Hi Guys,
Need suggestion/inputs
The ODO reads 1300, have been riding bit hard at times after crossing 1000. But nothing close to real hard revving. Have not crossed 8500 rpm in any gear. had a oil change to Yamalube 15W50 at 1000kms. The engine sounds bit more metallic at lower revs but the clatter diminishes and almost disappears when revs goes high (still the sound is not same as it was before). Now the real concern for me - There are vibrations that can be felt especially in 2nd and 3rd gear. I feel vibrations from the tank on my legs and crotch area. and similar vibrations on right foot rest also. These vibrations are completely new and was nonexistent till before 100-150 kms. From different postings here I have reached the possible conclusion that it could be because of loose tappets and/or loose engine manifold nuts/bolts.
Guys, please throw some light on this issue and share some valuable points if you have come across similar issuesRide swift, ride safe...

hey guys thanks a lot for your suggestions (in what bike section). i started a thread in whatbike section a few weeks back and finally i bought this bike. its a 2008 august model. the bike had run 3440 kms when i took the delivery three days back. the bike has new engine oil. i removed its saree guard as i dont like it.
i had these querries which i posted in that thread.
1.as you all can see from the pics that the previous owner has put a 130 section tyre at the read and has put the stock rear tyre in the front. he has given me the stock front tyre which is new. he has not modified the swingarm or any thing. what should i do now? should i put the stock front tyre in the front and let the 130 section tyre be at the rear till it wears out?
2.in the 3rd pic you can see that the panel is broken. how much does it cost?
For pics click on this link http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/what-bik...sed-r15-2.html.
now the thing is that i have changed the front tyre to stock and i felt the difference immediately. i havent changed the rear tyre yet to stock. i have the stock rear tyre with me as it was fitted in the front. i want to know
1.should i change it back to stock & if i do it then what should i do with the 130 section rear tyre?
2.my radiator is of the old type i think as the horn is mounted on it, what needs to be done about this?
3.the engine oil is new so does my bike need servicing?
sorry for the long post guys but the thing is that i am new to r15 and i am really excited.

If its tappets, you'll hear the sound everywhere. Even at idle. I doubt tappets will come loose so fast. As for vibrations, it is the engine mount bolts. I'm gonna post a DIY soon for the mount bolts.Originally posted by SiD13 View PostHi Guys,

You can manually bend down and check. Look for anything irregular touching the disc surface. If its visible, then you know what to fix. I still suspect improper assembly.Originally posted by sveetvenom View Posthay buddy,..thanks for the reply,..i will goto the svc Bangalore wheels and screw them royally,..after your earlier reply, i went back to them and asked them to inspect the noise, they just sprayed something and , it was fine for 10 mins, then the sound returned, il make them solve it for good soon.
Dunno about free services, but a basic service (wash+oil change) costs 150 here. Anything more than that, you'll be charged silly labour charges, even if the job is as silly as tightening fairing screws (a friend was charged 50 bucks for 11 screws, sheesh!)Originally posted by tibby View PostGuys, my bike is a year old now, & I have exhausted all free services.
Can you please tell me what is the cost of a paid service at Yamaha SVCs? Is it uniform (determined by Yamaha), or varies from SVC to SVC?
I think it is about INR 450 for R15 at Perfect Riders, Bangalore. Not sure though.
Also, I can't seem to locate the drain period of Yamalube semi-synthetic engie oil. Help on this also pls?
About the drain period, (*straps his crash helmet on*) I found the Yamalube semi-synth absolutely rubbish. It barely dragged till 1500kms and the bike was harsh, gearshifts- notchy. I drained it at 1547kms and found oil level down to 700ml (300ml consumed). Using Motul's 300v,and last time it went 50xx kms with just a 50ml drop (could have used it more, but I panicked and replaced the oil).
The question numbering is all wrong!Originally posted by nawabnabeel View Post1.as you all can see from the pics that the previous owner has put a 130 section tyre at the read and has put the stock rear tyre in the front. he has given me the stock front tyre which is new. he has not modified the swingarm or any thing. what should i do now? should i put the stock front tyre in the front and let the 130 section tyre be at the rear till it wears out?

