      • Doubt!

Guys...I bought my black r15 abt a month back and have been living a dream ever since....but i have a few doubts...pardon me if they are stupid..this is my first bike...
        1. I realized that at lower gears, you can shift gears without the clutch, especially while down shifting. Is this normal??
        2. Even if it is..I had this bad experience. It was a traffic stop, and i had left the engine running, in neutral. I had taken my hands off the handle bar and was resting my right foot on the road while the left one was gently placed on the gear lever. By mistake, i exerted a slight force on the lever, the bike jerked forward to and the engine stopped, and I almost lost balance. Is this supposed to happen??..as in can we shift to 1st without clutch??
        3. Also, suppose we are in 5th gear, and we have to stop suddenly, at stationary position, its not possible to shift all the way down without releasing the clutch (working the engine) a little or moving the bike (wheels) right??
        Thanks in advance

        • Clutchless shifts are done by many on purpose for more push while in drag races etc. Doing it once in a while will not harm your engine or gearbox.
Today I was forced to downshift all the gears to neutral&push since my bike's clutch cable snapped on the way to office.

Did the cable broke off from the lever end or from the gearbox end?

How hard was it to change gears without using the clutch to bring it to neutral?

PS: a new cable will cost 88 bucks.

Took the bike to the SVC two days back turned out the chain was loose so the guys at the svc tightened it, cleaned and lubed it! The chain noise had reduced but then i started to get vibes on my footrests They then slightly adjusted the chain and things seemed to be fine! But now the vibes are back and everytime i slow down i feel a " ghaaaaaarrrrrr" feeling from the rear and from my footrests!

And now apart from this my fuel sensor seems to have conked! Shows reserve for sometime then automatically resets! Keeps fluctuating even on a straight! filled fuel twice in the past two days!

Any suggestions?! I ll be taking it to the SVC again coming saturday! Im totally down, all was well till the second service!

could someone help me with this please?
No its not about speed, its about turning and shifting those gears!

Got the thermo sensor in Orion Motors when I went in person.

Now gurus and experts, please help me out. In a span of 3000 Kms, the thermo sensor has gone for a toss three times. Everytime I get the engine warning light and error code of 21, service centre simply replaces the thermo sensor. I just want to know the root cause. Could the faulty wiring or fan relay be an issue.

With the engine warning light coming up and thermo sensor going kaput every now and than, I am scared of long rides. Please help me out.

it is normal but try to avoid it as it will cause more wear and tear(experts here can shed some light, and I am an amateur)

yes, it is supposed to happen and gear can be shifted to 1st without clutch but again more wear and tear.

I think so. not been a situation like this(was in 3rd sometimes and shifted down easily).

                  Thanks in advance

I've some queries which got me confused.
I've a blue R15 and its my first bike. I hadn't ridden a bike since almost 10 years till I bought it in May'11.

                  Congratulations on your Ride

I loved it since the first day.. However, I've got a little frustrated since the First Servicing.

The bike was smooth and handling superb before the first Service (I once had to ride >1km with a flat rear tyre) even then there was not any issue of handling.

But, since the day I got it serviced, I'm having issues now and then.
Nowadays, I'm not feeling too confident while riding it even in the office hours with low speed... There is a khat sound every now and then from the front side; I'm not sure whether its coming from near handle bars or the shockers. but whenever I go through the breakers or small bumps on the road it seems like something gets hit near front. Morevover, The Front seems to vibrate in up and down motion like [ /\/\/\/ ] (tried to imitate the direction ). Also, it seems that the Shockers are too soft/hard as it travels too deep and up. My friend has even checked it by pulling the handle up and the front Shockers traveled upward with ease while the tyre was still touching the ground and please note that it wasn't pressed but was in normal stationary state.

I had similar experiences which started on the first few months and the same still persists. Try getting the cone set tightened. once tightened it will be ok for 1-2months(as in my case) but it gets slightly loose slightly again.
sit on the Bike and hold her straight. have a friend kick the front tyre lightly, if you hear the same sound then its the cone set.

As I'm a noob regarding the caring of such a good machine, I assume I've missed something to check at first service... Now I get to know a few things since then while discussing with a few friends...
such as, The Chain was too loose after servicing and so, Gear shifts were not smooth and I was hearing a lot of noise from rear. Chain wasn't lubed after washing at the time of Servicing and I'm afraid to get it lubed outside (they might use the burnt engine oil).

