It's Vixion, same as R15 in India, it's not air cooled, it's Liquid Cooled engine.

The time when R15 was unveiled at the MMSC track in chennai, the head designer of the project said that they didnt spend a lot of time on the engine. Only the fairings were tunnel tested. Heck , what he was trying to tell is or rather what we found out is, the so called super sport r15 is nothing but a clad version of the naked street bike which is known as the Vixion or the FZ150 or the FZ150i or whatever. Not only the engine, the entire bike(frame to rims to disks) minus the headlamps and the instrument console are from these bikes.

Even before whole of India was getting a taste of the R15, we had ppl already testing out the big bore kits and stuff all thanks to the talented t135 tuners. Not only the vixion, but also the t135s and if not wrong the 110cc step thrus from yam share the same engine layout.

In a way, we guys are lucky to have these things (read bolt ons) readily available.

Coming back to your question , yes its all the same..

if i gave r1 of this pic (which i given), then it will not become r1, by the way you can see the rediotor inside the front firing ( mentioned in the blue box)

              • Tomorrow I'm gonna get my front brake pads changed for the 1st time. I'm pretty happy they lasted me about 15K kms.as opposed to the rear, which gave away in about 10K kms.!

Yeah, I used to use too much of rear braking initially, but then rectified the braking style. But by then there was quite a bit of grooving around the rear disc (I feel its less efficient than other R15s, but others feel its just the same). It has started on the front too, but the pads are not completely worn out yet, so thought of getting them changed a few 100 kms.in advance.

He advised to book the bike with more than 50% of the amount so that one LE variant shall be with-held in my name, this will also help me as if I pay the booking amount before 1/4/10 and get the loan sanctioned, I'll have to pay by the current rates. However, he gave me a computer printed brochure with the prices of all bikes on sale by yamaha, and it's clearly written on the bottom that "Prices prevailing at the time of delivery will apply." Can anybody shed any light on this? I'm confused as-to:

                      3. What about the conflict between the statements by the sales-guy and the price list given?
You will have to pay the amount applicable at the time of delivery no matter how much in advance you pay the booking amount or anything.

What is applicable is the price on the day when the vehicle is booked in your name (This is my opinion).

However, the amount that you need to pay depends on the day when you collect the bike. This is 100% correct as i've read about many cases (Read P220) where the amount was paid beforehand but when the price was raised then the customers had to pay Rs. 1400 which was the difference between the old and the new price.

I know about the F.E. figures and how they vary as per the riding style....I'm a very sedate rider(maybe that's coz right now I have a weak-ass ride) so I think that I'll manage about 40-45 km/l. What I want to know is the expected life and cost of the consumables like disc pads, engine oil, tyres etc . Can anyone help me??
Well you can get around 40kmpl pretty easily. 2 of my friends have R15 and they rip it and ride it sanely as well and with this they manage a mileage in the bracket of 40-42. I guess with this you can draw an estimate for the expected mileage.

Lucky you that the rear disc pads lasted for 10K!!!
One of my friend had to get them changed around 6K kms only!!

BTW, can you tell about your experience about transition from mineral oil to the semi synthetic or synthetic. How did the bike respond to that and any issues faced (If you are still on mineral then its ok )
                      My thoughts...

I have seen cases where the rear brake pads were replaced at 1st service itself. They were 'riding' the brake pedal.
Ideal braking is 70% front&30% rear-if I would have used them in this way since the beginning I would have replaced front first&rear later.
Anyways, never too late to learn correct braking!

As for the oil, I shifted to Yamalube semi-synth after 3-4K kms.&have been using it ever since. Initially I found the bike to be growling a bit, since the oil is thicker (its 15w50), but it serves the purpose very well on touring&lasts upto 4.5K kms.at the most. After about 2-2.5K kms.gearshifts become slightly hard, showing that the oil is losing its quality. City riding it can comfortably be used for 4K kms. No difference felt in smoothness. Engine runs cooler as compared to mineral, obviously.
If you are into touring you will appreciate the advantages of semi/full synths over mineral oils. In city riding anything is ok, IMO.

                          • My rear are still going strong! Done 12,6xx kms, and still working good. One side the pad has lost the bottom marker, but other three wear markers are fine.

Front was changed at 8.5k. Reason being, I did stoppies before...

BTW does anybody feel the brake pads that came with the bike are more durable and better working than the ones we buy later? My front seems to be worn beyond halfway, and I've done just 4.5k after the front pad replacement...
                            You get the point?? :D

This is the same thing available with the SVC.
I repeat, NO problems faced whatsoever.
I didn't get any special flushing or anything done-the mech just drained out old mineral oil&poured this in.
