  • hi guyz,,

just returned after a wakeup ride and i am tensed with the heating up issue of my r15..
let me give some details of my r15

    4n half months old,
    has done 5452 kms
and all the fre services have been done on time..

today early morning i had a ride for 1.5-2kms(speed 20-30km/hr) n returned bake parked my bike and found some mud on my rim(due to rains) and when i was cleaning it some droplets of water fell on the radiator and it just smoked..
like when we pour water on a hot metal...

so do the radiator heat up so much only after doing 2kms??
    please reply
if urgent service is required then i can do it after my sems nly because the nearest service centre is 120kms away..hope it will not harm much.

What's wrong with a push start?

Its just a different method of cranking the engine. What's Fi got to do with it?

In other news, have completed 2600km on the R15, should be givin it for service in a week or so. Planning to try out Bangalore Wheels as i've heard they are the best here. Bike's been giving me mileage of around 30-34 kmpl, however i ride (cruising on highway or belting in the city). Handles like a dream. Only problem i'm experiencing is roughness from the engine, which will probably be a thing of the past once i get the service done.

        Regards.
What exactly do you mean by skipping? Is the lever pulsing, or does it feel like the brake bites, then lets go, and this happens in succession? If its the latter, then probably your disc is bent or the rim is deformed/out of aligment.

Dude, stop worrying about the heat.

There's controlled combustion taking place in your engine, and its natural things will heat up. As long as you are not losing performance, the overheat indicator lights up, or the fan runs incessantly, there's no worry.

Check the coolant level once, and top-up if needed.
        You get the point?? :D

        • As pointed out by Rossiter, it's perfectly ok to push start an Fi bike, so long as the battery has enough juice to power the ECU and the fuel pump. No harm done at all. Have had to do it once, coz the bike was parked with the parking lights on for more than 10 min

Bike hasn't been dropped.. Havent hit any major potholes (craters ) either. Anyway, 2nd service is due in a week so will get it checked then.

            Reply much appreciated svjhonda!

Just leave it like that. If possible, under a roof. Nothing to worry about the battery - it is rock solid. I did this a bunch of times.

Even if your battery dies, nothing to worry. Sit on the bike, find a slight incline, put in 2nd gear, push the bike a bit and release the clutch - the R15 comes to life. Ride it for at least 5 KMs then.

                • i just wanted to ask something here........

                  i have a few questions
-> true top speed of r15
                  -> 0-60 time

bro, the r15 is best in terms of technology, and it is a better bike than 220 and zma.

but still is karizma R is comparable with r15 as it also has 17 horses and 18.50 nm torque[while r15 has only 15 nm torque].

kindly shed some light of this and pls be unbiased.

I said it is not recommended, not that you can't do it.
I myself have push started it, but with a battery.

would the motorcycle make enough power at the alternator to flash your lamps and use horn?

                        1) undercover assy refers to which part on the R15
2)Water is getting into the headlight whenever it rains or when i waterwash the bike. what might be the problem
3)my 2nd set of rear disk pads have lasted only 5000kms. the mechanic says that i need to replace the rear disk itself..should i change it so soon?

Can we get some more details on this one? Which undercover is he referring to?

2)Water is getting into the headlight whenever it rains or when I waterwash the bike. What might be the problem?
If there is a minor crack also moisture can form.
If not, then this looks like a manufacturing defect of the sealing in the HL Assembly. It should be replaced under warranty, else the entire assembly costs a bomb, around Rs.2500 or even more.

3)My 2nd set of rear disk pads have lasted only 5000kms. the mechanic says that I need to replace the rear disk itself..should I change it so soon?
Looks like you had used the previous set till the metal contacted. Check the disc plate to see whether it is badly grooved. If yes, you need to replace it. Good thing here is the disc plate itself costs Rs.900, so less than the pads cost!

also i don apply teh front brakes cause am not in a habit of it....will start...but anywys..wht could be the problem

                            • That the rear disc plate is 900 comes as a relief to me because the mechanic was saying it might cost around 2k. One good news for all of u is that the price of the rear disc pads has gone down. Now it costs only 690 !!!

Regarding the headlight assembly, can i get it replaced under warranty? Water is going only into the right side part and forming moisture. When i showed it to the SVC guys, they said i need to replace the whole assembly and they didn't mention anything about warranty..

Also my fuel meter behaves oddly. It goes to reserve mode when there is more than 2litres in the tank and shows the reading F-70 ,and again afterwards it becomes F-0 all of a sudden!!! I noticed this happen many times, is the meter problem or any other? Also the backlight of the speedo console is very dim when compared to other R15's.

Dude, i am sorry to tell u that the problem is not with the bike but u riding style itself. If u apply only the rear disc brake always then surely the rear wheel will lock and hence the chances of skidding. This happens on any other bike let alone your bike.

The only solution to this would be to change your habit and hence apply both the front and rear brakes simulataneously to bring the bike to a halt. The brake should be applied in the manner 70% front and 30% rear. Try this if this helps
