    • Hi Guys,

After much analysis of this hugely informative thread, other reviews, feedbacks, and tips from some really helpful xbhpians I have booked the R15 today.

Here the dealer is saying about a minimum of 30 day waiting period. The sales girl was even saying that Yamaha have slowed down the production of R15s..I am not buying that!. May be the demand has gone a bit up or may be Yamaha is trying to keep inventory low.

Expecting to take delivery of bike sometime after mid April..

Till then you friends can ride alone...err..or together

      • ^^ yamaha is restructuring the production of the R15( thats about as much as i can leak to you), thats why there are delays. Furthermore due to the immense popularity of the Fazer, the company is concentrating more on producing Fazer than the R15.

That very much could be the reason for delays..but too much long waiting periods can actually result in loosing customers to close competitors.

But holding the above quoted reason valid for delays, I have always felt whenever I visit various Yamaha showrooms with specific inquiries about R15, the sales people trying to push FZ and Fazer. Is this because sales margin of R15 could be considerably low compared to FZ/Fazer?

          • ^^ the dealer margin is nearly the same on both bikes.. but its the initial cost of getting a 1lakh rupees bike vs a 70,000 rs bike, that the dealer eyes and looks at saving for each order. So you will see maximum nos of FZ-S, Fazer and minimum R15s.

That makes lot of sense, I expect Yamaha's marketing team to be very much aware about this probability. Why haven't they done anything to overcome this glitch? like simply increasing the sales margin a bit (considering the overall cost factors of-course) or allowing extra incentives while hitting a particular number of sales of R15s. or are they under the impression that those who want to buy the R15 would buy only the R15 despite the glitches in supply chain..

              • im sure they would have some system in place.. For eg. if you visit the gurgaon yamaha showroom, its got more R15s on display than the Fazer!!! ( around 6 bikes on display!! ).

BUt if you go to the fbd showroom, they might have one bike on display.. and that bike is the bike that you can buy if you wanna buy right away.. since there is no holding of stock when it comes to R15.

the bike does not sell as readily as the F family.. so why block your money on it.. if someone wants it.. they will gladly order it..

Its quite understandable that the buyers want to keep the inventory to absolute minimum in case of R15, but compared to Gurgaon of Fbd the condition here is very sad, the only bike that would be on display if any, would be the bike waiting to be delivered to the buyer. ie, the only period for which the bike is displayed is the period of arrival to the delivery period, after that till the next lot arrives there wont be a single one on display. I hope the situation is better in more happening city like Cochin in Kerala.

Also a person who really have done his home work and zeroed in on R15 would wait for the bike irrespective of the waiting period. However a not so informed buyer may go for the closest competitor. R15 may not be the machine without alternatives (like the Royal Enfield Bullet).

Btw im just headed to a friends place who has dipped the chain in diesel overnight.. and apparently to remove the chain, you have to remove the rear swingarm as well... and the mono shock linkage at the bottom has a bearing instead of a normal rubber bush etc...
i have not yet checked the mileage. there is some loud bassy orgasmic sound that comes when accelerating from 4k-6k rpm. everybody turns their heads. above 7k rpm there is (instantly noticeable)acceleration improvement. the bike revs a lot freely at high rpm. i really love this setup. i am finding it difficult to find a reason to ride my bike now. i simply want to keep riding it all the time.
but there was not much difference in performance before adjusting the co. so co tweaking is a must.

@JD--i hope they aren't planning a new model, are they? i may go to Surajpur(some work) and though they spoke about other platforms(commuter) not a word about Fazer or YZF series

                      • @sheelpriye - Buddy don't tell me that they would launch a revamped version just after i take delivery of my R15!!! That would be hugely disappointing.

@JD - Does restructuring production means making changes to the existing model in anyway?

A personal thought - I don't think the current R15 would come with meatier rear tire. Obviously because of performance reasons.. (I am not looking forward it to either). But a tweaked rear session and redesigned rear light is very much possible.

Yamaha, i think won't be doing that. but something based on a la Fazer might be a possibility,
customer demanded a fairing with twin lamps, they got, lets see how this goes on

As paper filter will get damaged even if little amount of water goes into it ..

rather plonk on after market filter like K&N and remove the top cover , as cotton gauge or foam filters can withstand water to some extent cause oil coated over them !!
