes on.

And from the reviews, its way better than LS2 in feel and comfort, except a few have complained of wind noise in high speeds, but then LS2 isn't great in wind noise department after 80kmph.

I would say the source country is not relevent here be it LS2 or SOL. Get the genuine stuff, the rest will be taken care of by the helmet. In saving your life and making you look Kool , be it LS2 or SOL.

Lets set the record straight. SOL has nothing to do with MHR Helmets who are the manufacturer of LS2, Cross, Daijya, Nuvo, Sparx, Rjays and even some models of Vega!

SOL is owned, operated and managed by a completely different company, which manufactures to the DOT standard followed in the US from their manufacturing facility in Taiwan. VJ's comment is misleading though meant in fun.

The question perhaps that you should be asking is why the MHR brands range from Rs.2500 - Rs.7500, when made by the same company, using similar materials and shells and with just different branding and labelling.

So you pay twice or even thrice the amount simply because of branding?

+1 to that MHR part. I just wanted to you to comment on that part Obviously you're the right guy to answer regarding SOL's part, as I just know from your previous comments, it's Made in Taiwan

And regarding the MHR price tag, aboslutely true, as I said in my previous statement, different brand, brand promotion, brand induced pricing for the same helmet manufactured in China or elsewhere.

          Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
          The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

          THE END

            • I'm planning to get a SOL dragon or wizard, or one of the SOLs that cost something around 4500-5000 for daily use and touring. How good is the helmet in-city? Anybody has a long term review after daily use?

                • Hey Urbannomad,
If light weight is primary factor. DSG have their inhouse brand Daija. They have a carbon series which is abt 11000 if i remember correctly.
Otherwise given your budget restrictions take a look at Nexx, fm Spartan Progear. will pm you more details.
                  Cheers

I bought an SOL Metal Man (Orange/Black) a few weeks back to go with my KTM. I was a bit apprehensive about wearing a full-face helmet as I have never worn one before, besides I wear glasses. I can't give you a long-term review for obvioius reasons. I wore it for the first time last weekend when I took a ride to my sister's, it involved a bit of city riding and a some highway riding. Being a weekend and considering the ride was in the morning there wasn't a whole lot of traffic. Anyway all my apprehsions were proven to be out of place as there was plenty of air coming through the intake vents and going out through the extactor vents. I think there are some 16-18 vents altogether incorporated into the helmet. If that isn't enough one can always crack open the visor a notch or two. The optically corrected visor is a pleasure to have on and it gives you good peripheral vision also. The helmet seems to be of excellent quality and good finish and as you know it is DOT approved and reasonably priced. Since then I have used it several times and find the helmet a pleasure to wear. Since I ususally don't ride in heavy city traffic, I can not comment on how it will perform in such situations, perhaps some one with experience in this regard would come to your rescue. For touring this helmet should stand you in good stead is what I think. Good luck with whatever you decide.

This is what I am talking about.

Buddy thats a real nice looking helmet. Nice to hear about the ventilation and Visor quality.

Do post more info about KTM-Metal Man adventures as time progresses.

After LS2 season, its raining SOLs here.
