This race was a moment of mixed feelings for me.
Tuesday(practise day) - My RTR was setting some super times and it was the fastest 160cc bike baring the factory RTR. It would have been a good treat along with the factory bike as well. I didnt take the karizma as the engine was getting fixed.
The bike was very fast for the fact that it still ran a stock cylinder head. The tweeks were very minimal yet effective. The engine could be thrashed to 12000rpm every moment and reliability was terrific. On the way back from nandi that day, I clocked a top-speed of 147kmph on the speedo (which is around a true 138-139kmph) @ 11300rpm and I slip streamed and passed an RD LT bugger who was also belting hard.
Decided to change the rear sproket as the bike needed more acceleration punch. Completed the final jetting and the bike was a cracker.
I literally had my baalls in my mouth when the bike popped a clear nearly 90 deg wheelie while shifting from 1st to 2nd gear inside my office campus.
The same evening I got the karizma home and did some final settings to make it full race spec. And I was off to sleep.
Wednesday (Race day) - So we left home around 6am and woke up all the lazy riders. I was riding the karizma while a friend of mine(The cockroach - xbhp id) rode my RTR. Unfortunately on the way to nandi near Devanahalli, he crashed into a guy who crossed unexpectedly. The bike was doing around 70kmph. My pal broke his leg and the bike was damaged decently. So my RTR done for the day. It had to rest at a nearby police station untill further proceedings. My RTR stood a very good chance of winning but luck does not favour u all the time.
With all the panic calls and emergencies and negotiations done, we decided to continue riding to nandi.
Reached there just about on time before the races could commence. So to replace my RTR, I rode pradeep's bone stock RTR FI. Being a modified class, the bike stoff pretty much no chance. I put all my riding in place but lack of grunt and the steep incline meant that the RTR FI could not make it in the top-3.
However things changed when I rode the karizma. The bike was handling very bad and false gear about 3 times, and riding it was like taming a beast...but still I made it. Had a lead of 6 secs over the competition. There was a p180 claiming to be very fast with cam/head/valves/piston/carb all set-up from thailand. It was one fast pulsar, but not fast enough to beat my efforts on the karizma engine. I had seamless amount of torque and the bike won the race with a small wheelie at the finish line.
I had my mixed bag of feelings. That my RTR didnt make it for the race and my friend broke his leg, and the fact that i won the 250cc class.
I just got my RTR released last evening from the police station after a compromise agreement. The bike is getting fixed as I type and I'm all set to ride down to coimbatore for a track day tomorrow early morning.
In the end, I'm happy that things ended at this much. There is always a next time as long as you are alive