I visited the SVC two times since the first service but the issue is still not solved.. they sometimes say the chain lube is not available, would do it later.. They tightened the chain but the khat sound still persists...
I even had a fall a few days ago (mentioned somewhere in earlier pages) and was made a fool by the SVC manager in paying them 1300Rs for shocker alignment (which I later came to know, should not be misaligned
at such low speed impact or stationary fall)...

But the Shocker problem is still not rectified.

is it possible that I've been unfortunate and got a defective bike or the SVC is making fool of me.
I too am a noob and the svc people are only after the Money and its the same everywhere. if we are not able to diagnose a prob correctly, they will confidently tell that the part "x" or part "y" is bad even if they are not sure and we have to run after them for getting a small thing done

My friend is planning to buy a used r15 and might need to cange these..
And by the way, guys, is 64k reasonable for a 2008 r15??
                    Thankyou.

It's been clearly mentioned in the owner's manual that the drivetrain is not made for forced shifting , so you should never do that else you will ruin your gearbox. you should never do that.
While downshifting from 6th or 5th to 1st, some wheel movement is required when the bike is almost stationary.

I went to SVC today and insisted on Checking the Bike properly... Told them it seems that the cone set is loose...

The SVC Manager, rode it.. said its ok.. I blantly told him too check with the mechanic.. the sound comes when riding above 30-kmph and at bumps... then the mechanic checked it by riding... I had a feeling that
something was seriously wrong by the expression on his face... they took the bike inside the workshop.... after 5 minutes another SVC manager takes the bike out.. rides for approx 100 mtrs.. gets back in workshop.. came after about 10 mins and told me its OK now...
I asked what was wrong but he didn't said anything about the problem... told me that its ok.. there wasn't any problem...

I left for office after that and indeed the issue was resolved... went upto 90kmph for a few seconds (in the peak traffic hours) and it was smoother than earlier.. I think it would be smoother after lubing the chain (They didn't lubed it as they don't have stock)..

finally, I bought the Chain spray today from TVS SVC... and lubed the chain as soon as I was back to home..

would tell about smoothness later tomorrow.. err.. I mean today evening

If it was the case of a loose cone set(seems so), it can be tightened easily within 5mins and I suspect they did the same

these people will take you for a ride at the slightest opportunity and we can't even do anything due to lack of knowledge about things. been in similar situations a lot of times(poor me)
only solution is to devote time and enlighten ourselves as in our Country "sales" comes first and no one(sellers) cares about "service" unlike in other countries

                            • folks, what is the average life of r15's rear tyre? mine has done 17.5k kms on odo and has some 4 punctures.. one old puncture was leaking air again and got it sealed again.. the pucture repair guy told me to change the rear tyre as its worn out.. but the svc guy told me the tyres last upto 35k kms... is it true... i have heard people changing tyres as early as 9000kms.. am not facing any problem whil hard braking or panic braking.. i just am not able to take lean angles as earlier, obviously because of wearing out of tyres... it doesnt instill confidence in me as earlier while taking sharp and quick turns in busy traffic to overtake vehicles and squeeze through.. is it time to change the tyre? the front tyre is just fine.. not a single puncture so far and looks good.. doesn't look worn out..

                              • Hey guys i rode my 1.3k kms old r15 in very harsh conditions and i experienced some problems which i would like to share and would like to get some insights by fellow riders...
I rode it for about 25 kms in full on "kaccha road" which was full of round stones and you have to ride on them.
I was with a pillion and the bike was dancing all over. The control of this bike is really dreadful in offroading conditions.
Anyhow after the ride the sound of my bike changed completely. I can now distictly hear strokes from exhaust unlike before.
Rear makes "tak" sound when it hits small patches in road.
I've lost confidence in bending the bike due to poor performance of the rear suspension.
My front wheel had a puncture.
So i gave my bike for an early free service at 1400 kms and told my problems to the mech.
He said he has fixed everything but the puncture as its to small to be detected. He tightened the chain, changed oil, checked the suspension and about the sound he said it was quite normal.
But the thing is, i still feel its lacking its punch. Also the ride is much less refined. Plus the "tak" sound is still there.
What do you think could be the problem?
Also about the puncture he said to get "injection" or something like that. He said for treating minor punctures the introduce a liquid into the tire which seals off the puchtures from within and its the only solution for my case. It costs 1400/- for both tyres and is a permanent remedy for minor puchtures. I refused as i need to investigate more about this. So has anyone heard about something like this?
Also i am getting along by filling up air every 3 days. Is it true that minor puchtures are hard to get rid of in tubeless tyres?
If you made it this far, a big Thank You for reading my looooong post. Any comments will be welcome....
