    • 1st can you explain the bold lines?
2nd after how much kms the bells and bells rubber should be change?
and the lathe method which you telling is just a temporary solution right? and i think bell rubber are available separately with Yamaha dealers, today only i asked but its out off stock now and the price you telling i.e 1400 includes both the bush and the bells?[/QUOTE]

If the clutch bell makes excessive noise then you need to change it,in the new bell the bushing is riveted inside .... ask sc guys to change the clutch bell after tat it will be fine.. jus refer the service manual for the first question....

anyone who can put some light on that , i am also getting similar sound at 7-8 rpm , actually in lower gears when i redline or take to high rpm , the feels a little strangulated , although the pickup is good , but the sound feels odd.

Could anyoone pleae help ? Is it normal or is something wrong ?

Mate, till now, I haven't seen any bikes having such kind of wheel. I don't know about other fellas, But, according to me, these kind of wheels do not give the best appearance to the bikes.

              However, Wheels made bike possible.

                  • I was looking at the chain yamaha has given for the r15 and I don't see a master link on it, maybe it is due to the fact that I'm seeing a chain off the bike for the first time but I did google a bit and saw some youtube videos trying to know what the master link looks like but still can't find it.

Does it come without the master link? If so, how does one take the chain off the bike and put a new one on? If someone can come up with a DIY thread on these lines it'll be highly appreciated.

                    Thanks

From what I know, the chain has no master-link.

Maybe one can open any of the links, & re-fix it (I don't know. MAYBE its possible).
To remove/install a chain, you will have to remove the tyre & the swingarm. This is what I have at all SVCs here.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

                      • The chain has no master link because it's a closed chain, i.e it can't be opened up into an open chain. To fit the chain, the whole swing arm assembly has to be disassembled, and only then the chain can be fitted

                        • thanks tibby and hifisharu for the info.

opening up the entire swingarm for chain change, that seems like an awfully complicated job which could've been worked-around if yamaha had provided an open chain....anyways, is it doable DIY way? or do we have to rely on svc for it? Would a DIY thread on the same be too much to ask?

and while we're on the topic, which one is better? DID or ROLON

I think DID was coming on the older r15s and nowadays we have rolon coming, I was told by someone here that one is better than the other, I'm just unable to recall which was the better one.

                            Happy to help!

Leave the job to the SVC man! I'm sure you don't have the tools for the job, plus its a skilled job with the tyres, rear disc, & swingarm assembly. Learn it seeing them do it, & do it next time if you really have the keeda.

The DID is better. The older R15 used to come with DID (no idea about current ones). The DID chain costs about INR 2k, while the Rolon costs just INR 855!!
Go for the DID if you have the money or think its way better. I would go for the Rolon eyes closed, for its less than half the price, and Yamaha procurement wouldn't be that screwed up to offer sub-standard spares for its premium bikes.

                            EDIT:
Get the swingarm & monoshock greased if you are getting the chain replaced. This if your bike is over a year old (minimum), else get it done later.

I have a big DIY keeda, but no-one to teach me. Learnt a few stuff from the mech at svc about regular service. Will try to learn more

I've got my hands on a used DID chain, was at adjustement point 3 when my friend decided to change the chain set due to 4-5 jammed links. I took the chain from his hands happily and right now it's in a bowl filled with kerosene to get the jammed links freed up. Cleaned up the front and rear sprocket already but don't know if I'd actually ever use them though.

I don't know about the quality of the ROLON chain, but this particular DID chain went till only adjustment setting 3 with 18k kms of riding and minimal maintainence. I think he's only gotten the chain lubed about 3 times in the whole 2 years he's had the bike.

Says something about the quality of the DID doesn't it? But with a difference of more than twice the ROLON is a more sensible option for replacement.

I somehow have a feeling the DID would be way better...got my bike in august '10, most probably fitted with a ROLON chain.. recently noticed a jammed link and consequently hell lot of vibrations..

as tibby rightly said, it isn't feasible to do DIY for chain removal,
which implies i can't remove my chain myself to soak it in diesel, neither can i go to the svc, leave my bike overnight..not that i can ride w/o a chain

not exactly in a mood to buy a new chain-set that soon (~7k). are there any better options?? should i try contacting yamaha back office regarding the quality?? KEEPING IN MIND I HAVE BEEN TAKING DUE CARE OF THE CHAIN..??

one more thing, i have vibrations..can it be because of the jammed link?? the vibes are mainly felt on the left foot-peg and the handlebars..
what confuses me more is that the vibes increase with the rpms not exactly speed.. i.e. 2nd gear 50 has more vibes than 3rd gear 50..
but if the vibes are only because of the chain, shouldn't it be constant with constant speed...???
after monday and tuesday, even the calendar says WTF!!
