I have no idea about the price, but few of my friends installed HID's - Osram nightbreaker and Philips. They have installed only a single HID and they said that installing HID on both the headlights will drain more battery, so my advice would be not to do so.

So you mean to say that R15's battery can take the load for 1HID?

The R15 battery can take 2 35w HIDs without any issue. You can check my album have done many HIDs installations on the R15 and so far no complaints touch wood.

Two HID's also can be installed buddy, but the battery will drain faster. It depends on your usage and the Wattage of HID.

I'm not able to check your album at the photobucket!!! I once tried checking there but it was asking for some login id and all which i didn't had. Can you mail me some of the photographs from that? I'll PM you my e-mail id.
And secondly, what is the specification of the HID's you've installed?
I also read somewhere that prolonged usage can blacken the reflector. Did you encounter that issue any time?
And another thing. For how long you've used the HID continuously at a stretch? Any issues after that? As i'm a bit apprehensive that it might cause battery problem in city traffic. Did you encounter any of this kind of issues?

            • As I think Navnish will concur, two HIDs is overkill. One is good enough for any highway jaunt. Have used the HIDs for over 200 kms in one night and no issues at all.

If you look into the details of the HID working, the major diff b/w halogen lamps is the starting current. HIDs draw higher starting current. Once the ballast is fully charged, the running current is around 3A and total power consumed is 35W, same rated power as your regular halogens.

My advice, get HID for the high beam and stick with stock on the low beam

Tip: Watch out for cops when you use the HID in the city. It's a definite cop magnet and will blind oncoming traffic. I've had even truck guys asking me switch off the HID

Yes 2 hids are over kill .I very well know that, but i keep changing my setup as per requirement :P . I have other electrical s like a AFR meter and a few other things so i usually be careful of my battery. i have been using one hid on the high beam since 1 1/2 year now and it never have me issues.

The best setup i have had is a dual hid low beam ( both halogens ) high beam both hids

FYI who has not seen the halogen + hid.
The high HID low halogen bulb looks like this

                  • Hii friends please help me.
My R15 has done 9600kms till now in 7 months. Recently, i had given it for 4th free service and i changed rear disk pads, oil filter, engine oil. This is my first bike and i don't have much knowledge about bikes. I felt that my bike's engine and gearbox was very rough also there was no pickup and told the mechanic to tighten engine bolts, check tappets. When i took the bike after servicing the bike was so smooth and i felt the difference. But sadly, it was only for a day. The next day onwards the bike was back to normal, the mileage also dropped to around 35. Now the bike is so hard to ride that i dont feel like riding an R15 anymore. I took the bike to SVC once again yesterday and showed to mechanic. At first he said the bike was good to which i didnt agree. After some arguing, finally he adjusted rear wheel and tightened the chain and lubed it. Once again on riding it was smooth but after few hours it was back to normal. I asked the guys about some harsh sound coming from engine idling in neutral for which they gave an explanation. According to them, if the engine gets heated then the bike becomes hard and so on. I refused to believe him and i told them to show any other R15 which they did. That bike was normal and asked him why my bike is like this. So he said, sir your bike is fine and further if u want please contact the service engineer(who vists weekly once). I couldnt do anything but come away from there.

So, please suggest me guys. I feel that the service of Yamaha especially R15 is the worst i have ever seen. I am so irritated that I am deciding to sell my bike. Is there a way i can get the R15 back to its smooth nature? Help me decide.

                    Thanks

                    • Selling it?

Thats bad. Stick in there man, it'll get solved.

The SVCs in hyd are not so bad. You should ride to Vijayawada and get it done there if you think the SVCs would be better.

I don't think they reset the tappets. Is there a kinda loose marbles sound coming during idling? Then they are the culprit. What engine oil are u using? Did he really tighten the engine bolts? (You can do it yourself man) If there is just a slight change in sound when you clutch and unclutch, then its the clutch bell that needs to be looked at.

Take the contact number of the service engineer, meet him. Looks like these normal mechanics don't know anything. Tell him your problems but don't be too overbearing or something, we just want that your bike gets back to normal right..?

                      • For the 4th service, I have ridden to Vijayawada SVC thinking that they might be better. But, I felt they were not any better than in my place. They didnt seem to know much.

Well, yes there is a loose marbles sound during engine idling and the mechanic told that he had tightened all the engine bolts. He also said that there was no problem with tappets yet i find the engine hard. Also as u said the sound changes a lot when clutch is engaged and disengaged. The rattling sound comes from engine. And i am using the Yamalube engine oil which costs Rs 415. The problem is when i am riding constatly at around 30 in 3rd or 4th gear(3k rpm) there is that sound as if stones are there in engine and if rev a little till 4-5k rpm and go constantly at rpm then the bike becomes rough and it feels like stopping as if out of fuel.

Ofcourse buddy, i desperately want my bike to get back to normal. Selling the R15 would be a insane thing but its due to frustration only!!!

                        • Loose marbles sound in idling is due to the tappets only. Get the valve clearances set&examined with a feeler gauge-it may take 2-3 attempts to get it right, but then you'll have peace of mind for the next 4-6K kms.depending on your riding style.
The clutch bell/housing sound is common for all R15s.

                          • This is great!!!
I have a tendency to ride R15 with its headlight on even if its a day. And no day has gone till now when i haven't had instances where people are pointing to me indicating the head light is on. And the funny part is even if i acknowledge that by nodding my head they still continue to do so.
                            This is so much fun!!!
