i had asked my mech that whether i can use brush dipped in diesel/kerosene, clean the chain and lube it(this is the practice i followed in my earlier motorcycles), to which he replied NO, as it is an O-ring chain, it would be okay even if you wash it throughly with car wash-his idea is to clean it without damages, no brushes, brittles etc, post which use ep90 gear oil,...........

For those interested in knowing more about chain cleaning and lubrication here is link to an interview with P. J. Harvey, founder of the famous PJ1 lubricating products: How to Lube Your Motorcycle Chain. The last part of the interview is most interesting in context of this discussion.

Ok, jokes apart, what do you mean by problem temporarily solved?
now there is no overheating. will only be able to confirm after some long trips or some hard core heavy traffic riding.

        • Hi guys!
My bike's instrument console is suddenly acting weird since this morning. It was all fine until about a week ago when I last rode it. The tacho looks fine though, and the issue seems to only be with the digital thing, though the startup check shows all digits.
The speedo doesn't show the correct speed (it is sometimes stuck at 0 for almost 200-300 meters, & shows faulty speeds, for example: it shows a speed of 36 when I'm accelarating from say 46 ). Also the odo reading is suddenly not accurate, as I rode from home to office for about 15 kms, but odo recorded only about 10kms .
Have any of you come across this in the past? Any idea where the issue could be?
I personally think it is an issue with the speedo wiring connected to the front wheel, or maybe it could be something else. What do you think the issue could be?

My bike is due for service this weekend, but was wondering if you guys could help fix it before that.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

I had face the same problem. The speedo sensor in the wheel has conked off according to me. I bet the indicator on the speedo console is blinking. If you can get the sensor replaced it will be back to normal. Oh and the sensor is not covered under warranty. Weird move by Yamaha. The cost of the part is around 450/- without labor.

If it is showing lesser speeds, then the distance will also be lesser.
I guess its an issue with the speedo cable, get it lubricated&put back correctly, then ride again with mechanic. If that doesn't solve the problem, get the cable replaced under warranty!

sorry to say mate, but it is covered under warranty. My friend's bikes sensor conked off and the display starting giving out weird numbers. It was replaced under warranty. Do u have a bill for the replacement???

Also i wanted to add that the new R15s are not coming anymore with the maintenance free yuasa batteries, but some other brand, and afaik, they are not maintenance free batteries.

                  • P.J. Harvey correctly mentions how a lube which forms a protective film on O-ring chains benefits the chain as well as the sprocket. The Yamaha Lube (Dry Type) is the ideal solution coupled with a chain cleaner like Motul. Pictures of both as well as costs can be found in this thread.

I was just about managing all these days dude...My Victor has better throw when compared to the R15

The slim ballast got neatly tucked beneath the speedo.

@Navnish: Thanks man, hope you will help me out with the 165cc head gaskets

                            • My thanks to Navnish too. Rode yesterday from Pondicherry to Bangy all through the night. Brilliant illumination thanks to the HID. Never felt so confident riding at night and also covered the distance in about 4 hrs, with the benefit of cool wind and less fatigue

JD mine bike has Minda maintenance free battery, I bought my bike this month.

I got my first servicing done on Saturday, got Oil changed, Oil filter changed. Also got the chain lubed and air filter cleaned up. The mechanics checked for any loose fairing nut, I told them to lube the clutch cable but they said its not required. They checked the battery, tyre pressure, lights. Bike is running smooth again as it started making some Chain noise. I wanted to know if the engine sounds change after around 6500rpm if I pull in every gear, as at times I get scared that I am stressing the engine out.
