Nice that you will be joining us dude. If not for a few of us this would have looked like a campaign for Yamaha.

Alok, unilover, vibhor it was nice to meet you and the rest of the gang too.

P.S. Guys who are riding tomorrow, please ensure you have tanked up on fuel.

          • Breakfast Ride - Report

Returned from the breakfast ride at about 1pm. We had a total of 10 bikes participating in the ride:
            1. n_aditya
            2. exo
            3. gd76
            4. tibby
            5. Scorcher
            6. kimikid
            7. neo_akshay
            8. snapppy
            9. Tijo_Joy
            10. neo_akshay's friend (non-xBhpian)

Total riding distance worked out to roughly 200km.

We stopped at A2B for Breakfast as per plan & were done by about 8.20am, so we decided to head to the Krishnagiri Dam/ Reservoir.

Unfortunately, a Kilometre or 2 before the turn from the highway (to Krishnagiri Dam/ Reservoir), we had an incident. A mad ass bus driver hit Scorcher's bike while overtaking him. Scorcher, who was wearing complete riding gear, fell to the left side, and suffered a bruise on the forearm & a swollen ankle. Fortunately, since Scorcher was leading the group then, fellow bikers were behind him & stopped well in time. We are waiting to hear from him about the consultation, and hope things are fine (wrt internal injuries).
A fellow rider chased the bus driver, but the rascal didn't stop.
Needless to say, we decided to head back to Bangalore after this incident.

Apart from this incident, it was nice to have some new members join in for this ride.
Scorcher & gd76 did a fantastic job in leading the group on 2 different occasions, while n_aditya performed the role of sweeper fantastically well. Thanks guys!

The overall discipline among the riders was fantastic, & it was overwhelming considering that almost half the riders were participating in a group-ride for the first time. The riding formation was stuck to, and so were the speed limits.

Just wanted to mention a couple of areas of improvement:
            - Overtaking today was not upto the mark, and we would need to overtake one-by-one & not in 1 file. Please do not simply follow the guy ahead, but judge your overtaking independently looking ahead & in the RVM. There were instances where we were overtaking as a group, with car(s) right behind!
            - Sufficient distance needs to be maintained between riders, for panic braking/ hazard situations. At certain instances, there was just about a bike length distance between riders. Please be careful.

Though not many pics were clicked by me, I will post them by tomorrow.

Wishing a speedy recovery to Ram aka Scorcher.
How I wish the idea of going to the dam had never cropped up.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

Don't be apologetic man. Not your fault at all. There are always fools using the roads, & all one can do is take necessary precauations, which you mighty well did. So get this off your mind please.
We are glad its not worse than a hairline. Take due rest, & relax.

@neo_akshay: A special thank you to you & your friends, for coming along for the ride. If it wasn't for you guys, getting back would have been tricky.

                                LOL sweeper. Sounds wierd.

I had a nice time yesterday except for the unfortunate incident. It was nice meeting you all. Apologies to neo and the others who wanted to ride pillion with me. Will take you on a ride (not for a ride ) next time for sure.

What are you sorry about? Not your fault that we have morons on the road dude. Get well soon buddy and we'll see you riding again soon.

I wish we had caught that bus driver. We could have tested our carbon fiber kevlar knuckle protectors on his jaw. But then on hindsight it was good we didnt chase him as he was in no mood to stop and was ready to run over anyone on his path.

Almost had an incident myself on the way back yesterday on Raj Bhavan road.

I had a nasty front wheel speed wobble yesterday and came out of it unscathed although pretty shaken. I accelerated to around 80k's and was negotiating a turn. The bike was not completely straight or parallel to the ground and another biker was riding across the road... almost perpendicular to the traffic and not with the flow of other vehicles.

I jabbed and relased the front brake thrice (without touching the rear brake lever) and slowed down to manageable speeds so i could avoid the obstruction in my path and steer away safely. But it wasnt easy. It happened by instinct and so fast. All i could see was this biker in front of me around 10-15 feet away, braking initiated, 3 loud deep screeches, his face cringing and body bracing for impact, while my front wheel wobbled with every jab of the brake and straightened with every release. This helped me slow down very quickly and also since i didnt lock up continuously i didnt fall. When it was over I was shocked that i continued to jab the brake and release it involuntarily even with the lockup.... i was almost frozen except for my 2 fingers. Sounds easy but i was unloading bricks at this time

This is exactly how ABS works. While on the ninja I have inculcated the habit of using the front brakes with only my 2 fingers (index and middle) and press-release, press-release so i dont lock up the wheel. This technique, highly recommended even by Nick Ienatsch (author of sport riding techniques), helps save riders from nasty incidents as in panic braking one would by instinct grab the brake lever with all fingers.
