FYI - the proper fit of the helmet is ascertained by the circumference of your crown .i.e. the circumference of your skull that is measured just above the eyebrows. This is the primary fit that determines how snug the helmet is for your head, in order to be able to properly absorb the impact forces acting on your brain. The secondary fit is the comfort fit, of your cheekpads, which allow you to upsize or downsize depending on how fat in the jowl you are.

This little known fact is often mis-represented by dealers who prefer to stock only size L in order to control inventory and hoodwink gullible customers with a "snug" fit around the cheeks, as if you were trying to protect your cheeks!

The above is the correct way to size your helmet, the rest is bakwaas ( to borrow a phrase from a friend! )

SOL is introducing a new full faced model for women in about a month. Priced around Rs.3500/-.

It is for my sister who is getting a Honda Dio today & is against full-face helmets (says it looks bikerish , you know girls) I scolded her and explained the importance of good helmet, educated her on the benefits. After all the gana-bajana, I still feel that she's going to buy a small half-face girly helmet - after all look matters and it is difficult to convince after some point. So I am planning to buy one and give it to her the next time 'am home. I just want her to be safe , considering the fact that she is still in the early part of the learning phase of How to Ride!!

        Thanks in advance!
If I were in your place, I would buy a women sized white full face helmet with zero graphics, get it sprinkled with pink sprays and then put a few "power-puff girls, mini mouse etc stickers around it" before gifting it to my sisy

Of all people who were kind enough to help you, let me add just my two cents worth. First off, let me tell all girls are the same man! Phew! And the ones in my family doesn't even like a helmet, and so they never ride, they always drive.

But when my cousin wear my helmets, just from personal experience, the moment they wear my helmet, they go "Jesus, what a huge helmet and how heavy is this, I can't even breathe, how in the world are you wearing such a huge helmet.

They hate heavy helmets. They want their hair, they want their make up intact that's one psychological reasoning. It's not about spending 7k worth of helmet for your sister or anyone special, but what makes them comfortable. Trust me, most girls out there are more than happy with Vega and Studds half face helmet and full face helmet and for the speeds they do, wearing a helmet is more than suffice, and from reputed brands such as Studds and Vega you can be rest assured than those plastic mugs sold on the roadside.

Let them wear the helmet, each person is different, and see what they are comfortable with, of course after the color thingy etc and then go for it. Just because one is ready to spend 7k and after purchasing them, trust me there is more than 95% chance of she being not comfortable with it.

Go for reputed brands locally such as Studds, Vega they have a wide variety of lids for both women and men, check it on her, how she feels and what she likes and then go for it. But make sure you brainwash her to go for a full face the max.

          Cheers!

VJ sir jee, I beg to disagree with the above part (only). Agree with the rest. My sis used to ride a 65cc Kinetic Zing. It could do speeds upto 60 kmph easily. I gifted her a 900 rupees full face Studds way back in 2006, but as usual she hated it. She shouted and cried and managed to get it replaced with another Studds that was a half face helmet for about the same price.
October 2006 -> front wheel lock, scooty skids during heavy breaking in rain and all we know later that my sis has her jaw broken as well a 1 inch wound on the back of her head.
The helmet was strapped, but it simply fell off on impact. She for sure was doing max speeds on her scooty no doubt, but half face helmets are NOT SAFE!
She had to undergo facial surgery for that broken jaw and had 4 stitches on the back of her head. I have never in life felt so scared thinking I might have just lost her because she regained consciousness only the next day.

P.S - girls don't ride slow. I had a pissed off girl on her activa dangerously overtake me 4-5 times after the ISG2G pre ride near Hosur. I was doing speeds over 50 all the time. A fall at that speed needs a good quality full face helmet.
            Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Crunch! Boy that must have hurt her real bad. I didn't recommend using half face, bud. As a thumb rule, most women prefer half face and that's why I've highlighted the point. And in the end, it's upto us to brainwash or coax them into getting a full face.

P.S. Just for gags: Yes women do ride fast. And please don't piss off a girl who's wearing a half face helmet.

Girls don't ride slow.. This is a fact..
i don't have a sis so can't say how to convince her.. Best is to make her read the important points and if possible, show some pics which show how badly a peron can get hurt without a proper helmet.. It would give her a couple of sleepless nights, but hopefully would try to avoid such situation..

                Ride safe and have fun.

                  Chaos,
Try a Lil more harder to convince "more" to your sis about full face. Half face helmets are not really helmets, people in India wear it only, so that the cops don't catch them.
A face is very important for a girl and half face do not provide any protection to face, even if one falls at 10kmph !
Don't directly buy a helmet and gift it to her, take her to the helmet store and ask her to pick one (full face). Girls only care about the colors, so let her decide which one she wants!

Had the same issue with my sis, and after a lot of explanation and gyan talk, regarding half face vs full face helmets, she finally agreed to go for full face..

I took her to the store, and asked her to pick one and she picked the white-pink colored Vega Corah.. Again, all they care about, are colors!!! :| Though she hardly rides the Wego, even if she does, she wouldn't cross 40kmph.

Well, You can check out Vega Corah, it does have a good build, small size and does come in girly colors too.

I don't know about the other places, but in Chandigarh, girls hate helmets.
99% of girls ride scooty/ activa with full face "dupattas (piece of clot wrapped around the whole face)".

And they don't drive slow. Not at all.

You try your best to convince her for a full face helmet.

Try to give her points like if she wears a full face helmet, she need not worry about tanning at all. It will save her face in accidents, etc.

Be creative. Make her do it.!

I have a point to drop at this stage of thread discussion: Even if a girly scooty is not a fast machine that doesn't renders it free from the fact that the oncoming vehicle will come slow too. Further more if I put up a simple relative velocity maths (say RVM) here for a virtual scene, let's say two sccoties or anything are running at 60 kmph and accidentally came head-on during which their speeds were reduced to somewhere near 40 kmph then as per RVM velocity of impact for both the persons turn out to be 40+40 = 80 kmph and that's bloody good speed. So, please don't count a scooty collision to be a slower one

I apologize if I have missed anyone

Let me tell you the situation in my place - Guys ride insanely mostly with gears like a cap & goggles, it's all about impressing you know!! Girls those who have two wheelers are stars among their peer group, even though they do not ride that fast, there will always be some biker types lingering around the star... I know my sister is gentle & very scared of me even though there will be emotional outburst at times. We discuss personal things with a serious face but I still care for her (hope you get the kind of relationship between us). As of now I have already given her some gyan, the xBhp way!! & deposited some money for a helmet. Since SOL, LS2, Airoh etc. are unavailable there, I am sure she's gonna go for half-faced ones. But still, have asked her to buy a good Studds with ISI. I'll carry the SOL in my visit. Till then lectures will continue to brainwash her Cheers, ride safe!!
