  • Okay, I saw how the mech did the air filter cleaning thingy. Same as said, He turned the tank 90 degrees and removed the filter. I can do that myself now.

Bought a 1 litre pack of 'Motocool Expert' coolant. It cost me 311 bucks. The pack strictly says 'do not dilute', and is a ready to use coolant. But the svc has been diluting it from day one!! Now no more coolant changes from svc!

Does anybody know the cost of the headlamp reflector? I am considering changing the low beam to a 55/60w and like you guys said, the reflector starts fading. So how soon would we need a replacement under heavy use?

And for the chain adjustment, we also have to remove the bolt that fixes the rear disk brake assembly on the swingarm right? Its a no. 14 sized bolt.
    You get the point?? :D

You have to buy the whole assembly at Rs 2100.

Yes. I forgot to mention this in an earlier post. It is better you loosen that bolt and tighten it back when the chain adjustment is done.

try procuring a matching rear sprocket that is bigger. That's the first trouble. Once you know you get one such thing from somewhere, we can discuss what it does to trouble you...

I am assuming the fan kicks in automatically and cuts out automatically depending on how the ECU judges the condition.

On the way up did the fan kick in ? Uphill + pillion is lot of work for the engine. If the fan kicked in, It would have loaded the batt a lot.

On the way down, there wouldn't be that kind of loading on the engine, so the fan might not have kicked in. Hence the batt might have been able to withstand the drain from the HLs.

                • Iv ridden for 400+ kms on all combinations

                  1. 2 60/55w bulbs(NB & SS)
                  2. 1 60/55w + 1 35/35 w (NB + GE)
                  3. 1 HID + 60/55w(SS)
                  4. 2 HID's

Note : all the combo's had my pilot lamps as LED's.I run both low beam on both RHS & LHS as well as HIGH beam both LHS + rhs.

Never faced any issues with battery in any of the 4 combos.

Battery takes a little beating with the First combo mentioned(Horn makes weird noises):-P

Rest No Pblm , ridden from kerala to blr, chennai to home, mlr to blr.. No Pblmo...

According to me , the best combo u can use is the

one (35w halogen low beam/single filament 35w hid on high beam) + 35/35w bulb

On low beam use both RHS + lhs

On high beam use oly the HID.

                    • I heard the radiator fan kick in for the first time day-before yesterday. I was inching through bumper-to-bumper traffic for atleast 15-20min.&then my leg started to sweat. When I bent down to put my hand beside the gap in the fairing to check the engine heat, I heard a slight grr...that was the first time I heard the radiator fan! Remembered Ken Da's article on his first experience with the R1. Just can't imagine how much of heat a SBK would generate if a fully faired 150cc is generating heat enough to make legs sweat!

                      • @Hydbyker - thanks for chain adjusting.

one more doubt, after my 1st service, i see that my chain plates are adjusted to number 2, because of this do we get any problem in chain tension? do i need to adjust it back to no 1?

                        thanks.

it should give you a stronger pull (going by the books)

Next, the R15's sprocket is made light weight & strong - not regular brass stuff but aluminum alloy. See, the front & rear sprocket of R15 cost as much as total kit (including chain) of other bikes. Also, the chain costs Rs 2100. You don't want to screw that one with a non matching sprocket.

Also, each and every part in R15 is perfectly matched and tuned to the bike. Any extra load is also gonna effect the crank in teh long run (dunno how long would that long run be!)

That's not based on how much u clocked or what service it is... it is based on the wear & tear. Make sure the chain has its ply as per the manual.

                            • One more thing, in the normal free service, the svc is supposed to clean and lube the chain free of cost or charge me for it? Also if the coolant level needs topping up, is it also charged for?

The mech there said only for the 1st service cleaning and lubing (with Motul cans) is free. After that either they use ordinary lube (mobil) on the chain or I'll have to buy my own cans. He put the ordinary mobil without asking me, also it was excess, and was dripping everywhere on the ride back home. Put two bricks with newspaper padding under the swingarm on either side and serviced the chain myself.
