  • I'm changing my front brake pads, old ones have worn out. Odo reading: 7200km.

Rear brake pads have a couple of thousand kms to go I think. Bought the pads today for Rs. 685/-, will install them tomorrow.

    • How do you guys manage to wear out the brake pads in 7K kms man? My baby has done 11k kms and even now the brakes have the superb bite and feel they had since day one!!!

P.S Some revision of brake application required, I guess

I know this is very early. But what to do.

I ride a lot with a heavy pillion (my friend), plus I'm heavy too (both of us almost add up to 180kgs). Maybe that's the culprit.

I brake slowly along with rear brake, that too when engine braking won't suffice. Sometimes I use only front when I have to stop suddenly. Tried only a few stoppies and succeeded in fewer.

other than a full fairing, the R15 and the ZMR have almost nothing in common.
the R15's is a small 150cc engine freaked out to make 17 bhp, and the ZMR's is a large 220cc sedately making 17.6bhp.
the R15 is light, agile, tractable- perfect for track and cornering enthusiasts. the ZMR takes the honors in straight line high speed stability due to its higher weight.
            Mileage: ~the same in both.
Reliability: no one's doubting HH's reliability, but they're still new to Fuel injection, so the Service centers maybe a pain. yamaha are better, IMO.

            So you choose.

            • Guys, anyone facing the problem with air leakage in both the tyres. I filled air last Saturday and already I'm feeling the low pressure in both the tyres. This keeps happening every-time and I'm refilling them every week. The first six months went well and since then it started, I'm fed up now. There are no punctures. What could be the reason? Driving this bike with low pressure is really a pain as it throws back the force very hardly when I ride over a pothole or even a small bump. Please help.

I tried nitrogen, same issues. Now switched back to normal air!

              • ^^^ check for any bend in alloys. Leakage in valve-pins or any other places. Best way is to pull out some time and get your hands dirty. Clean the tyre with a wet cloth and then wipe the tyre with a cloth dripping with water - it will reveal a lot more things.

Thanks dude. I checked the alloys and they are fine, no speed runs over pothole till now. Will check again and try the wet cloth-water method. I replaced the valve pin in the front tyre, I will replace the rear one and check.

                  • Hey guys, just had a question.....

I went to Yamaha showroom yesterday to get some Oil for my RX.... and at the showroom I couldnt see any R15. SO I was shocked and just out of curiosity asked the sales person..... he said the R15s are being hold up and u wont find any, unless the Showroom has a stock of it... when asked for a reason, he said that most probably the R15 is going for some minor cosmetic changes and may be some engine tweak. But, he added and most probably now the engine's of R15 are being made in India only from now onwards.

SO can anyone of you R15 owners shed some light on this.

                    query answered: thanks HydBiker

Please check a few posts back an acknowledgment from Yamaha India that a new R15 is about to hit the showrooms. Expectations from my side upon hearing a lot from multiple sources is:
                      1) cosmetic changes (hope they don't add stickers)
                      2) engines with a lot of local content (they have started making engine components in India and exporting them to other countries). So, even if some parts are coming from Indonesia, they will be assembled here in India.

Check the valve pin for leaks before you change it.

                          Update-
Went to the Yamaha showroom for any update on the rumered/revapped R15. Cousin of this showroom's owner work's in Back Office Operation's, Head development depot., Yamaha motors India.
This is what he told me-
''Sir, we showroom people are actually kept in dark by the company's but valuable new's is constantly convayed to us. Though as far as R15 2010 is concerned, then Yes! There is something coming up. As our in the pipeline models had been called back. My cousin working at yamaha told me that a new R15 is going to be launched in March/April, time around which older R15 will complete it's two year's of launch. He didnt tell me clearly but as stated by him new R15 is going to have new designed rear and rear side profile with new type seats, tail lamp, grab rails and mud guard assembly. Fairings will have some minor hand touch changes that will make the overall bike look more sportier and more sharper. Definetly the price will go up but it will be kept below 1 lakh mark, as that will drastically increase the taxes and hence the sales of new bike. The news is still unconfirmed, but sir, I would request you to wait till march and see what happens, till then tell your brother to drive your bike instead of buying new one. Ha! Ha! Ha!''

Note- he said exactly nothing about the engine tweaking nor about the tyre's. So lets see whats up at Back Sides of Yamaha!!

                          • ^^^^ Gr8 news

So the wait is now extended to March or may be April or ....

But it is a good news indeed (if it is true), they can easily keep the price below 1 lakh as now the engine will be manufactured in India and thereby save some cost

Let us wait and watch what future hold for all of us.

But the things which I dont understand here is that if the new model will be launched in March (earliest) then what is the point in stopping all the bikes being sold from now onwards.

                            • ^^^ it is not about keeping the on road price under 1L. it is keeping the ex-showroom price under 1L. The R15 now costs about 97.5K ex-showroom.

earlier it was 97425 and now it is 98001,

as per my info the bike's production is stopped as they can't match the demand of Fazer, they are overwhelmed by fazer's response(R15 was doing around 1300 units per month) and as per a co. official Yamaha is focusing on sales(read sub 50k m'cycles)

up gradation--highly unlikely, but with the scenarios nothing can be said and whatever happens will happen at Expo
