DIY - Service
Service Aftermath: Stiff chain, loose steering, “feel less progressive with the breaking”(this could be something else), feels like they have mixed coconut oil with engine oil – the gear shifts have become rough.
– this one is a classic - As an audit measure I have filled the allen holes on the panel with wax and the wax was untouched on return. I told the service guy “you haven’t even opened the side panels.. if you have to check the valve clearance or adjust it you would have to open the side panels.. right?”. He quotes “Sir, the bike is fuel injected, there is no carburetor to clean”.
I smiled.. paid 1300 Teflon + Motul Lube + Collant topup + Engine oil.

Fellow R15 Buddies, I don’t think we can expect good service from Yamaha Service Dealers. With this economic crunch everyone has just one intention – make profit with little input (unskilled labor).
The only option that we have left is Do-It-Yourself way, boycotting their income from service.
The manual has simple instructions to do most of the stuffs. However would really appreciate if the experts(l-e-o-j
) speak-out on what should comprise a good service..
eg :-
1 – Wash and Dry - Bucket+Cold Water+Shampoo+Soft Cotton Cloth+Sponge+Brush*Varied size to clean insides.
2 – Check Plug n reset gap if necessary - Clear in manual
3 – Clean Air filter – Wash with surf and rinse.
4 – Replace Engine Oil - Yamaha Lube Engine Oil
5 – Clean and Lube Chain – Motul or OKS, Can degrease using Paint thinners
6 – Lubricate pivot points – ok.
7 – Check coolant level - Buy the coolant and refill if required - Motul
8 – Lubricate Clutch and throttle cable - ok
9 – Polish - Robert's Polish.
10 – Adjust clutch if required - Clear in manual.
11 – Check breaks pads for wear - ok
12 - Check valve clearance - its some work
13 - Wheel runout - ok
…. Please feel free post your own editions, the intention is to have a safe and trouble free bike…Last edited by RED; 08-30-2009, 05:47 AM.

U need to seriously bribe someone at an ASC or flick one copy
. Thats the only way a layman can get access to a factory service manual.
You cant get these stuffs online. max you'll have to scan and load it online.
But its against copyrights act.sigpic

Yamaha Service Center .. should be possible in smaller states where personal relationship is a major factor behind vehicle purchases..Originally posted by Joel View PostU need to seriously bribe someone at an ASC or flick one copy

Suhail,It’s not that easy..
Again like Joel mentioned it should be an Authorized SC.
Joel, to start what tools do we need?(other than the supplied toolkit and torque wrench)Last edited by RED; 12-09-2008, 10:29 PM.

Oops, my mistake.. I've been only using UNI foam filter for years now and got used to the washing with soap thing..
Actually if you are using the stock filter, u can tap it and use vacuum cleaner with blower function.
Else use the old school cycle pump method.

hey Power1, it was panache buddy.. I know some say Pacer is better and Bangalore Wheels is great..
But do you think any co involved in making profit would really want to impress you by keeping the vehicle trouble free.
Trouble is a strategy and consumers are its victims.
I’m not downbeating them, but its commonsense.
Can’t we keep aside 1 hour a month for a 1 lakh bike, yeah and 99% of R15 owners are not above middle class, admit it.
Do you think anyone else can do a better job on what you have bought of your hard earned money.
So why don’t we help each other in getting this going.
Yeah, we need help from the experts on service which are not in the owners manual. Eg. the owners manual doesn’t talk about the valve clearance adjustment which changes with use if not set right it will result in improper Air fuel mixture and engine noise(owners manual 6-15).Last edited by RED; 12-10-2008, 12:00 AM.
