Finally met up with Vivek aka drvmtm today evening at marina. The Doc enlightened me on how bike electricals work Thanks for the valuable information Doc!

It was a small G2G, Sriram and Raghav and a friend of the Doc also turned up. I had to leave a bit early.

I dont know any good mechanics here. But, do we need a garage? Finding a garage is an extra task. Why dont we do it in his workshop itself (easier access to tools, etc) - provided he accepts it. But before that lets find a mechanic.

a small talk with raghav,sri and ganesh made my and my friends evening.i thank you for that.i dont feel miles away from home at all.i feel we can share more info's among each other.thanks raghav for the beautiful dinner and the panipuris.

Folks, just an update on my whereabouts.

I'm out of town on a long business trip. Will be back in the country by Nov 20, but that will be to Pune. I will get back to Chennai only by end of December or January.

1. All Participants to get the basic tools, One set per member.

2. Getting a proper place to do the DIY GTG

Definitely not within the city; have to make it like a ride far off, may be towards tiger caves, but without people to observe.

3. Getting a Mechanic to help us with better inputs (As per Steve)

This will work only when we do it in a mech's garage & at his convenience & we all know what's a mechs convenience . Rather I would say, pickup the owner's manual that has been provided along with the motorcycle & start from there & then keep going. That's how I started with Activa & its going comfortable now. Most mechs don't even start this way, if they can do it, then we can do it.

5. Timings convenient to all.

One suggestion here is, there's no convenient time to everyone in a group; @Ananth, since the idea is yours, we like to have the thread as your baby
1. Start a new thread
2. May be people who're interested can jump in to it pouring suggestions
3. That way we can get some good tips from the entire forum
4. Last but not the least, we'll do it far away from city where there aren't too many people to watch around.
5. If I'm not expecting too much, we could record the session, edit it & post it here.

I don't expect this to happen right away, May be not even this month - But some day i wish this happens & every one gets to learn out of it.

Ananth, my principle has always been, do it now or you cannot do it anytime; its now or never!!!; lets start getting dirty man!!!

I seriously want some advices / tips from our beloved friends to make this happen. Any one??

What're the things that one is looking forward for this activity? If you intent like, removing front wheels (both disc & drum), cleaning the drum & brake shoes, changing speedo, clutch, throttle cables, removing front fork assy, removing rear wheels (only drum) & cleaning, adjusting front & rear brakes, adjusting clutch, adjusting & lubing chain, removing seats & tank, cleaning disc brake pads, cleaning air filter, removing swing arm, adjusting suspension (not overhauling), removing swing arm & axles, then I can volunteer to teach any of these; I mean even with non Rx & specific to one's motorcycle. There's nothing specially required unless its a genuine international sports class motorcycle

But if you consider anything w.r.t core engine, gears, timing chain, tappet adjustments, carb cleaning, overhauling suspensions & swing arm, sorry, I don't know.

Experienced my first lowside today on the Ninja. Was taking a turn in third gear at a junction in Thiruvanmiyur when a cager driven by a moron suddenly cut across me.

Will post pics soon of the damaged gear soon but in the meanwhile am feeling pleased that my insistence on wearing all the gear all the time paid off.

Guys - thanks for all the wishes and concern. I am fine save for a bruise in my hip and some sprained muscle in the chest. My riding gear really paid off and the maximum damage was to my bike. Will send to PBK on Monday.

No cops were involved nor report made, so I don't think that my insurance will pay up. Not sure actually - does insurance pay up for a tumble from the bike without FIR/complaint? Come to think of it, I've never claimed insurance for a bike yet, so I'm not sure of the rules/procedures.

you dont need a FIR to claim accident insurance.
if they do ask just tell you skid and fell dont mention the car.

Edit - The DIY topic we were discussing today is quite interesting & it got deviated abruptly. Its a good initiative & I would like to be a part of it to learn too. Should we open a discussion thread for that & the ideas flow in or should we keep it offline?

Well, I wanted to have one for a long time now, Glad I came up with it on the thread before atleast. For now, The difficulties include:

1. All Participants to get the basic tools, One set per member.

2. Getting a proper place to do the DIY GTG

3. Getting a Mechanic to help us with better inputs (As per Steve)

4. An enthusiastic group, who wants to learn on the DIY - We wont want some one to come there & not wanting to grease their hands.I stress again..
We expect people who wants to get dirty (with grease & petrol ) & not a regular coffee - Chit chat meet.

5. Timings convenient to all.
