  • New Yamalube

Got a call from the service centre guy. He informed the new engine oil from Yamalube has come. They are:

    1. 20W40 mineral SJ grade
    2. 20W40 mineral SL grade
    3. 15W50 semi-synthetic SL grade

Has anybody tried the new lubes? I am planning to get the 15W50 in my next service, costs around Rs. 415/-

Whats the difference between the SJ&SL grade? I'll also enquire here, as my service is due in 4-5 days.

Rs 415 for a Semi Synth oil is very expensive. And then why did Yamaha come up with 15W50 oil? none of their bikes need that!!!

Is there any price difference between the SJ & SL grade mineral oils?

As such, the R15 manual tells us to stick to SJ grade. But manufacturers get new oil and want us to use it... now if take this topic to Engine Oils section it would be fun. Similar stuff was discussed in CBZ X / Hunk ownership thread a week days back

I think it's too early to use an xW50 oil in R15....

SL is of superiouor standard than SJ. SJ is the bare minimum requirement.

ohh ok.. I did nt opted for finance. Tht y its a new word for me. Thanks for theclarifications

Yes, exactly I also thought 415 is too much for a semi synthetic. AFAIK Castrol Power 1 is also semi synthetic and comes at 280 bucks
I guess there is a price differnce between the SJ & SL. Will check it up tomorrow.
First thought of posting it in engine iols threat then thought it is more relevant to R15 so posted the details here.

I believe Aparajith is using Motul synthetic 15W50 and he is happy. Even on the Yamaha Indonesia site for Vixion xW40 / W50 is recommended.
Moreover using this oil wont void the warrenty.

How was your experience with Orion ? Most xbhpian have given pretty bad reviews for their support & pre-delivery checks. For me Orion & Panache are the closest showrooms. Could others who have bought their bikes from Orion also help ?

                      Hello,

Yes. They are right. I have the same dillema as urs. As both are near to my place domlur. As I mentioned b4, panache ppl did not gave gud response, I droped my plan from there. Orion were much enthustic. However I had gone through all post here in xbhp n orkut. Its like u hv to give them a buzz everytime. Let me share them.

                      1) The day of delivery i had to call them abt the status.
                      2) For servicing, they dont give u a call or sms. I hv an apache at my place. The showroom gives call to my bro. reminding abt services.
                      3) At servicing time, they hardly cares abt riders view or reqs. So if u less spoken guy, its a call for trouble. Its mandatory to ask rider if hv any specific issue any quality issue. HHS ppl do tht. So u hv to tell thm abt all smaller to bigger issue urself.
                      4) No status update during the service. U hv to check whether its done or not.
Quality of the work is ok(not bad), if u keep a good watch and buzz them wat u want. Dont expect them to notify abt some future prbs in bike or precautions.
So if u hv the patience, u can go ahead. Else u can buy frm thr and took servicing from other places like pacer. I wanted to do my 2nd servicing there, but office work is not permitting much time. I m getting used to giving them buzzes .

                      Hope ths helps...

Btw, I am using 15W50 Motul Semi-Synth and am happy with it!

Atleast partly I was correct. You are also using 15W50 oil. That is how your name was there in my mind.

I have used both the semi-synth and fully synth from MOTUL on my bike. I have used the semi-synth for a good 3K kms and the fully synth for just 500 kms(still running). I would rate the semi-synth over the fully synth oil for the following reasons:

                              1. Cost.
                              2. The fully synth being much thicker fiddles with the idling.
                              3. Not much of a difference in heating
                              4. The pickup, gearshift, vibes and top end are the same.
                              5. Due to a lower idling on the fully synth it needs getting used to while launching from standstill
                              6. In both oils I found no difference in pickup or top-speed. Moreover the fully synth smoothens out too much at the top end robbing u the feel of revving to the red-line.

                              • Got the HID installed last night. Just one on the right cluster. Neat.
Noticed a weired thing today, the tacho was starting from 5000rpm At idle and was hitting 12000rpm when it was actually doing some true 7000rpm.
                                It was a sight.
