• Re: Helmets

Got the Kranos Imola Future Matt (Orange) today. I bought the M size, provides a snug fit. Although it is M, it is quite big.. much bigger than the display image. I think sweating might be an issue, with the weather in Madurai is getting worse day by day. Have to wear a head wear/bandana/kerchief to absorb the sweat, I guess. Will try to post a detailed review soon.

Regarding the place to visit, I think you can take a look at a place called Moto 101, opposite to MTR Hotel on Lalbagh Road and also you can check out Let's Gear Up at HSR Layout, both these places have all the riding gears under one roof reasonably priced and good quality.

Only reason is because there are lot of Fakes in the market and LS2, I find personally is purchased by everyone.
Secondly If your budget permits go with SOL and MT brand of helmets, even Kranos is good.

Finding a flat spot/chin mount on a helmet is comparatively a hard proposition. Usually all helmets have a taper in front as the shell itself goes sideways to the cheeks and being a blunt front end helmet isn't going to help around aerodynamics either. Think of it is a blunt front end airplane trying to fly, just so you get the idea. You can either adjust the adhesive end slightly off chin either, left nor right so that you have solid adhesion. The position is not going to cause a massive difference in camera angle anyway.

Cheers!

Hello B7ACKTHORN

I am not deep pocketed .

My previous helmet was a MT Blade Race Line Series SPDX ONE. I was told that the size was M and I did not cross check. Using it for a week gave me neck ache and no visibility on my side. The helmet would shake really really bad when cross winds hit me. I sold it to a friend of mine who wanted to get a helmet and mine was in pristine condition.

I have learnt a lesson to cross check and to not to go blindly by what the shop keeper says.

Over the weekend, I visited 3-4 shops tried different brands and was not convinced with anything other than the MT Blade series. MT Blade was the one which I felt very comfortable wearing. The padding is ready good for someone wearing spectacles. Wearing size M i was able to look over my shoulder with good field of view. MT Geo Axis was giving me pain on my ear and LS2 were fakes (the shop keeper himself told me this).

I settled down for the below but this time with my size M.

Relax, Shank, it was just a queer remark. What I'd like to know is has your chin mount issue resolved, considering that was the point of the topic. This one, as I reiterated earlier, has even more taper than the AXXIS series. But hopeful the choice you made is the right choice.

Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

THE END

I did not take your comment otherwise. Tones are not felt via messages :-)

I have tried to chin mount on the MT Blade before selling my previous helmet. As I could comfortably mount it on a pointed surface, I went ahead with the Blade series.

As you stated, the AXIS has a much flatter chin surface.

I will be posting a DIY soon.

Once again, I did not take your comment otherwise.

Cheers

Its better to stick to the proper full-face ones as they will be more sturdier than a modular one, besides I am not a fan of them too, so can't say which one to pick, though I had seen a modular one in MT itself, don't know whether its available now, you can check it out at the stores I mentioned.

As long as we are all talking of helmets. anyone here tried a DIY to :-

1. scrape the old paint off the helmet and give it a new one, perhaps with some custom paint job and the shiny surface coat.?
2. DIY to just restore the shiny surface of an existing custom paint helmet.?
3. DIY to restore/change internal padding/lining of helmets?

Saturday went to Lalbhag road for checking helmets, and checked many helmets below is my personal opinion.

1. SOL 68s and SF-1 + one more model with dual visor [forgot model] := padding is excellent and outer shell is Great the 68s is lighter a bit but other models are heavy , price quoted was 6300/- to 6750/-

2. MT Kranos := looks cheap and padding was not looked premium

3. MT Axxis/MT Blade = both are lightest in weight compared to other model/brand and good padding , price quoted was from 4700/- to 5975/-

4. THH helmet = it has dual visor , worst of all , padding is very cheap and even Vega Axor is much better padding , price = 4160

5. Studds shifter = Good helmet with dual visor , DOT certified with decent padding and good build , price = 2900/-

6. vega AXOR = good padding and good quality outershell , looks premium for the price , price = 2500/-

7. AXR helmet = Very good internal padding and outershell , lot of graphics options, equivalent to LS2 range , price 3500/-

conclusion : = if want dual visor with light weight then MT Blade series which is retailing for 5975/- best buy, IF wants single visor with best padding and comfort AXR is the good purchase for 3500/- which is much better than LS2 series , MT Kranos and similar range one

Note: Prices are approximate

Yeah that was quoted ₹ 2100 to me also when i enquired about it.
2900 is way too pricy

Did you check them all at one shop or different ones, I guess the MT helmets must be at Moto 101 if I am not wrong or Megha Enterprises

Thanks. I agree, but I can live with slightly bad build quality and padding both. I have lived with ISI's all my life... Any helmet is better than them.

My point was, in terms of my priorities (wind/ UV/ Medium size availability), how do you rate them. MT Blade is hardly available in Medium on Spartan ProGear website.
Even if its available, its in some color combination I would be embarrassed seen with.
Samarth619 Wind/UV/Size availabilty wise too I will rate MT higher. It is tiny bit more silent, I was able to find S size (my girl wears it most of the time) and the Visor quality is good. I will post pics for you over the weekend if you like .
