Sounds tougher than it really is. Most fakes are of two types -

    - The first is an outright fake - a low quality product which is simply "labelled" with the popular brand name. Thankfully these are the most common and an informed buyer can simply check the official company ( in this case, Alpinestars) website to see if the model in question is listed or even exists. If it's not, it's probably a fake.

    - The second and more difficult to spot are the copies of an original design. That is the fake product has been made to resemble the original product. If it is, then you will have to look very carefully at the product to judge the build quality, materials used and also workmanship. Normally even a well made fake will not stand extremely close scrutiny and I would rely heavily on my intuition as well to make an educated assessment of whether it's an original product or not. Thankfully, extremely well made fakes are not too common in my experience.

Here's a sobering thought - The problem with fake products based on the original design is that they may 'look' good but will not have the standards required to perform their function. So in effect, gullible buyers - in this case our fellow bikers - go out and spend their money on products that will not actually perform what they are meant to do.

The sad thing is that this con-job perpetrated on us is is made easier for the cheats by our herd mentality of 'paisa vasool'. We are so pre-occupied with always getting the lowest price for something that we casually toss our common sense to the winds.
    very rightly said...
    RIP Marco

Frankly, even I'm on the lookout for knee guards, with a budget of INR 2k.

As of now, can't seem to find one that meets my quality & budget requirement.
I guess I will wait & see if something new comes into the market.

      • How to clean a helmet?

        Hi,

        I have a matt finish LS2 helmet:

I want to clean the top of the helmet as I intend to add some stickers. What's the solution I should use to clean it and what's the best method before I add the stickers?

          • Just got these things for me.
I want to say a few words for JK-17 : It is a pure value for money jacket, the guards, the material, the vents, the stitching is indeed 'very' good. I just wish this brand reaches new heights and it will for sure do

                  • I'm sorry I'm too lazy to go through the 100odd pages. Can someone point me to a brick and mortar store here at Hyderabad I can go to, to purchase a pair of decent gloves? There are leather stores, and then there are riding gear stores. There's a load of difference between 'em both.

But since you mentioned Speed and Strength here, I was wondering if all the brands available, in the mentioned sites, are of good quality?

-Last but not the least. Whats the best way to find the perfect size for ordering online? Coz I have seen that the fitting for the same size will vary across different brands.
Could someone help me out here?

If you get any good offers in Alpine start go for that as it is one of the best out there in jackets.
Joe Rocket is also pretty good.
The point is most of the Us jackets (speed and strength , Scorpoin,Icon ,fieldsheer etc.) are much better than indian jackets in terms of quality and protection . It is up to you to search for a good deal in a good brand and the type of jacket from the sites i mentioned .
If you are looking for a mesh search for the mesh there are some close outs still available in those sites. You can search category wise.

Now each company has their own size chart for selecting size.
What i have done is i have searched the net for reviews and videos of the jacket i purchased and with that you will get a good idea about the quality and size of that purticular jacket. (remember each jacket is having its own size chart) . There will be people posting i have x Kg wight and Y inch height i got Z size jacket and it is perfect for me . So if you read more reviews and see the vidoes you will get an approximate idea.
once you selected a jacket Find out people in xbhp who got that . talk to them regarding the size and quality.

Now regarding shipping riders discount will ship to india but i dont know the rates. Through Iccworld.com you can purchase jackets from many of these sites and ship to india . But the point is if you have any friend who can bring it along you can save a good amount on the total cost.
The jacket i got will cost me max 3.5 k including shipping since my friend is bringing it along. Remember you have to pay more than 5.5 k to get an indian jacket .
If you dont have any friend who can bring it from uS better check out Scoyco jackets also as they seem to be pretty good quality at an affordable rate. There are plenty of people in this forum who can tell you about the quality and fitting /size of this jacket .
