@Prince: Dude this post regarding ISI that you posted, is correct. I completely agree with you in this regards. While I use LS2, and given an option between ISI and SNELL, I would buy a SNELL, that is because I am able to afford it. However, for those folks who cannot spend more than a 1000 bucks on Helmet, Genuine ISI marked helmets are a very good and safe option. When I say Genuine I dont mean the one's that you get on the road side. I pity those folks who buy helmets from them.

You will have counterfeits for everything under the sun, however, genuine ISI marked products from reputed manufacturers are safe and good.

Not everything in India is bad, there are some institutions that have built up good reputation.

The hardest to accept is a difference of opinion and this difficulty attains 'beyond superlative' proportions given the volumes and promptness of communication possible through the internet now. Group discussions also suffer from a 'critical mass' phenomenon - that beyond a certain number of participants the discussion teeters towards a slugfest at the slightest indication of a majority-minority split. In shorter and simpler words (now that I hopefully have weighed you people down under some heavy 'legal' language), please do not draw virtual daggers at virtual provocation. Don't go so personal over a few pixels on the screen. Smile and make way.

Coming back to topic, the standards have existed in India since for long as are the mandatory sampling implementation methods for the industry. As niranjanvaidya has shared a link here, below are some more for those curious enough to take a detailed look at what helmet standards mean to our country's safety standards.

This link is aout the conformity standards for safety helmets to be manufactured or sold in India.

This one below is about the Sampling Standards that our manufacturers are supposed to follow to attain and retain BIS certification:

The one below here is a regional link put up by Chandigarh Police but gives a list of BIS approved brands/manufacturers for two wheeler helmets in India

And this last one below gives a visual on what the tests demanded by BIS are like:
              Welcome to Spark

True that this comes from a private manufacturer's website but this is just to learn about the actual testing procedures.

So after going through couple of pages.

                summery :

                1. All genuine Indian helmet manufactures are complying with Govt standards
                2. Its safe to buy Indian ISI original helmets
                3. Imported Helmets of many brands are not certified with Indian standards but without certification still they meet or exceed safety standards set here.
                4. There are misuses of ISI marks on many fake helmets
                5. There is no way to identify the fake imported helmets with originals .
                6. back to point number 1

conclusion [me] : - go to market , personally check helmet and quality and buy in-around your budget.

@oldFox sir ji thanks for sharing link, very informative . never knew companies like Spark will also carry such tests

Guys, please chill down. Xbhp stands for Safety, and its each person's choice as to what he believes in.

My opinion is that ISI mark is no guarantee of top quality. My Vega helmet is living proof of it. Such low quality helmet it is. Sunvisor broke, modular cord broke, and its visor is full of scratches now!!

Studds proved to be life saver for me. And yes, Nuvo, Arai, Shoei, etc. are better than our Indian helmets anyday. Even they have cheaper and costlier models with different materials used though. And a genuine ISI mark only guarantees that the shell is upto a certain standard, not mentioning anything about comfort, the jaw area's durability, etc.

Anyways, let me tell you about a helmet I just bought. I got it for Rs. 2200. Its a Steelbird, sponsor-marked by MTV Roadies. Couldn't get anything better in Ajmer.

Its modular, it has a sun visor. It feels very good, fits tightly enough to be comfortable too. I won't use its modular system much, unless its required, because I wouldn't want it to get loose. Most Indian helmets have this problem.

And, It was the only 580mm size modular+sun specs helmet available in the store. (The same model was also available in full black color, costing Rs. 1800. Functionally the exact same but its size was 600mm, loose for me.)

Guys, I couldn't spot this model even on company's website. Which model is this? Have I paid the right amount for this (Rs. 2200)?

Ok, now for some jugaad !
If road-side helmets can get a ISI certified sticker for their helmets, I am planning to do the same for my LS2, just in case a cop decides to harass me ! :P

That's a cool helmet mate, like the graphics and the color.
My friend has a similar Blue and white helmet which he had bought for 2100/-.
Is your helmet heavy? My friend's helmet was pretty heavy though!

Yes, it definitely feels heavy at --- kgs or so. No worries though.

EDIT: metaphoric.el: It weighs 1.5 kgs, not 1.25.

                              Hi Guys,

I have been following this thread for sometime and have decided to invest in a good helmet. Any pointers on where to buy a good Helmet in Hyderabad?

I see that a lot of people are opting of SOL and it seems to be of good quality, not sure if I can get it locally here in Hyderabad, any shop that stock SOL in Hyderabad?

People who have bought SOL on-line, how was the experience and did you have any issues with the size?

Recently visited Adventureontherocks.com, but seems like they are robbing people in daylight, I was quoted 4200 for an LS2, when I can see that ebay has them for 3500 or less. Plus the helmets in the store did not have any ECE sticker or any other certification and the text on the visor was all in Chinese. Really no t sure if they are the Original LS2s.

                              Would appreciate any help!
                              Keep Calm and Continue Riding!

No ECE sticker is a concern and yes LS2 is Chinese.

About the ECE sticker: I think you will get better replies from seniors.

About the cost: you have to specify which model you saw in the store and which model you saw in ebay. As they have different ranges of products the costs vary too. I have heard that adventureontherocks sells genuine stuff only. You cannot say the same about the stuff sold on ebay. You may try SPG or PlanetDSG too. SPG will have more affordable helmets than PlanetDSG, I believe.

Again, from the discussion going on in this forum for some time I infer that you may want to go for a helmet with ISI marking on it. That is if you live someplace where Police will be checking for the 'quality' seal on helmets.
