Gravelly road + banking turn + emergency tap on the front brake = me kissing the pavement.

So down I went - HARD. Hit the road, skidded to a stop and lay flat for a second with the wind knocked out of me before bystanders came rushing to my aid. Made hard contact on the road with my right side toes, knees, hands, elbows and shoulders - in that order.

Luckily for me I was wearing ALL my gear. My boots and kneepads took the worst impact ( jeans completely ripped at the knee ) followed by my palms ( ripped my glove too), followed by a roll on the right elbow and shoulder.

Happy to report that my gear did everything that it was supposed to and the only injury suffered was a bruise to my right pelvic bone. Definitely my next purchase is a pair of padded riding pants.

My Ninja however took a worse beating with the fairing damaged on the right side with the right front indicator ripped off. The handlebars too seem to be a bit off - hope not a bent fork.

Ironically, my frame sliders which might have protected the fairings are in transit and will arrive coming week. Double irony - my brand new riding gloves held together despite the fall - I had just replaced my old pair thinking that they would not last an impact.

Will post pics soon of the damaged gear soon but in the meanwhile am feeling pleased that my insistence on wearing all the gear all the time paid off.
this is sad. hope your ninja and you are up in no time.

        • Sunny glad you are ok with minimal injury.Thiruvanmiyur is a crowded place and has one of the most choatic traffic. Glad that no vehicle coming from behind or the front hit you.We have to assume that every guy on the road is going to do the unthinkable and drive defensively....for our own sake.
Money can buy and change parts in a bike but not for the body.
          Drive safe ...drive defensively
          GET WELL SOON.

              • @Sunny - Sorry to hear about the incident. I wonder if you had just let go the driver? Hope you would have filed FIR for the insurance claim. Good to see that riding gears had saved you to the maximum possible extent.

Sri, FIR is not required for claiming insurance, both are two different entities. FIR is filed only when there's a human injury & they seek justice or just vehicle accident, but man handling.

                              • Guys - thanks for all the wishes and concern. I am fine save for a bruise in my hip and some sprained muscle in the chest. My riding gear really paid off and the maximum damage was to my bike. Will send to PBK on Monday.

Unfortunately it happened so fast that the guy in the car was gone before anybody realised what was happening. The a**-hole didn't even slow down. The bystanders were actually more concerned about me since I went down so hard and nobody even noted the car's number.

No cops were involved nor report made, so I don't think that my insurance will pay up. Not sure actually - does insurance pay up for a tumble from the bike without FIR/complaint? Come to think of it, I've never claimed insurance for a bike yet, so I'm not sure of the rules/procedures.
