Guys, after my Ladakh tour the R15 is in the workshop now for 27K service.
They are changing the Radiator. Didn't get to speak to them clearly on the details but will get the details soon. The new radiator has its cap on the LHS as against RHS for the older ones. I am sure they would replace all those that have their horn mounted on the radiator. But then, if the cap has changed the side, I guess they would go ahead and replace for all the R15's. Will confirm more details in a few days.
BTW, my R15's radiator was replaced once in 2009 due to leakage at the horn mount. This was a new radiator - after the 2009 models came out with horn mounted on the chassis. The service manager knows this thing clearly.
In fact, looks like my workshop guys know and remember things about my bike better than I do. My R15's clutch bell started giving extra noise from when it was 6K KMs old. Off late it has become pretty audible and without any mention of the issue they are working on it.
While on my tour my Speedo started showing erratic speeds right from a steady 0 to 199
the Odo was working hand in hand with the speed displayed. They are working on that too and said it would most probably be the sensor (thank God it is not the speedo. I kind of hate resetting my odometer).
The bike took heavy beating of running into potholes and road undulations during the Ladakh tour. At least thrice it got banged very hard and I feared a rim bend. Once the front felt like it bottomed out (remember, the R15's shock don't bottom out - even Yamaha guys said that to press during launch. If someone knows that this is wrong, please correct me). But, there is absolutely no problems with that. This is a message to those who don't maintain proper air pressure and get bent alloys.
Yamaha is taking care of certain things - pricing of consumables like disc pads, service, upgrading our bikes with better designed parts - not just for new customers (where some other companies would have simply launched a new bike with those changes) but also for two year old ones!
Consumables on my R15 so far:
1) Front Brake Pads - once at 12K KMs service, once at 21K KMs service (less highway use this time)
2) Rear Brake Pads - once at 15K KMs service, once at 24K KMs service (less highway use and though they had some life in them I changed as I was about to Tour Ladakh)
3) Fork Cone Set - at 6K KMs. Considered under warranty replacement as it was a premature wear. The current one is giving tak-tak sound now and then after my Ladakh tour. I think it can last some more time. This thing is expensive at over Rs 1.5K
4) Clutch Cable - at 6K KMS. It became very tight. Considered under goodwill warranty by company executive
5) Clutch Cable - at 23.5K KMs. It broke. I replaced it myself.
6) Coolant - Have been topping it up. About to replace completely now as it is almost 2 years and the radiator is being changed.
7) Radiator - at about 15K KMS service - Warranty replacement as coolant started leaking from the horn mount
8) Air Filter - at 24K KMs service. Part was unavailable at until then. Supposed to change every 12K KMs
9) Spark Plug - at 9K KMs service. Changed to NGK Iridium.
10) Oil Filter - at 1K, 9K & 21K KMs service
11) Engine oil - 13 times so far in 10 services.
12) Chain & Sprocket Kit - at 24K KMs service
13) Tyres - Both Front & Rear changed at 24K KMs. They still has life but front was bumpy and rear was leaky.
14) Clutch Bell Bush - at 27K KMs service
15) Rear Alloy at about 10K KMs - got bent and then eventually developed a crack. Was riding with low air pressure then.
16) Have to change brake fluid and fork oil in next service.
I think that's all. A few fibre parts changed due to cracks after a couple of "almost" stationary falls.
Also, I have heard that Yamaha & MRF worked on the rear tyre compound and the Zapper-S tyres produced after March 2010 have a little different compound (we cannot make it out with eyes or feel). It seems the new tyres are better at handling punctures and their sealing material without a change in grip levels. If someone has better info, please post it here.
Yes Yamaha.
You keep up with the commitment of giving us good stuff. We'll be your customers for a long time to come.
Yes Pearl Yamaha. Thanks to Siddarth and all his staff for making me feel good that I've bought a Yamaha.Last edited by HydBiker; 06-28-2010, 08:59 PM.

It is almost 9 months since i touched my bike after my thumb came in rear chain sprocket and i had go thro surgery. now that it has recovered I am planning to give bike for servicing and change few components. and few upgrades like
1) Going for Bixenon Projector Headlight with HID either H7 or D2S whichever is cheaper.
2) Change Front and Rear Tyre
3) Air Filter
4) Battery I am planning to put 5A battery instead of 3.5A i think if we remove foam under the existing battery it will fit.
My question is regarding changing battery can it changed to 12V 5A without any harm
any Inputs

Hi guys just wanted some feed back regarding users using hid on the bike as i am going for a kit. Some queries-
1)does it take any toll on the batt??
2)any extra mods required like messing around the original wiring as do not want to screw anything on the bike.
3)also saw philips blue vision anybody using it?
All ready got some nice info from drvtm. Would like to hear from owners too regarding their experience with hid.

I have a air-pump which has an analogue gauge to read out air pressure,Originally posted by HydBiker View PostOnce the front felt like it bottomed out (remember, the R15's shock don't bottom out - even Yamaha guys said that to press during launch. the pressure read out is a steady 28psi and still my front bottoms out a lot under HARD braking.

Thanks. Maybe that is what they are recommending in the manual. I'll ask them to change if they have it in stock.Originally posted by jd666 View Post^^ By the brake internal components, it means that parts like the piston, rubber seals etc should be inspected. And the brake fluid etc should be replaced.
Also generally the brake components, like rubber parts etc ( at the master cylinder, etc ) should be replaced once after 3-4 years.
Ditto situation for me.Originally posted by santoosh View PostRadiator is being replaced like the Mesh Panel . FOC.
I dont want to get it changed , but stil getting it changed cos I needed to change the coolant after 2 years , and its about time exactly , so a new radiator instead.

Congrats on successfully completing the Ladakh trip! Waiting to see the thread.Originally posted by HydBiker View PostGuys, after my Ladakh tour the R15 is in the workshop now for 27K service.

Mine also has the sound, you know about it, but it is off&on.My R15's clutch bell started giving extra noise from when it was 6K KMs old. Off late it has become pretty audible and without any mention of the issue they are working on it.
Yes I agree wholeheartedly with you. I have also banged it very hard into potholes which bent my other bike's steel rims, but there was no difference on this one, thankfully I was maintaining correct tyre pressure. Please post a DIY, it would be very helpful for tourers.5) Clutch Cable - at 23.5K KMs. It broke. I replaced it myself.
How much does this cost? And what about the housing-was that changed as well? If yes, how much?14) Clutch Bell Bush - at 27K KMs service
You have told me about this, as well as the radiator incident. What was the cost of the rear alloy?15) Rear Alloy at about 10K KMs - got bent and then eventually developed a crack. Was riding with low air pressure then.Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Foot pump? And for approx how much? I need one of these!!
Yes! Take it seriously! Whatever metal part is scratching, the disc is getting ruined with every rotation!Originally posted by sveetvenom View Posthalo guys,...my rear brake pads were replaced during my last service around a month back,...however they are still making a screeching noise every time i apply them, even now,..should i take it seriously?,..what can i do to stop the noise?
If possible, dismantle the rear. I'd replied to your previous post too.You get the point?? :D

rear tyres have also some air leaking problems , i always inflate the rear tyres up to 33psi after two days it drops to 20 psi. no punctures svc said.......
still now i have not done the valve clearance , during every service i insisted the service manager to do the tappet clearance, but they some how convincing me,,, what will happen if the clearance is not correct...
