Right decision, but we don;t know yet how the Rolon performs. So I'm not jumping to a conclusion yet! Whats the make of the chain on your bike?
    Happy to help.

You can clean the chain with diesel/ kerosene (will leave that to you. you can search this thread for the pros & cons for each of them) using a toothbrush. I did that when my chain had a few jammed links, & it helped a great deal. Its a messy job, but well worth it. I did it 2-3 times, & got a good result.

what confuses me more is that the vibes increase with the rpms not exactly speed.. i.e. 2nd gear 50 has more vibes than 3rd gear 50..
but if the vibes are only because of the chain, shouldn't it be constant with constant speed...???
The jammed links could be causing roughness in ride quality, & slight vibes on the left side. Additionally, you woul be hearing a noise from the front sprockets when the bike is on the move & above 4k RPM.
I don;t know how bad the jammed links are, but if you are not able to get them sorted, you might want to change them. Else you will end up damaging the sprockets too!
Take a decision based on how well the diesel/kerosene clean-up act goes with the chain.

I got the chain all cleaned up, took about half a liter of kerosene to just clean off the dirty gunk off it. chain is a bit rusty on some parts but looks to me in good shape.

Mine is a 2010 make so I'm guessing rolon, I dint check it when the chain was new and now after 10k kms there is too much dirt on it even after cleaning that I can't make out what's written on there.

To give an idea of ROLON VS DID, my rolon chain is at the 3rd adjustment setting after 10k kms and good maintainence (lubing every 500kms), while the other DID chain that I've got was run for 18k kms without maintainence and still was just on 3rd adjustment setting.

I'm thinking of using some WD40 on the DID chain to get the rust off and give it a new-ish look. any opinions?

thanks for the reply bro..will clean the chain asap..
btw just out of curiosity, is it normal to cruise at speeds of 70kmph+ each day?? would it have any adverse effects on the long run...??
just that maintaining those speeds is so easy on the R15!

also, on a hot summer day(), in normal traffic conditions - cruising at 60+, stopping at signals, crawling for a few minutes in 2nd/1st gear and occasional ripping, should one expect the radiator fan to kick in..??
i ask because its hot as hell in nagpur and till date ~7k, ~8 months the fan has kicked in just twice or thrice that too while crawling endlessly with a pillion.. is the frequency awfully low?? or is it supposed to be that way..??
after monday and tuesday, even the calendar says WTF!!

As I replied to you via PM, there are 2 options-getting it rectified in lathe, and changing the entire clutch bell.
The lathe method has been a permanent solution for some, but as surendar says below, changing the bell might be the ultimate solution!

1st can you explain the bold lines?
2nd after how much kms the bells and bells rubber should be change?
and the lathe method which you telling is just a temporary solution right? and i think bell rubber are available separately with Yamaha dealers, today only i asked but its out off stock now and the price you telling i.e 1400 includes both the bush and the bells?

If the clutch bell makes excessive noise then you need to change it,in the new bell the bushing is riveted inside .... ask sc guys to change the clutch bell after tat it will be fine.. jus refer the service manual for the first question....
If you are in Bangalore, then go to Perfect Riders. I got it for vibhanshu from there, they gave the bell as well as the primary drive gear. We checked digislayer's site for the part nos. Cost of the bell was some 1200 odd, and with the drive gear included it came upto 1400, like you said.

@tibby: You are right about the old chains-mine has never been taken care of in the last 1+ year&the bike is pretty smooth. Though the chain got pretty loose after my Bangy ride!
But the quality of rhe brake pads seems to be fine enough-I didn't experience any change in braking, since I got both the pads changed last time.

@Shivanshu: Here are pics of the seat cover&handle grips. Kindly excuse the low res 2mp cell cam pic!

              • Guys my friends R15 Rims (Both Front & Rear) are broken with an impact of a stone which was in the center of the road. As per him he was around 60-70 KMPH and was unable to dodge the stone yesterday. I saw the pics of the Rims, Rear rim is completely teared off and the front one is bend.

This thing hapenned at JNPT road and he had no option but to tow the bike till his house which was around 50 Kms from there.

What are his options? I guess this cant be claimed in Warranty and need t get claimed under insurance. His bike is very new and just done 1200 Kms in 1 month.

He has already informed the Insurance company yesterday after I suggested him. Everyone was very surpised to see the conditions of the Rims. I also have a fazer and went through worst potholes and stones at even 100+ KMPH. I never faced this kind of problem.

What might be the reason of the Rims bend? As per him the tyre pressure was also correct and both the Rims also cannot be defective. I guess the Rims are designed to bear the impact.

I remember reading on the forum about use of WD40 for cleaning the chain. Just use the search feature or google it. I think its safe for use.

Its all normal & the R15 engine can take constant high-speeds. I'm no technical guy, but it is said that engine running on lower RPMs last longer.
The radiator fan kicks in when it needs to. So long as it is kicking in, no need to worry. Just ensure there is enough coolant in the reservioir.

                            1. How much did the seat cover cost?

                            4. Some kind of stitching involved, or it just slides onto the seat?

The rim is designed to deform on heavy impact, so that the impact is not transferred to the frame, & subsequently the rider.

Rub it with sand/emery paper. Check if the brake fluid is moving freely, as the rust could be forming due to lack of/ insufficient brake fluid supply i.e. lubrication.

                            • Radiator fan

Hey guys, I noticed that from a few days my R15's engine is getting heated up abnormally, that too after riding for just 10 minutes. One thing i noticed is that the radiator fan is not kicking in even though engine heat is untolerable ! The heat is becoming more and i am getting a kind of smell. Btw, engine oil was last changed 500kms ago. Never faced this issue before. Any ideas ?
