hi guys.. i needed some help in buying my new bike..... i was using super splendor for last 2 years... sold it... for buying new r15... but now i have some confusions.... (i have searched every page of xbhp for the last 1 month but did not get any queries about these)
1. will be r15 bad for 5.2 foot guy, 48 kg weight?? i mean any problem reaching ground?? or heavyness??
2. i will be travelling above 80-90 km every day.. mileage .. 40-50 (Highway)??
3. will it be bad for riding in bad roads (NOTE: i m living in assam... every road is pretty bad except the highways. will ride 9-10 km of bad roads every day)..
and i will also ride in hilly areas (may be once a month with roads broken in every possible way) . heard that low end torque is pretty low.. any problem in rising ups in bad conditions?
4. is maintenance cost too much compared to supersplendor or other 150 ccs??? i will not be able to spend above 500-600 in three months for servicing and other costs...
5. i dont take ladies on my bike.. but occational riders will be there.. and none with jeans.. can they sit with less problems..?
6. i will not be able to buy any bike for atleast 8-10 years after buying this.. will it survive??
7. i need this bike for stability.. i always ride above 80-90 km/h.. will milage be effected of this bike at that speed?
8. i will be travelling around 100-150 km may be once in a month will it be reliable and comfortable??
9. any problem with tyres if ridden in bad roads (heard that tyres need to be changed after 10000 km... but will it affect tyre life considerably on bad roads?
a note please. ... i belong to a poor family or may be lower middleclass with low income... i have earned above 80000 in last 5 years... and other 50000 will be carried out by loan for 5 years.. its a lot of hard work and more pressure for the next 5 years... hope u undrstand....
- thanx in advance... any answer is welcomed...

1. will be r15 bad for 5.2 foot guy, 48 kg weight?? i mean any problem reaching ground?? or heavyness?? No to both questions
2. i will be travelling above 80-90 km every day.. mileage .. 40-50 (Highway)?? Should be attainable at these speeds
3. will it be bad for riding in bad roads (NOTE: i m living in assam... every road is pretty bad except the highways. will ride 9-10 km of bad roads every day)..
and i will also ride in hilly areas (may be once a month with roads broken in every possible way) . heard that low end torque is pretty low.. any problem in rising ups in bad conditions? Not the best bike for bad roads, but manageable
4. is maintenance cost too much compared to supersplendor or other 150 ccs??? i will not be able to spend above 500-600 in three months for servicing and other costs... Maintenance costs will be higher than a splendour, although DIY servicing and regular maintenance by yourself can keep costs down, there is no guarantee that you can keep within your budget, small accidents or simply the bike falling over whilst parked may cost more for fairing replacements
5. i dont take ladies on my bike.. but occational riders will be there.. and none with jeans.. can they sit with less problems..?Don't really understand the question here
6. i will not be able to buy any bike for atleast 8-10 years after buying this.. will it survive??If you maintain the bike well, it should survive much more than 8 years
7. i need this bike for stability.. i always ride above 80-90 km/h.. will milage be effected of this bike at that speed? These speeds will be around the optimal point for the best mileage
8. i will be travelling around 100-150 km may be once in a month will it be reliable and comfortable??It's a very reliable bike, IMO a very comfortable bike also
9. any problem with tyres if ridden in bad roads (heard that tyres need to be changed after 10000 km... but will it affect tyre life considerably on bad roads? The soft compound tyres may be more prone to punctures, my bike is 3 years old and the original tyre have had no punctures and are still in great shape, only ran 8k km's from new, 6.5k since I picked up the bike a year ago (second hand), roads a pretty good here though
a note please. ... i belong to a poor family or may be lower middleclass with low income... i have earned above 80000 in last 5 years... and other 50000 will be carried out by loan for 5 years.. its a lot of hard work and more pressure for the next 5 years... hope u undrstand....
I would suggest bearing in mind your requirements, not to go for the R15, instead consider the Hero Impulse (ideal for your road conditions) or the Bajaj Pulsar 200ns if you want a sport bike, you will save yourself a lot of money on your initial outlay and with lesser or nil loan repayments you won't need to skimp on maintenance

More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

I,however, suggest Honda Unicorn. Great comfort, great mileage and great suspension.
Its a Honda, will last a decade without an issue. VERY low on maintainance and comes pretty reasonable too. Waiting period is the bitter pill. Otherwise, the bike PERFECTLY suits your needs, IMHO
R15 may 'look' really hot to you but it no-where would be able to last your city's tarmac+whether conditions. You'll burn your savings in the upkeep and even wanna regret the whole idea.
If you do end up buying an impulse or Unicorn (go with the latter), thank Noor for creating this website.__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _______

thanx for ur time... saw the impulse here didnt like it and pulsar 200 ns is a bit heavier 145.00 kg and also higher.. rode pulsar 150 before but didnt have the confidence... m now in a dilemma after selling my ss...
have zeroed on r15 now
totally
heard in xbhp that r15 chain needs to be cleaned and lubed after every ride in rain and it costs around 900 inr... is it true?? i will be riding to work everyday, so no escaping rain. if thats true, any way to do clean and lube avoiding that cost?

The chain spray costs somewhere around 300 bux, and for that you get like 18 to 20 sprays if you are not way too liberal with the spray, you need to spray the chain every 8 days,so the lubing cost is really not very high.Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a Ride!' -Hunter S. Thompson

Motul Chain Lube and Chain Clean costs around 450 bucks each. And they last for about 20 sprays. But that depends on your riding conditions too. You might have to lube it a bit more often if you ride it in the rains.Originally posted by ankur172004 View Postheard in xbhp that r15 chain needs to be cleaned and lubed after every ride in rain and it costs around 900 inr... is it true?? i will be riding to work everyday, so no escaping rain. if thats true, any way to do clean and lube avoiding that cost?

Went to a Oil dealer in my area and asked him for coolant.
He showed me a bottle of 1ltr coolant concentrate, said it would make 2ltr's of coolant.
Costs Rs.150, now i wanted to ask if i could make only 1.5ltrs from coolant by mixing 500ml in water and use that in the r15. I guess that would make a thicker coolant. Would that be better for the engine??
Also what tire pressure should i manage in my bike??
P.S: please don't suggest motul premix as at the moment i am low on cash.Last edited by revvhard; 03-11-2012, 11:43 PM.Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! AFAIK mixing two coolants is never recommended. Motocool is the best bet.Originally posted by revvhard View PostP.S: please don't suggest motul premix as at the moment i am low on cash.
Check the info mentioned below.
Learning Coolant Fundamentals
"Lots of misinformation about the compatibility of the different types of coolant technologies exists in literature and the marketplace. While it is not good maintenance practice to mix two different coolants, it will not result in compatibility issues as long as coolants from high-quality, reputable suppliers are used. Coolants are generally considered to be compatible, however, mixing coolants of two different qualities results in a mixture of intermediate quality. While not a disaster, mixing a great coolant with a mediocre coolant will result in a coolant with something of less than great performance. "
