Was on the WEH and saw a activa been ridden by a gal. Believe me, the way she was driving it, i felt as if she is driving a Honda Hornet. Going thru between the traffic, zooming 60+ most of the time, calm all the way thru and no panicking at all. The best part was, she never honked even once. Phew!! Hats Off!!

Same thing on JVLR. A girl on Activa coming from Hiranandani area going towards WEH (Mostly office going, as I see her in evening when I am heading home) speeds a lot and zips through traffic. I am still not very good at riding (Just speed up when I see road ahead of me empty), but still she always seem to be keeping up to me (whereas others are left way back).

I guess she must be the same, even i was coming thru JVLR and saw her after taking right under the bridge towards borivali side. Thankful to Honda for giving the old Active a 100cc engine. If it would have been of higher capacity, all the bikers would have been left red faced infront of her

@Eternal Wanderer : good to know u have rode this far from home - yes the nh4 [bombay - bengaluru] is one of the roads that puts a grin on almost riders face.
since u mentioned route 66 panvel to edappully [basically a renumbered route from parts of nh17] - it's india's one of the busiest of highways & it also has maximum accidents & casualties happening on it - thanks to loads of villages sprinkled around the highway, roads w/ on-coming traffic, 80% of traffic comprising of trucks, tourist buses, landslides in rains in certain known parts of the route, etc. - it is very easy to get stuck on this highway, especially till mangaon - the road kind of 'opens up' thereafter & then begins the nirvana trip
the road, from bombay, in its present state is a nightmare [moon / mars surface] till as far as mahad.
however, that being said, it is one of the most pristine & lush green roads in the country hands-down.
the twisties, the ghats, the high-speed bursts in between & the tight hair-pin blind curves on this route make it a challenge & a joy to ride on.
detours are many... some of the recommendations are:
lotey parashuram - just before chiplun - one of the rarest of temples of lord parashurama, constructed by shree bramhendra swami
loads of lord shiva temples - velneshwar, kunkeshwar, rayareshwar, vyadeshwar, etc. - exist along the same route down further towards south.
ganpatipule - one of the fabulous destination w/ lord ganapati temple & pristine beach
u may also explore the town of ratnagiri [exit @ haatkhamba]
if u want to get speelbound & loose track of time & life, i strongly suggest u indulge urself in kumbharli ghats - the primary connecting ghat section between chiplun on nh17 [bombay goa highway] & patan, karhad on nh4 [bombay bangalore highway]
on the nh17, dont forget to indulge in wada-paav @ shree dutta shacks @ palaspa fata, butter sada-dosai @ hotel hari krupa @ wadkhal, cheese club sandwitch @ hotel @ visava mahad, missal-paav @ hotel swapna @ poladpur & zhunka-bhaakri @ hotel duttatreya @ rajapur, etc.
and yes, some of us guys @ bombay are planning a bombay > pondi > bombay ride stretched over 5 days in early october - will drop in n say hello @ bengaluru if we get a chance @ that time
the route that @JayD has mentioned is, right now the fastest & safest & most logical & just as glorious route to goa from mumbai.

31st august midnight onwards, the nh17 has been forbidden for trucks.
all truck traffic is getting routed on nh4 till kolhapur & then allowed to exit towards goa
the nh17 is under massive road-widening work from Palaspe to Indapur but thereafter it will be jannat!
for Chiplun drive down the Expressway till Umbraj and via internal road from Patas
Similarly, from Karad, take the road via Amba ghat and reach Hathkhamba and also drive down to Rajapur
Vehicles are getting diverted from Kolhapur and via Gaganbawda ghat drive further down to Talerie, Kankavli and from Amboli ghat to Sawantwadi
Truckers have been absolved from the Tolls as well to incite them to take this route!
am certain u will make it in 1 day even if u ride like capt. slow - dont think sparta avataar will be necessary at all

Distance : Meeting Point (Fountain Hotel, Godhbunder Road) to Vajreshwari = 50km a side
Round trip might go near 120-130km !

On 7-Sept.-2013 = Fountain Hotel, Godhbunder Road.
7:30 am : Reach There
8am : We start rolling after counting heads and no further Waiting for others.

Its just a short, adventurous ride and some awesome Eye-View !
The greenery of Vajreshwari is always attractive for eyes with those awesome Water flow / lakes.

Helmet, Gloves, Riding Jacket / thick Leather Jacket, Thick Jeans (No Shorts), Riding / Sports Shoes (No Fancy Canvas shoes).

Have no clue about the number. The only thing i noticed was her zipping style thru the traffic.
