    • Buying help points for R-15

      Hi guys,

Need your suggestions on R-15 purchase. I may soon be going for one, so indly help me on things i should keep in mind and any checklist i should prepare.

Also few points that i have doubts:

      - Can i do customisations on acessories like mirrors, i liked the FZ ones. i asked the guy there he said for any customisation i have to pay the price for added part plus the original part..
      - How can i get the back seat decoy.
      - Are there any check points i need to take care of while taking the delivery.
      - is the bike's performance deteriorated while riding with pillion.. of course you cannot corner and zzap thru that easily but is it quite noticable.

i am using P200 will i see a fall in performance when i switch.. as riding it with pillion can take me to 120 easily.

      Thanks in advance...
Only thing Gods envy of mortals is that they ride.

        R15's mirrors work better
        have Fazer and 15, both
Fazer's mirrors can be added, not a big issue i think

        Just the usual ones
fresh bike, less kms on odo

Haven't ridden much with a pillion, but neither would you be happy, nor the pillion

        Happy Buying

Just check that all parts are intact, there are no scratches on the body, no paint is chipping off from the alloys and basic things like that.

You need to ask the showroom person for the rear seat cowl.
Yes bike is not the same with a pillion. Its nature changes and requires more pull comparatively at lower rpms and you can feel that quite easily. Especially after 200 you feel the difference even in solo riding but eventually you will get used to that. But keep it in its power band and it will not disappoing.

for your query regarding 120 with pillion here is an attachment---|

Good paint booths unfortunately do not accept bikes. At least at most places. Just for a small patch I was ready to pay Rs 1500 and waited 6 weeks but gave up in the end and got it touched up elsewhere - for Rs 700. This is a hassle.

They were wrong. The Motocool is NOT supposed to be mixed with water. It is expensive @ Rs 311 per liter. May be they were trying to save some cost.

I felt that the MotoCool was better. Even the Castrol coolant costs Rs 250. I didn't know I was running on Castrol when I felt that it was heating up a bit more than it used to... very tiny bit. Upon speaking this up with the service manager he said they too felt that Castrol is not as good as Motul and that Castrol was used in my bike - about 500ml that time when they replaced my radiator under warranty.

The fan exists to switch on to cool the radiator when the temperature goes beyond the cut off temp - is it 103 dgree celcius?. My bike's fan kicks in if I idle it for some time or if I run it in tight traffic. It still takes more time to kick in than what my car's fan does. It doesn't come in when I run it at a steady speed even if I do 110 or 120 KMPH for an hour.
even com paint can't match the color ... try it you will know..

better is to claim the tank from insurance or ignore if dent is small !!

              • I have a few questions:
                1. The dealer recommended an anti-theft system for Rs.1750 (approx.) and said it wouldn't affect the warranty. It comes with a remote start or something (I forgot). Would this be worth installing? Any recommendations on any other brands (and prices)?

                2. Center stand - I've read about center stands here, but when I asked the dealer he talked about one that was permanently fixed (costing 500 or so I think) and a removeable "racing stand" that costs a lot more. Isn't there a cheaper center stand that can be removed when not required? If yes, any suggestions on where I can get it in Bangalore?

                3. I recall seeing a picture from an older manual for the R15 here that recommended an oil change at 500kms. But now the manual says that both first service and oil change (with oil filter replacement) are at 1000kms. Is it better to just change the oil and oil filter at 500kms anyway? How much would this cost?

                4. What's the IDV (insured declared value) of the vehicle in the insurance policy on delivery? Does it match the ex-showroom price?

It will over strain your battery for sure!

Would there be cuts in wiring?
                    Yes.
take it in writing(from the dealer, in his letter pad with stamp, duly signed) that there won't be any issues with the warranty, my dealer advised against fitting an extra horn,
why do you wish to get the remote

Am using a paddock stand, have no experience with center stand which can be fitted

                    I believe it was/is 1000 kms
450 bucks for filter, oil choice depends on you

attaching pics for you of filter and oil

Yes. understand the reasons for that too. but that's probably the closest we can get.

the first lot manuals had a wrong print. From second lot onwards there's a sticker over 500 that reads 1000. So, the actual odo reading for first service is at 1000 KMs. Confirmed by Yamaha guys too. Check for the confirmation in the first 50 odd pages of this thread.

                      • @Vrroom

the IDV on delivery was 82k or 78k or so iirc. Ill check the papers and tell you.

Any form of modification to the electrical system is deemed void on warranty. The dealer might wanna sell his security system, but the company will void the warranty if any issue arises.

the first oil change and filter change interval is at 1000 kms ( this was written in my feb 2009 R15 ). So it is 1000 kms for the first oil and filter change.

A centre stand is not really needed. If you still need to prop the bike up, buy and keep the RX100 main stand and bolt. That will be enough.

Don't shift the gears up at the first chance... like we are used to ever since.

Run the bike in lower gears to keep the revvs up. Don't worry, unlike some other bikes, the R15 is not gonna loose its bolts if you keep revving hard.
