  • Hi Everyone,

I bought this helmet from Probiker Pune today for 3k

It has good padding, felt like a really snug fit and while riding, the noise isolation was also pretty good. There are openable vents in the front as well as the top of the helmet. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with this. Any questions or comments are welcome!

Its nothing to do with the weight of the helmet. A genuine DOT or ECE helmet will need to pass the impact penetration test for certification, which means that the shell has to have a certain thickness and by default a certain weight of between 1400 to 1800 gms. That is why most genuine certified helmets will fall in this weight class - unless they are made of specialty materials like carbon fibre/Kevlar/composites. Such helmets because of their unique construction are also very expensive. Incidentally, the lightest certified full face helmet in the world as per the list below, the NeXX XR1R is also sold in India - I have one.

You are used to using helmets that do not meet these certification standards and are therefore lighter. You will obviously feel that the genuine certified ones are heavier. Incidentally, I have an LS2 purchased from Germany two years ago. Let me assure you that it is a totally different item from the so-called "certified" models sold here, many of which I suspect are fake.

You are right on the weight part. WebBike has reviewed numerous helmets and has even rated some third party helmets as the best when it comes to impact protection many a times. That being said, I'd love to see your LS2 from Germany, though I absolutely and have just quoted a reminiscent a few pages back about the same, that almost definitely 40% of them are fake, at least even more in my opinion. Please do post the snaps of it, if you still have it.

And regarding model, it is FF350 indeed, but the graphic is different from Phobia, as they have completely different liveries red, yellow, grey, black matte black etc, but you can expect anything in LS2

        Cheers!

I'm not sure what my helmet's model number is or what the air go system means :P Would anyone please enlighten me? It does have a few vents around though.

Air go system has a small pump through which you can inflate the cheek pads to your comfort, just like in reebok pump shoes.

All these air-go, air on, air pump etc are all fancy terms for a small air pump which compress the cheek pads against your cheek to give you a snug fit irrespective of the face.

Out of stock or perhaps are revamping their website after stock arrives etc, one can only speculate. But it's best left to them. Why don't you shoot a mail to them for the same.

as far as i know ls2 is made up of hptt material which is quite strong,if the ones selling in India are fake how come they have the sharp safety standard?

                    • OK, so for people who believe and who are thinking the "Motocross" Style helmet suits for daily commutes and all. Have a look at this pic. It's self explanatory. Mind you this is impact in gravel, so just do some thinking how it will be when it on the tarmac at much greater speeds.

Why motocross helmet can't be used for daily commutes??
Seriously, is there any disadvantage for a motocross helmet. I thought it gives good protection as its a full face helmet.

If you see the picture in motocross the impacts are on mostly gravel or loos soil and low speed impacts. But in tarmac it's not the same. And more over in the pic it's good quality helmet and still this injury. Don't think any one would want such road rash on heor face like this and with the cheap knockoff stuff under brand name vega will give not even this protection.

So i guess my point is clear here.

It does. I always consider them as plastic bucket. Any rider you take, an experienced rider, except wannbes, no one would wear an off road helmet for street use. Now it doesn't mean one "shouldn't" wear them at all for road use, for occasional purposes yes, but full-fledged, definitely not.

                            Here's why.

                            1. Dirt helmets are completely different from street helmets, design wise
                            2. In Dirt Racing, you don't speed as much, so considerably the helmet is thinner and lighter.
                            3. Dirt Racing is demanding in humid conditions where you need lot of ventilation to keep the rider's head cool, so no visors, except goggles. Why goggles? Will come to that in a sec
                            4. Dirt helmets are pathetic in rains, due to the wide open front, you get every single drop that come from above. A goggle would save your eyes, but still your nose, lips etc won't appreciate you for your decision.
                            5. Using visor in a dirt helmet, only makes it worse for the rider, no ventilation, the visor gets scratched from the demanding conditions, number three, crash. So now you know why they don't use full fledged visors, except googles, they are cheap and replaceable, just to protect the riders eyes, as they are much better off from getting scratch than a wide area of glass covering your front.
                            6. Dirt helmets offer little to no protection when it comes to asphalt speeds, when you crash head on, chances are 90% you get your face rammed or even death.
                            7. Importantly, dirt helmets have replaceable parts, due in which they get damaged frequently, so they are lighter and considerably. cheaper.

Now full face is completely different.

                            1. You have a full face shell for solid protection, most importantly high speed crash. Way better than a dirt helmet
                            2. You have visor, to protect your face from, dust, grime, bugs etc.
                            3. You have ventilation scoops over and above unlike the very design of the former which can be very helpful in humid conditions
                            4. Significantly costlier
                            5. Peace of mind.

How long does it take to fake a sticker if they can make a helmet. That being said, not everything is fake, but definitely fakes are all around, in large numbers
