using gear oil is a bad idea. you cannot easily remove the gear oil which is way too sticky and thick and it will be all over your rim and pants after a high speed run. there is Bangalore company producing wet type chain lubes for motorcycles. i use it. it's is called "Release ON-R840". costs rs 295 per 300ml. it is pretty good for the price. and it has a real nice smell too. it leaves a bit on the rim, just a tiny bit especially the first time you go out for a ride after lubing the chain. in that case use a bit of kerosene to clean it.

@fatal

I suppose chain spary's and lubes are thicker and sticker than gear oil! i have used 90 grade oil on my 220 and have'nt had any problems with it. infact i find oil to be more convinent than chain sprays when it comes to cleaning though it does'nt last much longer like the spray!

it is just under the rear shocks. there are several links connecting the suspension to the swingarm. i've uploaded an image from the parts catalog of an fz150i(which is basically a under tuned unfaired version of r15). the parts in the blue circle are all moving parts of the r15 rear suspension.

in my case i used a 90w cheap gear oil which is meant for a diesel engine transmission. the oil was all over the rim, i tried to remove it so hard that the paint started to go off!
in the case of the chain lube it is so sticky that it'll stick to the chain and it barely spread to the rims under high speeds.

Hmmm...totally opposite in my case!

AFAIk OKS is the stickest lube i have seen and even that spreads onto the rim. And its not that hard to remove it too....just clean it with petrol or kerosene! and its even easier to remove the oil....just water wash it I personally have been using SAE 90 oil (castrol) for the past 1 yr and i dont have any complaints. I use lube only when i go for long rides!

The only reason why i dont use chain spray's is that they are hard to clean the muck and dust on the chain it attracts. With oil....just pressure wash it and you are done!

Guess it all burns down to what one prefer's!

Whatever the case may be, it's all right. Though the use of fully synhetic oil is not recommended till about 5000kms but there's not much you can do about it now. Just remember you CAN NOT shift to a lower grade oil once you've put in semi-synthetic or fully synthetic oil.

Thanks Parth...i was charged 410 for the oil....so i guess it must be the semi-synth one...thanks for the answers

I have one more question, anybody from hyderabad who can direct me to some nice helmet shop?? got a budget of abt 10k