sorry for the long post guys but the thing is that i am new to r15 and i am really excited.
Nevertheless:
1) You already have put stock in the front.
2) Dunno which panel... Can't see the link.
EDIT: saw the pic. Its the side panel. Costs 580 bucks.
New set of Qs:
1) If you don't mind the loss of performance, efficiency and riding dynamics, you can stick to the 130 section. My personal advice, put the stock one back on. It offers all the grip in the world. Amazing tire.
2) Ask your local svc about replacing it. Tell him Yamaha has initiated this drive, and you want yours to be replaced. They will ask for your chassis number, and if its the old batch, they'll replace it.
3) Largely subjective. Or not. Ask the previous owner about the service record. Its 1300kms I think? So has the bike done its 1st service (at 500, or 1000?)? If yes, then no worries till next service. If not, get it serviced ASAP! The oil filter needs changing (if it hasn't been done in 1st service). You get the point?? :D

@All: Confirmed that the new prices of brake pads are as follows:
Rear: Old price Rs.1115, New price Rs.690
Front: Old price Rs.685, New price Rs.390.
The quality&maker remain the same, no compromise here.
This has been done after taking customer inputs/grievance about the high cost of wear&tear parts replacement, looks like they don't want us to stop riding the bike or crib about spending too much on maintaining it.
Yes Yamaha!

Crashed!!
Had my first ever crash on my beloved R15..
At almost standstill speed.. about 15 kmph.
Was riding towards the OUT gate of my office,
overtook a cab which had stopped from the left,
and went into a chain that was strung up as a
barrier at about 2 feet off the ground. It was a
plastic chain, but i fell when i hit my front brake.
Fairing cracked, RHS indicator and mirror broke.
No damage to me, except for a slight sprain in my
leg and a tear in my favourite pant..
Surprisingly, felt as heartbroken as if i'd totalled the
entire bike! But i guess thats the magic of the R15, you
cant help but fall in love with ur heart and soul...
Was planning to give the bike for 2nd service tomorrow,
so will fix the broken stuff. A pal said R15 fairings are available
for MUCH cheaper at JC Road than at Yamaha showrooms.
Bangalore guys, any info on this? Will probably take a look to
see if they're just cheap imitations or good quality stuff. Might
be useful info to other owners..
Anyway, jus got back from work and tryin hard to sleep.
Thoughts of how i betrayed her by letting her fall still filling
my mind..A good rider has balance, judgment, and good timing. So does a good lover!

Thanks KP! The SS is decent so far, but I guess I will switch back to Mineral oil.Originally posted by HydBiker View PostRs 250 for the service is standard. Consumables extra.
No one generally mentions engine oil drain period on the cans. You are supposed to see what suits you and what doesn't void warranty.
Thanks samarr!Originally posted by samarr View PostOrion will cost Rs 295.
Servicing in Kolkata sounds economical man!! Here even those local mechs charge 250 for servicing. I know about the labour charges man! I am not too happy with the SS either. Doesn't seem any different from the Yamalube mineral oil. I guess I will switch back to Yamalube mineral.
Motul 300v is SS or FS? How much?

You gotta be extra careful with this bike. I for one never take it in those narrow lanes you see between vehicles, those tiny passages aren't for fully-faired bikes, especially if the mirrors are protruding out an/or are not foldable. Be careful next time, I'm sure you will.
Regarding those fairings available in JC Road, sounds like imitation stuff. Wouldn't recommend buying them if they are only upto 15-20% cheaper. You wouln't know the exact quality & build until a crash. Take a call once you see the finish, but like I said, a crash would be the only means to find out the build-quality, and mere looks would be deceptive.
My views on the YZF-R15 V2.0: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/news/198...tml#post699240
The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

Oh, thats bad on their part. My rear brake pads have about 1-1.5K kms.life left in them. I'll buy a new pair once the new stocks arrive. Servicing is also due in 1K kms.so both will be done at the same time.Originally posted by buggy View PostYeah I just called up every service center in Bangalore. Congrats for getting the best bike the country has.. regarding the tyre... you did great by changing immediately the front one... regarding the rear one.. i suggest you to keep the 130 one.. coz since its a rainy season... the R15 rear tyre is not good on mud, sand as it tends to be slippery... But its a perfect pair of sticky on dry road... And those who said.. Never put 130 tyre at the back are the ones who haven't experienced one... About the rear tyre , in the SVC today i saw an R15 with the FZ16 rear tyre on it ... dunno what mods had been done to incorporate that tyre , didn't get a chance to check either as it was being washed ... R15 stock tyres are pretty good ... almost all tyres slip on mud and gravel bro ... so again you decide ...Originally posted by freakzil View PostCongrats for getting the best bike the country has.. regarding the tyre... you did great by changing immediately the front one... regarding the rear one.. i suggest you to keep the 130 one.. coz since its a rainy season... the R15 rear tyre is not good on mud, sand as it tends to be slippery...
