Clutchless shifts in theory sound very cool, but you need to get it right every time, get it wrong and you are hammering the gearbox. Alternative, since the gearbox is a syncromesh one, you do not need to pull the clutch all the way to disengage the engine from the gearbox, develope a habit of using the clutch with 2 fingers, thereby leaving 2 fingers between the clutch lever and the handle bar, notice that it helps you shift more smoothly. The added advantage is that since you are not depressing the clutch all the way, you will get significantly faster gear shifts, without any danger to the gearbox.
well you won't be noticing when i am upshifting and the downshifting is associated with truck loads of blips and i can only think of Reuben Xaus replicating the same, LOL

on a more serious note, i am trying to perfect my shifting
when i am about to hit the redline especially when slotting 2nd from 1st, this is where i sometimes just use clutch, okay most of the times to save the 'box and local mech says clutch housing has already developed some unwanted noise though mech(SVC) says its fine

Well, your funeral (or rather your bikes')!!! You are 'trying' to perfect your shifting, but what is the benefit of the doing such shifting? Its going to cost you by the time you 'finish' (in terms of money, time and reliability of your bike) perfecting the so called skill. When improperly done, it really plays havoc with the gearbox, and the shock of the improper shift travels through the gears, bearings, clutch assembly, the crankshaft, connecting rod, the piston, etc. In short almost everything gets affected depending upon the intensity of the shock.

Also i really dont understand what is the use of learning clutchless upshift and downshifts for normal commuting. Could any one explain to me ?
The use in one word: Laziness Don't want to take the trouble of using the clutch. Its some akin to the typical habit among us of not wanting to downshift or shift through the gearbox to keep the bike in powerband. That's the reason most people keep complaining about the power being stacked high in the R15.

I don't do so much thinking dude,
          though Thanks for concern

may i ask what is a syncromesh gearbox?i thought bikes did not have those.

Man, even i complain about the powerband thing. Especially inside city, I never bother to change gears in pulsar.
Also, the fact is, in an R15, thoung we change gears in Micro seconds with clutch without blipping the throttle, it does take a lil more time for the clutch to get fully engaged. i can feel that. Clutchless upshifts can be usefull only in track. But i dont want to strain my gears.

@ krishkanthr15 - I dont know to explain it man. Actually i am not
Knowledgeable enough in Clutch to explain it completely. But you dont need to worry about that. Most of the R15 has that problem. You can live with that. If not get the clutch overhauled by the SVC

Yup. I agree that there is a slight lag in the clutch actuation. The tradeoff is that it is pretty much a bulletproof clutch system, one that Yamaha has been using for ages. And yes, clutchless upshifts are useful on a track, but downshift, that's an absolute no, no.

The trouble is that most people don't seem to understand the process and seem to be using it as a bragging point on the street corner meet.

This is true in most cases. It was with me too. But i never perfected it.

AFAIK and also as written in the article you have mentioned it says that cars have sychromesh while bikes have sequential gearboxes.please correct me i am wrong

But now i observed one thing. During engine idling in neutral, when i hold the clutch fully, the engine sound is fine but when i release the clutch fully i noticed that the engine sound gets rather harsh. What could be the reason?
thats the clutch bell coupling. my friend just got his replaced two weeks back or so. ALso the tappets should be checked and adjusted nearly every service ( every 3k kms ), if you have a habit of revving your bike high in each gear. or else every alternate service.

                          • R15 queries

Guys i've got a few queries regarding R15.

Firstly, what's the duration of warranty on the bike as in if i wish to fit in some other electrical components normally it would void the warranty but once the warranty is over no harm in that. So wish to know what is the warranty duration.

Secondly, is R15's battery capable of supporting an HID headlight?
I think some people have installed the same on their ride and they will be in a better position to answer this one.

Thirdly, any idea about the cost for 4300K HID from xenon? My friend is getting it for around 2400. So wanted to know about the same.
                            My thoughts...

The warranty of R15 is 2 years.
