Riding is mostly through High altitude straights.Of course throughout the trip u wud encounter steep downs only when goin ridiculously higher, like Tiger Hill,Jorapukuri,or Tsongo lake(this sikkim's downhill road makes those Jeeps n Sumos smoke brake pads and engine erratically !!!!)of those steeps...........Although wid Bikes, issue is totally different, light weight machines are stressed less.Light weight vehicles too gains slower momentum under Gs.Its not the Bike's power or torque which comes into calculation goin downhill.........its simply how good the engine construction is.Air cooled 4 strokes with good air flow does wonderfully cool.2 strokes are not stressed at all. Also good engine oil also does tricks in these regions.Last of all well maintained bikes can take all of it.
    Copy that..

I think all bikes are around 150kg +/- and for these low weight vehicles I don’t think any thing would be problems. Even with few loads these bikes produce same performance. Whenever we fill the fuel tank full we don’t realize how much weight is increasing. Still with less than 150cc bike’s ppl are doing mountain trips. And 150 cc bikes according to me are enough to afford all these. Obvious all need to carry a well maintained bike ie a good tunes & serviced bike. Ppl use to service their bikes before a long trip. Any ways ultimately say how many guys are interested for this trip?

          • Update: This season March-April-May maybe warm/summer here but actually the picture is just opposite at North Bengal Hill areas. Only at this time thought the year the temperature drops bellow normal. Visitors only can see ice and ice fall at this time throughout the year. Only this months you will get ice every where at gangtok, Darjeeling etc. And if you are lucky enough only then you can visit Yumthung like very higher mountain spots.

It can be done anytime after August..........the heavy roadblocking snow occurs in late winters. Now riding our bikes from South Bengal to the North wud feel like goin from Anvil to Ubercool. As a result we expand and then contract and then break .............doesnt sounds great with a lot of gorom thanda sordi kashi and feeling weak trip rather than energised enjoyment.

Exactly, winter is always good for long bike journey. The energy level is too high at that time and we can easily afford lots of stress. Moreover this trip will require driving thought the day. 700km is not a joke, it should require one and half day for a relax journey. And also the hilly area roads with snow and moisture are too dangerous for bike riding, at least for us I think.

What is more due to snow fall the chances to get trap will increases, the chances of land slides are high. Once I had a Gangtok & Darjeeling, Lava-Lolegaon trip at Sep-Oct during puja holidays. The weather was very peaceful, it was very cold at Derjeeling and very little at Gangtok, Lava-Lolegaon. The best season I think is Nov. to Feb. and Dec would be perfect, we will get long holidays during Xmas, no work load, and we can make the journey from South Bengal to the North in all winter.

Well, April-June is also a good season, as you will see a lot of flowers. But the rains might spoil your plan.
December is not perfect if you are planning for North Sikkim, as it will be very cold. But it'll be all dry, heaven for offroad lovers. And the hotels will charge you less too. I'll say November.
Two random pics clicked by me last December in Sikkim.

Dude thanks for the info. I’ve never visited Sikkim at Dec. Once at Sep-Oct and another time at April-May 08. What I’ve remember that Sep-Oct was quite normal but May-June was quite abnormal. Even at Yumthung I was just speechless to saw the snowfall which is a very very unusual there and the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. And the roads? My FULL leg up to my thigh was under the snow. Atleast 3feet thick snow every where. The guide told me that it was our lucky day that he manages to bring us there otherwise maximum time the roads were blocked due to snow. More over the Jeep we were traveling, it has chains on every 4 wheels. And as it a biking trip so I’m more concern about the riding friendly atmosphere more than the beauty.

But whenever we will settle down a plan for Sikkim I must take advice from you regarding Hotels etc. Mostly I prefer Dec for the vacation and also winter season here. It will be easy and comfortable to ride through the Bengal. Nov is also good as it is the beginning of the winter. And April-June? Awful! The summer here at south Bengal is very tough to ride bike for long time.

Any way the pictures are magnificent. It’s spoiling my enthusiasm to work. One more thing can you tell me? Did you start the trip from Kolkata? If so then what was the full traveled distance in KM? and what was the total cost?

                      • Here is few images at April-May trip.

These are few snaps of Chhangu Lake, way to Katao, Yumthung and ZERO point. And definitely if you want to see something extraordinary, April-May is the best option to visit Sikkim. And seeing the photos you can imagine the biking experience over there at that condition.

                                Amazing pictures !!
But which year was this? Because as of now, there is no snow in yumthang. Saw pictures of yumthang clicked less than a week back in some other xbhpians orkut profile.

And yes, I started the trip from Kolkata. The route in short was : Kolkata-Gangtok-Baba mandir-zero point-Hili (India-Bangladesh border)- Kolkata. It was around 2500 kms and 10 days. Ended up spending 3k on fuel and about 4k on everything else.
