As per my experience in Maldives- of 15 mtrs depth (am sure, gopi will share his from Mauritius experiences) Scuba diving does not require you to know swimming. I am not a swimmer!

Even if you know swimming a diving instructor always accompanies new divers. of course it cost us a bomb there(or may be coz it was dollars & everything was multiplied by 55).

The basic course began with getting used to snorkeling equipment i.e. breathing through your mouth with your nose clipped and close (Due to the mask) and the getting used to fins (the bigger task)

Point is; whether the tarkarli dive site that well equipped??

If you peeps are planning on snorkeling / scuba diving, do remember to carry at least one waterproof camera/ waterproof casing for regular camera. Or else you will really be thinking about pulling your hair out as soon as you come out of the water.

snorkeling in this part of the world is not exactly what you see on the tv or experience outside

Its a muddy affair

have done at tarkarli & dapoli -- both times it was end of rains so couldn't see much.

according to locals dec-feb is the best time.

Day 3: Rest... if exhausted...

Guys - sorry for the OT post - but needed some help!

In Mumbai for a few days and didn't carry my helmet. Going for an unplanned longish ride and borrowed the rest of the gear but my noggin doesn't fit anybody's helmet! Decided to pick up one and wanted to know where I could go to pick up a decent helmet? Where does Mumbai XBhp go for helmets?

Nothing too fancy. What can I get for under say 6k?
