will fazer require considerably less maintenance compared to r15?
which would give better mileage at speed 80-90 km/h fazer or r15?? also what mileage will i get if i drive below 60 in both?
any big difference in handling in that speed?
i m looking to keep this bike for next 8-10 years. reliablity?

    IF I BUY R15

is there any thing to do before buying the bike.. like inspecting something about the bike.

does anything come free with the bike apart from the key rings.. 1 friend of mine got a sunglass with szr. (they tend to keep and sell thngs that come fre)

what to negotiate with the negotiator...?? anything can be gained?

what mileage would i get if i drive around 80-90 km/h??(not runin period but after that).

where can i get motul chain cleaner and lube? any cheaper but good altrnative? also need to know about good engine cooling liquid

will be very thankful for your answers... cant go & also not willing to go for other bikes because of height problems and heavy.

    sorry if posted twice

    • Guys, What petrol do you use for your R15...
I use Shell but now the rate of petrol at shell is Rs.10 higher than Bharat for one litre...
I used to fill 10 litres which costs Rs.100 more...
I just wanted to know if it is worth shedding out the extra penny at shell than Bharath.

If you are asking about the disc plates then i would suggest that you stay away from such plates, you can never be sure about their quality and the brakes are something i would not mess with.
better to stick to stock plates.

            • Hi Sivasundaran,

First of all; congratulations for becoming a hot rodder and I really appreciate the effort you have take to note down your experiences. Well done indeed!!!

I have responded to your queries in bold:

Yes, the 165cc is almost bullet proof if run in properly.

The servicing work were done by Yamaha SVC guys, I have plans to switch to synthetic but not decided yet as Joel said oil change interval for synthetic also better be 2- 2.5K Kms. (Your suggestions towards synthetic oil usage is welcome.)

Yes, you can change over to Motul 300V 15W-50 Double Ester. It is a really good oil. I have just put it into my bike and there is considerable difference in the transmission shifts. I suspect it also lowers some of the transmission losses. You could also go Agip (a brand that is not available over here but is used by Joel for all his race prepared bikes).

The coolant level was well above low and had it topped up in SVC itself in 1000 kms oil change. Now bike has done more than 2.5K kms and no sign of change in coolant level. I guess I will stick to the same coolant. What say?

If there is no overheating and the bike is running fine there is no need to change the make of the coolant. However, if your bike is over a year old then it is highly recommended that the coolant be flushed and replace with fresh one once every year.

Early morning crank after long rest does take more time to crank up because of the CAM I suppose. I have to hold on to the starter button for couple more seconds to fire her up.

When you change to fully synthetic oil you will immediately feel the difference; it takes lot less effort to crank the engine early in the morning.

At present my idling is around 1.05 – 1.1K rpm. I plan to increase it a little (~1.2K rpm) by taking it to SVC sometime later.
Your idle rpm is too low. Ensure that it is between 1400 to 1500 rpm.

As earlier mentioned my cone set was not good and the ride was front heavy, also it tends to pull sideways suddenly while riding. Few service centers did not have the cone set spare but managed to get it changed and it cost me around 3.5K.

Do change your cone set. In addition to the cone set, I would recommend changing the fork oil, greasing of the swing arm bushes. These works will lead to a smoother ride.

However Joel is yet to give me information on petal disc for front, I hope he will let me know once he gets one. If its affordable for me I am planning to install it before moving out because I find the need for stopping power with my so so discs.

While you wait for Joel to come up with the discs, I would advice you to flush and replace the break oil. Ensure that the calipers are free and the break system is bled properly. Standard breaks are not bad at all. Just requires some up keep.

While doing window shopping in GP road Chennai I did come across good brake levers costing around 2 – 2..5K per set and bigger petal disc plates alone for 3K for R15. The levers were finished good he said its a recent shipment from Malaysia and only few in stock. I don't remember the brand. He is true because I couldn't find that in any other shops, he added that these plates alone can be used in the existing disc set up. Will it serve the purpose, is it worth it for 3K ? I don't know

I have just put adjustable levers on my bike. While they are not some reputed make (still searching), the workmanship is not bad at all. I find them to be worthwhile as for the first time I am able to adjust the levers for my reach (I have "S" size hands )

No words to describe this, its just extraordinary. For the first time when I red-lined her by just downshifting and accelerating I just saw good numbers in speedo (which I have seen earlier) and I felt no difference, I was like am I goin fast or what? If yes how fast am I going?.
I have no way of accurately telling you how quick is your run from the videos.

