also I don apply the front brakes cause am not in a habit of it....will start...but anywys..wht could be the problem
No problem with the bike, but it is designed that way, 2 piston caliper up front&single piston at the rear. You need to use more of the front to stop it, applying only rear will cause it to skid badly. Like Krishnakant said, try 70-30 braking or even 80-20.

Now that is real good news, since my rear pads are due for replacement at the next service, which is 1K kms.away.

Regarding the headlight assembly, can I get it replaced under warranty? Water is going only into the right side part and forming moisture. When i showed it to the SVC guys, they said I need to replace the whole assembly and they didn't mention anything about warranty..
If you have not cracked it on your own, then demand a warranty replacement.

Also my fuel meter behaves oddly. It goes to reserve mode when there is more than 2litres in the tank and shows the reading F-70 ,and again afterwards it becomes F-0 all of a sudden!!! I noticed this happen many times, is the meter problem or any other? Also the backlight of the speedo console is very dim when compared to other R15's.
    Warranty for that too, then!
Btw did your other parts arrive?

Are they still working? Both my sets (original+warranty replacement set) conked off within a month or two!

I agree that the road presence is better, but a huge looking bike which doesn't handle that well or go really fast just doesn't cut it for me atleast.

OMG 2 pairs within a month hard going bro, but luckily mine are still working (touch wood) on the contrary my friends position LED lasted for just 1 month or so but he never claimed for warranty the SVC ppl said that electrical accessories don't have one , To add to this all the other asscessories i.e. anodized ones of my bike have had faded in a matter of 1-2 months and i have made clame for that but no reply over an year so , I think i have to live with that

      • Need Help Sound from the rear BRake pad

        Guys,
As i told you all earlier i have changed my Rear brake pad as per the instructions of the service centre guys, after only 2980 KMS. now i have the new one. but now when i apply the brake i hear some scraching sound from the rear . so i thought it was due to the new brake pads So i tried to brake it quite often to remove the sound. but still it persists. But today to my surprise i started hearing sound of some thing scratching while i ride the bike without any brake applied, guys what can be the problem. is my DIsk bent? Does that's the cause of worning out of my earlier disk pad? OR is it a problem with the installation of the new Diskpads? if the disk is bent without any reason, is it under warranty?

Please reply soon as i'm going to the service center (Perfect Riders bangalore) tommorow.

        • Just a gentle reminder - guys who have bought their R15s between June 2008 and June 2009 need to get their radiators replaced free of charge from Yamaha service centres. Apparently there is a time frame within which this needs to be done as well (they didnt tell me the date). You will need to remind them to do it, I gave my bike last week to Orion and they didnt mention it. I had to call them and tell them to do it.

Bought my bike in May 2009. I checked with Perfect Riders when I had been there 2 weeks ago, & they had a list of chassis numbers for which the replacement was warranted (list sent across by Yamaha). My bikes's chassis no. didn't feature in that, & so I wasn't eligible for the free radiator change.
Apparently, a batch (or more) of the radiators might have issues, reason why Yamaha is repalcing them FOC.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

                          • Spoke with the showroom owner and as per him the changes are warranted because the horn was mounted on the radiator which caused breakage of the radiator in case of a spill.
and they had done the mods already on each R15 they received on their own from the very beginning.
and he inquired whether i faced any problem with my current unit, to which i replied- No, as i am not facing any issue.

^Owner is known to me(a relative as well) and offers discounts and i am satisfied with them overall as of now, and as per them if the need arises my radiator shall be replaced.

No sweat. Just check 3 things, the steering head, the rim and the disc.

would the motorcycle make enough power at the alternator to flash your lamps and use horn?

                              1) undercover assy refers to which part on the R15
2)Water is getting into the headlight whenever it rains or when i waterwash the bike. what might be the problem
3)my 2nd set of rear disk pads have lasted only 5000kms. the mechanic says that i need to replace the rear disk itself..should i change it so soon?
                              1) Which parts are damaged? Maybe we'll narrow it when we have a list.
                              2) The seal isn't working. 2 options, getting a replacement, or using some sealant (check Sunny/digislayer's blog. He had opened his headlight assembly, and he knows which kind of glue to use).
                              3) Check the pads and the disc yourself. If the disc is badly grooved, and has thinned less than 4mm (check in several places on the disc), replace it.

The foot isn't very sensitive. You can't get the precision that comes naturally to your hands, with your foot. So invariably, you end up pressing the rear brake harder than needed. Use maximum front braking. If you're not using it, practice using it first before you ride it on public roads.

Yeah! Even the front pads cost just 390 now!! And still imported from Singapore. Try getting the headlight replaced under warranty. If its within warranty, they bloody well replace it.

And that happens with all fuel meters. Just to be on the safe side, get the console checked too. My friend's console also had stopped working after the backlight used to dim.

the braking feel and feedback is awesome, one finger control, and progressive throughout the brake lever movement.

I was riding thru the rain at about 85-90kmph testing the disc, the tyre did give up at some point under hard braking, but the front remained as grabby and tight as when dry.

A worthy investment i must say, but it will eat thru disc pads quite fast due to the petals cutting against the pads.
Cool man!! BTW did you try finding out the price of just the brake kit (from the R15's race kit)? That might have worked out cheaper.

The scratching might have been because of improper assembly. There is a clip kind of thing which holds one of the projections on the brake pads (if you see the pads, you will see they have projections on both ends). That clip is stuck to the black brace on which the entire caliper assembly 'floats'. If the clip comes off, the mech might have installed it the wrong way, and it scratches the disc. I'd done this once by mistake too.
