that's Speedo Indicated..
even auto mags have reported speedo indicated figures of around 140 Kmph on the R15.

well top speed is not only about cc...it depends on weight, rubber in use, engine RPM power generated, aerodynaics,compression ratio,etc,etc

so its more than just cc..
to elaborate..the aprilia RS 125 sold in italy has a top whack of 170kmph..

its more than just the cc that gives u the liscense to pass the other

its the same here with my R15....the noise....its weired...i have escalated the problem to one of the company's engineers...& he admitted that the chain is not up to the standard...but this is a very small prob otherwise the bike is awesome...too fast....and I have clocked 121kmph in 15secs (approx)...its really FUN

I have noticed rust on my drive chain of my R15...any prevention u know about????pls suggest....

I got my bike serviced when xbhp was closed. The mechanics in the Aurangabad showroom are very skilled at their job. I liked their work. Bike feels much smoother after the service.

rust yes .. a bit on the front frame which holds the lights. But it's at joints and should disappear with a bit of spray paint.

No probs with the fork or alloy but the gearshift has got a bit clunky. Waiting to change my oil filter tomo to see if it improves.

what about the quality of After sales service provided by the Yamaha? how would you guys rate them as compared to other Indian companies.

well recently my frend got his R15 thrashed..doing a stoppie that went all the way..gave it to the yamaha guys the same day...with all parts changed they released it the next day..and considering the parts..they had all the stuff readily available..
even the coolent reserviour container got damaged..i doubted whether they would have it or not..but they said..that they'l replace it..which they did.
and as far as the service goes..i guess the techs a trained enough and the bike is awsome ..so it really performs well after the servicing done.
im still waiting for the sports type main stand which the dealer has promised to get next weekend..so i hope they get it.

I rate them 5/5. A well equipped service center, trained staff, reasonable prices, fast services etc.

At 1500 km

Completed around 1500 kms. To echo others, I'd say the bike feels great, and should be a good bet for a long jaunt. I've felt the strengths lie in its lightness and superb flickability and great top end power. Cornering is a breeze, the rubber on the tires is also confidence inspiring, I've scraped my foot on a hairpin . I've topped out at 120kmph(speedo) at around 8.5 k on the tach in the 6th gear. Couldnt find more road around here.

The bike is what Yamaha claims it is, its meant to smoke the indigenous 'sportsbikes' ala the P220s and RTRs on the race track (if there are any in India apart from Chennai). It is not without its flaws though: the bike's 17 horses hibernate till she reaches her high revving nature, which is in line with the Yamaha DNA. Other flaws lie with the aftersales services, esp in the smaller towns. The first service was a farce, I'll have to go to some other town to get the second one done. The service centre doesnt have a chain cleaner/lub/oil filter to date. They couldnt even clean the air filter for lack of compressed air. The chain is also a bit of a niggle. I cleaned it with kerosene and it started making this 'cliggety-cliggety-clank' noise which drove me nuts. So I got a paddock stand (~2k from the showroom, an alternate is the metal centre stand which will have you lighter by around 700 bucks), and the Motul cleaner and lub (sum total 960) and got down to cleaning and lubing the chain. The noise stopped, but comes back if ridden in the rain or washed, in which case I have to get down with the lub again. I guess its important for everyone to have the lub and the cleaner, as the conditions which we ride in are pretty much Third woldish(dust, clogged water etc etc).

Having said all this, its a fantastic experience riding her and I wouldnt trade it in for anything else thats cheaper. The bike comes into her own once you have done around 1000 kms. The gear box is slick as ever and never misses, and the power delivery is devlilish, esp on the higher end of the tach. The electricals are all great and the looks are spot on. The riding position is sporty and as opposed to popular opinion, its not a haggle for long miles, if you keep the right riding position. I did 340 kms in one day without any problems. Fuel consumption is in the range of 35-40 kms for the litre. I havent faced any problems with the rake and the front suspension is top notch, and eats up minor bumps and the moon crater potholes with equal aplomb. I'm even falling in love with the sound, which I like to hear more and more as the miles go by. I guess it grows on you

got it serviced through my dealer (Ganesh Enterprise, Vikhroli, Mumbai).. not too happy with the service... would rate it 3/5.

made it very clear to them to take care of the tank... but still found neatly visible scratches!

the whole front fairing vibrates mildly, meaning some nuts are loose.

also i hear a sound from somewhere down when i rev up the throttle.. can describe the sound as when the disc-brake is rubs against the pads constantly. (this is what the sound sounds like, not actually happening!)

bike's pick-up has surely improved.. low-end torque still feels sluggish, but gets compensated by the high-end torque.

had topped 123kmph before the service, but after service not able to crosss 121kmph. now dunno the reason for that... or whom to blame.. the roads.. some after-service tweaks.. or my driving abilities!