I have attached three links of my acceleration videos. Your comments are welcome, Did I hit 100 in just less than 9sec ?.

It is very much possible to hit 9 secs. In fact at a recent test Joelkraju hit 9.12 secs and was consistently doing low 9 sec runs on my bike. ... In fact it is very much possible to do mid 8s...

Finally the top speed question. Before MOD I can clock 132-133 max in the 6 lane highway, Now the traffic has increased in this highway drastically so I couldn't put a real test to it after the MOD. Now with the MOD I managed to hit 140 in 5th gear and then change d to 6th It went back to 137 and tried to crawl to 140 but I ran out of road. I am sure I can touch between 140 -145 if continued past that. I can say a relative increase in 8- 10 kmph in top speed for me. This got me curious and mailed Joel asking for gearing change, but he recommended to leave it as it is. I suppose for a commuter like me its advisable to reduce the weight and increase the top whack ( ). A 70kg rider can hit 150 easily I suppose. I don't know how much difference will 20 kg rider and removal of DB limiter will make. Enlighten me please.

Top speed is dependent on a lot of factors. However, the upper limit is always determined by the gearing of the bike.

              • @ revvhard Thank you for reading my post and for your advice, my plates are real bad, its like lots of speed breakers built in , Most of the time I had to brake hard and the lever goes good distance, So I thought of replacing it (both front and back). Your suggestion taken and Yes I will stay out of after market plates. I have some real craze about the petal discs I will try that with Joel if it doesn't materialize then I will go for stock. Thank you once again.

@Abimanyu- Thank you for reading my post patiently and for your replies. In my next oil change I will switch to synthetic oil for sure. I will get it done in SVC itself. We can just fill it should we do flush ?

My ride is 4 years so far I have not drained the coolant entirely, I will definitely do that too. I am changing the discs for sure I will do the oil change also, I have recently topped them up though.

My videos are crude, I sensed something in low 9s with a decent launch. I am in the process of weight loss during the course I can again shoot a video and see the difference relatively. I will update when I do it. Next time i will definitely do it without the DB limiter.

With respect to the levers I suppose I only have to try it to find a suitable one. The problem is I don't know where to find good ones. If you can suggest any online products for R165 its welcome.

The top speed which I am getting now is more than enough for me I dont do frequent touring. Acceleration does matter to me, I was just wondering what would be the difference in acceleration if the DB limiter is removed and with a 20-25 kg less rider (I am just curious to know the potential of our set up) . I guess I had to do it to find out. If it does happen it will take long .

                Thank you guys

You can just fill it in. However, do ensure that the engine is warmed up before the oil is drained. Also make sure that the oil filter is replaced.

I have yet to find compatible levers from a reputed brand like Pazzo or ASV. However, as mentioned earlier, the ones that I am using are of good craftsmanship and finish. I got these from Kamla Yamaha, Lower Parel, Mumbai. It remains to be seen if these are durable and lasting. I am attaching couple of pictures for your reference.

With 20 to 25 kg less and the DB limiter removed, your bike definitely show a huge improvement. This improvement will not be just in terms of figures but also in terms of throttle response and the manner in which the bike puts the power to the ground.

                  Thank you guys

                  • I Will take it to SVC will be there while changing the oil to instruct them.

I saw similar adjustable type levers but for 3000 bucks in chennai and they are not blue. I will search for better ones if not I will try those which I get. Thanks for the Pictures.
So far I have lost 3 Kgs and will go ahead I suppose, Its tough to maintain the continuity anyways I will give it a Go.

I will update you in between when I get a chance to remove the limiter and do a run.

                    thanks

Regarding the disc plates i think the daytona kit offers brake upgrade's too, maybe you could try the daytona plates with the rest of it kept stock.
or get stock discs for replacement and use the brake hose and master cylinder from the daytona kit.
