  • I have clocked 150kmph on the speedo with the 6th gear maxing out. I could feel the engine shutting on me. This was in about 2-2.5kms. I have pulled a bone stock bike similarly on the same roads and it has never done anything more than 140kmph on the speedo.
Yesterday at the Chennai track, I was hitting 130-131 on speedo in the straight section(the stretch from C3 to C4 of long loop) with the 5th gearing exactly ending by the next corner. A bone stock R15 will do 125 on the speedo there.

@samarth - Come-up with something on your own rather copying/chanting/claiming/quoting from what others have said. Also since you own a p180 which is the fastest bike in the world, your comments on the R15 is purely irrelevant. Maybe once you a ride a slow bike like the R15, u'll come to know how fast your pullsaar is.

This happened when the bike was rather new..(after the first service ofcourse). But now, my bike's in a pathetic condition.. lots of vibrations and the engine is a screamer now.

      I weigh 53Kgs btw :P
I do not want to venture into this territory again and invite the mods. But I weigh 70 kgs and the max I have done is around 129 on the speedo on 6th!

Yes, I changed to semi-synth at 3K kms. I have done only 4.8K till now and the bike is rugh, vibes a lot and lots of noise too. I think the tappets are loose. As for ur case, the tappets must be loose. Joel posted about the same sometime back. The SC guys do not do it unless told. They are damn too lazy.

YOur Opel wont do that unless it has another 50bhp under its belt.
Heck, even a Baleno also would struggle to do that much which is a lot more peppy than the Astra.
Exaggeration is fine, but not to this limits.

No it doesn't. You're mistaken. Or you need a new watch. Or you were smoking some very potent stuff. Whatever being the case, no stock Astra on the face of this earth goes from 0-60 in 4 secs, regardless of how you launch it. As Joel says, even a baleno doesn't, and that car eats Astra's for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I rode the R15 in Shillong. Suffice to say, no other indian bike comes anywhere close to the handling and feel of the bike. I didn't get to test the power alot, since the bike was in the run in period, but it just felt flat out great riding that bike! I loved the way my knees just "fit" into the fuel tank, and allowed me to grip it with no extra effort, leaving my wrists and grip on the handle totally loose. Great fun.

However, the bike did have a very puny exhaust note!!!!

I felt the same when someone said a stock R15 clocks 147 kmph and the argument was going on! so had to kick it out . Does not matter how great of a bike it is in terms of handling etc.

[Edit/Add] It will be great if every member of this forum stays that way which is "Exaggeration to the limits" otherwise it really feels heavy sometimes.

And yes the Astra makes a 0- 60 in about 14 not 4 secs (with perfect shifts). Did not understand how a Baleno eats it for every meal having 16 bhp and 7 cc more. (Perhaps the context is not fit for this forum).

              • @Aparajith. @ joel, what the max you have reached on solo ……..
My introduction is on page 148 just for info

I weigh 85kg on 5,11 scale.. currently I am completing my runin period , on 6th gear, at 4K Rpm she does 60-62Kmph, I have not even crossed 4K rpm till now..it’s 480km on odo now getting my first service done this Saturday 20,

Still after that I will continue to ride in same way with just 1000rev more now till 5K coz I strongly believe the initial runin is very important and is the only time frame on which the bikes performance on the long run is depended

My enticer has done 52k on odometer still with me and she is ultra smooth now….touch wood no engine hazels till date and she still hits a ton mark easily given on any day.

So proper breakin is very important for a performance oriented bike like this specially R15 coz I was beside another Blue R15 at traffic signal, and his bikes fairing was vibrating , plus lot of engine noise, seemed completely ****ed up??? Excuse my French

                Now News time:

Source My dealer Excellent Yamaha authorized dealers for Yamaha only in Mumbai Andheri, there was a mechanic who told me there are two kinda of engines for R15…

One which is tuned for performance higher top end, and the other strong midrange with lesser top end, the latter also gives better fuel efficiency

Bcoz some riders have complained their R15 struggle to go past 120, while some come and calm 140-45 top end but very poor mileage.

So is this Hoax or is it true any of Xbhps experienced the same.

@driftking: There is no new orange light it was my camera’s recording light relfection which was recorded, sorry it was a false alarm.

                • @shadowboy... seems correct for your explaination about importance of run in period + continual maintainence of bike.

the two type engine theory seems very stupid ... half knowledge mechanic crap

additionally i do not forsee this r15 engine going higher than 130-135 with a physically fit ( note : avg weight rider < 75 kgs)

I took delivery from AMBAL Motors, Purasawalkkam. I will have to adjust it there only. Not planning to open it up. If they do not do it satisfactorily, I will look at other options.

@Shadowboy : The "top-end of the R15" topic has been discussed to death here. I have no idea on the vibey characters of the R15 that was next to urs at the signal. Mine, for one never used to vibe much earlier. Now it does. Have to check it. As for the two type of engines for the R15, I better keep my mouth shut. No two engines ever manufactured on an assembly line are the same, I agree, but not to this extent. And a company will never do the tuning for every batch in a different manner. As for mine and Joel's top-speed, please refer earlier posts!

                    • @shadowboy- This difference must be because of Difference in riding conditions in the running-in period but still cant comment much on this. But it two kinds of engines really exist then mine is the high end+low mileage one.

                        Here is my experience....

On a level path, my bike does not go beyond 9k @ 6th gear. She goes 130kmph at that point. Once, when I was going down the slope, she did 137kmph @ 9.25-9.5k. With 1k to go still, I'm sure she would have made 145 atleast. Although it's a guess, I believe in it.

Another guy from Pune, has reported 143kmph in this forum (Look some 10-15 pages back - he has it in his status... 143 & still going). My SS guy claims that he does 145kmph - double-sit on the same road (Although I find it hard to believe him doing it double-sit, I'm confident single-rider is doable).
                        And God said, "Let there be light" and there was HID Kit. And God saw that the light was good;

                        • I clocked 148kmph (Speedo) this Saturday on my stock R15 on my way back to Pune from Mahabaleshwar. I hit 148 once i was past the first right hander after the Khambatki tunnel. Its a fantastic patch of road that gradually declines until you reach the flat section near the toll booth.
