Mainly coz they leave their trade mark leather aroma on your hands. Also I presume they aren't that appealing visually (Appearance is not a priority against safety but still ).

I pressume that you haven't tried a good pair of motorcycle leather gloves. A modern motorcycle leather gloves uses a variety of leather types like synthetic, cow & goat skin that usually don't leave any scent unless wet but that would go away when it dries again. Leather is best for abrasion protection thats why motogp racers use it in their tracksuits while textile may not hold that good. As for visual appeal, some of these gloves like rynox rampage luks awesome

Leather is the best for abrasion. But in low speed slides textile should suffice enough (for jackets) , for gloves, if protection is of upteem importance, get a leather gloves.

And like aditya said, there are other gloves with good looks , but while choosing gears, looks should be the last option to consider. It is functionality over style.

Well, without seeing those premium A* gloves, i can't comment much but it's possible that they may also be made from leather or similarly strong material.

Bharath, the good protection gloves from A* that come close to the protection provided by the high end leather gloves by SPG/Rjays/DSG /Rynox cost a min of 6499 (A* Apex gloves) the SMX2 and Scheme Kevlar gloves by A* are good too but in all honesty at a price of 3.5k they don't provide as much abrasion resistance as their full leather counterparts.

What I am trying to say is A* is definitely good but it comes with a high premium. I suggest you try these full leather gloves by other brands once and then make your decision. Let me know if you need I will come along with you to the store too

Hi all,

It has taken me more than a month to go through this entire thread.

Anyone looking for a guidance buying motorcycle riding gear, this is the place to look.

I have never really used any riding gear except for a helmet, this thread was really very informative and educational and taught me the benefits of riding gear.

So I was in the market for some budget gear, so after going through this thread and of course the helmets thread this what I have decided to buy, pls do let me know if there are any better options (or other options to check out) available then the one's I have chosen.

Helmet: Studds scorpion full face.
Jacket: Cramster Breezer/Spartan Icarus/ DSG Rage.
Gloves: Rynox Rampage/Spartan Phaeton

Well this the first phase getting geared up the next phase will be getting myself a better helmet, some decent riding shoes and knee guard's.

Well , if it comes to are the a* textile gloves better than the other brands full leather gloves when it comes to abrasion protection or longevity ?
NOPE.
Leather always wins over textile or mesh when it comes to abrasion protection. Same goes with jackets too. If you have a leather jacket it is many times more safer than a fully mesh constructed jacket in the event of a spill(ant talking about impact protection , as it is based on the kind of armor used). A middle ground is were the cordura or kevlar construction comes in. If you notice in SPG and even a* mesh jackets the elbow and shoulder area are covered in cordura material, which gives more abrasion protection to areas likely of contact in the event of a spill or road drag.

So, again are the a* leather gloves superior than the other brands leather gloves ? Might be, I am no expert in assessing the quality level of different leathers. But a* being in this business for far longer might have a upper hand there. I am in no way suggesting the other brands are lesser in quality or stuff like that.

Spartan Pro Gear Perseus (a little review from my end after using it for a while)



It looks cool and is almost invisible when wore inside pants. It comes in a universal size (one size-fits all)



There are two straps to hold it in place. These elastic straps have industrial grade velcro at two places to offer the fit as per your thigh geometry.



It is stitched with a specially made elastic strip to hold up at your thighs from the inside. As per words from Sunny sir, it is actually a silicone thread embedded in the elastic band to aid in grip. It is widely used in the products from top end brands and in fact costs a bomb.



Here's how it looks like when armour is taken out. From outside (above) and from inside (below)



After using it for a while I have observed a little wear of the cloth of the pocket holding the armours as you may see in the pic. I hope they last long enough.





There are the CE rated PU armors to protect your knee well. Here's the plan view and isometric view.





The fabric is pretty good and soaks the sweat well. Only in summers you get to have a little discomfort with some sweating, but it dissolves away as soon as you are on the go. The fabric used is a special lycra blend meant for sportswear.



Here's how they look in flesh and under-pants (kindly bear with that eye-catching froggy sandals & the dirty wall corner ). I have purposefully preferred the white background .





For first-timers: It will take you some time to find the right spot/comfort with this product, but after that you will be wearing it to anywhere........ yes "anywhere"

Thor Quadrant Knee/Shin Guards

Received Thor Quadrant Knee/Shin guards a few days back. This is a mini-review, more of a first impression.


Build:

Its made of three parts. The big shin guard and the small knee guard are stitched on thick (around 1 cm) foam pad. The knee guard and the shin guard are not joined directly and they are joined only by the foam pad. There is extra round cushion in the knee cap. The knee guards are secured in place by two elastic velcro straps and both are on the shin guard. The knee guard hangs freely.

Another significant feature is, both right and left guards are asymmetrical, clearly marked on the inner side. The knee guards hug slightly towards outside keeping in view of the angled side impacts, which is generally the case. Thumbs up to this design.


Feel:

Quality is excellent and it is felt and seen. The guards hug nicely and are very comfortable due to the thick cushion padding. I guess they can be used inside the jeans directly as the foam padding is very comfortable, but they are really thick and you need bigger size jeans for free folding of the knees.

They are very light and you don't really feel they are extra weight on your legs. When walking, they might move from its position because of the slippery jeans. When riding they are properly in place. In folding/riding position, the knee caps hangs freely and they are straight. But, they come into place once you straighten the knees.

Thats it for now. Will add more points in future when I start wearing them extensively.

Call them up, it will speed things up.I had mailed them took them 3 days to respond also, but had called them in between regarding the payment i made yesterday and received a revert by call today.
