Hi everyone this is ashish aka shadowboy, just bought for myself my new steed, Yamaha R15 in Blazing Red on November 29, 2008, before this i used to ride Yamaha enticer, I still own it, and use it daily for office use,
Attached Pics of new steed

I do have couple of questions
1) What fuel you guys are using, the dealer told me, either use normal or speed but keep it constant and don’t vary?? And amazingly I am getting a very good mileage close to 45-48kmpl, so my question is can we change fuel alternately, coz sometimes you don’t get speed, and sometimes you don’t get normal unleaded.
2) Has anyone seen a small orange light in middle of RPM meter, it keeps on blinking , what is this light, I don’t have anything written about it on the manual also??
3) I have clocked 310km till now- there is lot of heat generated from the engine, though I am following the manual and I have not even exceeded 5K rpm, I keep her in 4K region. In 6th gear at 4K Rpm it’s already doing 62Kmph…I think there is speedo error also???
How can we correct the speedo error?
And does the engine heat up so much initially ???
4) The dealer told me keep the bike away from water as much as possible, as its metal parts are prone to get rust, so what is solution if I want to clean her??
5) Which HID kit supports R15 battery?? Coz I planning to change it’s lights..

The name of the new lubricant used at the Yamaha CompanyOriginally posted by SAGARR_46 View Postdoes "dry" mean something that's powdery? Wow :|
EDIT:
Check this, i guess this's what you were talking about, but it doesn't seem to be "dry" :|
https://www.yamahagenuineparts.com/Y...e&Year=&Model=
Showroom in Pune is Yamalube Super Chain Oil Dry which is specially produced for O-ring chain types. And no its not powdery... it just forms a lamination kinda lube coat of the chain which can be cleaned easily using Yamalube chain cleaners during lubrication and servicing.[/quote]
Guys as usual after 2nd servicing and 150 odd kms the chain was squeeking too much hence went to ss to buy chain oil & chain cleaner.
As said by many earlier they still use motul oil & some synthetic cleaner
and give reason that yamaha is not provideing them with stock.
I have also ordered accessories some 10 days back and the ss guy still doesn't knw the tentative date wen they will arrive.
I than met up with the owner of the showroom and he has asked me to drop a mail to him as he will directly report to yamaha being 1 of the highest sellers of R15. P.S. The showroom guy and the workshop guy are different
What I need to ask is that is the chain cleaner available else where? Also should I write all the problems faced till now including heating, wear of disc pads..etc etc ?
Thanks in advancesigpic

my ramblings aside i did not have a any problem with diff petrols, and neither did a couple of other people i know so that may not be the cause, adulteration seems more plausible.
ANd I've used XtraPremium with no issues. Tried filling 500rs of Power for tyhe first time, and this happened.Sunny.

@ShadowBoy Congrats on your new bike
1. NO issues with the fuel, you can use normal/speed bike runs flawlessly
2.
??
3. Dont worry about the heat.. the engines heat you feel is because of the fan, once you start driving it hard it will be ok.. Dont worry about the speedo errors..
4. Keep it covered in rainy season. the rusting is only in few places..
5. Dig up this thread navnish have provided some link to HID he has installed..
Ok Now my question.. How much does the rear disk pad costs?

@santoosh I used the air pressure that you recommended(Front-25&Rear-32) for two days. Rear felt better but front was feeling weird so I filled the recommended i.e.28 in the front.
@hyd See page 8-1 in the manual. The spark plug specified is NGK/CR8E
@shadowboy Once again congrats on your new bike. BTw I have not noticed any orange light in the Tachometer. Get is checked.Yamaha YZF-R15 is Here

@ Shadowboy : No fuel issues mate, i use SPEED all the time and as per me bike feels better than normal petrol.Get the light thing checked i don't see any in mine.
I usualy wash my R every sunday morning its been > 2 months now, i don't see any signs of rust, others have mentioned about. I am keeping my fingers crossed though.

Also, from my experience... Yamaha Pro Service centers are better then dealer centers. I have been to the one in Delhi ( near Apollo) and there service quality + staff is much better. The staff looked like college passout's to me, so i asked one he said, he was an automobile engineer @ YMI and as a part of training program allocated field hours in Yamaha Pro Centre. There were total of 5 of them very passionate guys about bikes and work.
On recent visit i saw them using Yamalube Chain Cleaner, was in a hurry so did'nt as much about it. So i would suggest people to visit Yamaha Pro centre if they happen to be in your city."Be who you are, and be that well"

Extra Premium is 91 octane&Speed 97 is 97 octane. You're right-97 octane is not recommended for the 1 5. Extra Premium has additives which contribute to making the engine smoother, increase mileage etc.But to really feel the difference, you need to get it filled atleast 4-5 times.Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Thanks a lot brothers , yes it was long wait but finally I got my steed, I always wanted a RXZ-5 Speed but back then it’s production had stopped and I took enticer, still my hunger for performance was still there, and when R15 was launched I felt nothing better than owning an R series from Yamaha.
@mithun: Thanks mithun for answering my queries, I am searching for navnish for his views on HIDs
@driftking: Thanks a lot driftking , it’s pleasure to be part of family, besides if you may know, I am die hard fan for Yamaha, right from RX days, I wanted to know how does it feel post 7k rpm, does the R15 has same power burst like a Rx-5speed or am I expecting two much, some how I resisting hard on my urge to open the throttle at least till runin 1000km. so what is feel like post 7k?????
@suhail: Hey suhail thanks , I am using speed since day one, I guess after 1500km I will feel the performance and feel of using speed , but for some reason I am really getting a very good mileage , much much better than my enticer, maybe coz I am not pushing her???
Also I wanted to know, if I put HID kit , won’t it tamper with the warranty
