    • Oil leakage

      Hi guys,

I noticed an oil patch where i park, both at home as well as at office. Not a very big one, jus a small patch.. ~10ml or so. First I checked along the bore and stuff to see if it was leaking, coz i recently converted my baby to an R165. Nothin there. Next looked under, to the oil drain bolt, and found oil around the bolt. I was afraid of this coz i read elsewhere that the oil bolt shouldnt be tightened too much or it will break.. Always told the mechs that whenever i did an oil change.

Now I dunno what i can do about it.. Do u guys think the SVC will have this bolt? and whether this prob can be fixed? Please give me ur inputs..

      • Need Help

So here I am once again bikeless.

Sold my 2009 Honda CBF Stunner couple of days ago. & my hunt for an R15 begins. I was planning to buy a new one, but its out of my budget. So looking for decent used one.

Now i have shortlisted some bikes on sale around borivali to andheri, as i live in Goregaon & work at Malad. Now the main problem is, when it comes to judging used bikes I am a total noob. Also this is no ordinary bike.

So i need help from my fellow xbhpiens, who own an R15 to guide me to buy 1. If you can come in person to see the bike, it will be most helpfull.

Also if some one is planning to sell his R15, please let me know. My budget is around 70K.

@Mods: Please forgive me if posted in wrong section.

          Hi,

Go for the below mentioned things before you zero on a second hand R15.

          1. Test ride it to check the initial vibrations while revving the engine slowly.
          2. Check its chain quality(rusted or well maintained) and see if the chain sound comes up during the riding time.
          3. For performance, you need to rev it high which I do not think the owner would allow you. If he allows, check its initial acceleration. Try to attain a speed of 100 on the 4th gear. If it does that fine, it can easily do 130+ on 5th gear.
          4. After you have got an used R15, do no delay in changing the throttle( accelerator) cable and clutch cable.

I hope these things help you,

AFAIK this behavior is same for R15 of all series. After engine warmup, RPM settles down from >=1500 to idle RPM(1200-1500).

You're in the wrong place. This is the R15 thread

Honestly, you don't need to tell the mechanics what to do. They have been trained, formally or informally. Some take it offensively if you you tell them what to do.

Its possible that the drain bolt is either loose, or misaligned (negligible chances). Just try tightening it yourself man.
The SVCs should have the stock of the drain bolt, in case its damaged on your bike. You might also want to replace the o-ring on the drain bolt, as that might be damaged / having a small hole visible/ invisible to the naked eye.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

Yes with my bike its the same as when I got her a year back, I was very worried about this issue. I got my bike checked with the Pro-Service guys and they told me that 38B1 doesnt have an auto choke, which is why when parked overnight the starting idling rpm would be less but once the engine warms up it would come in between 1200-1500rpm and thats what has been happening since day one...... or may be its only my bike which doesnt have an auto-choke and yes when the engine is warmed up, the bike becomes super smooth and amazing throttle response I have been riding her hard and I have crossed 22500km on ODO already.
whereas my friend has a 20P1 his starting idling rpm is somewhere in between 1500-2000rpm and it comes down to 1200-1500rpm after sometime.

                        • Why are you guys so worried about the stupid autochoke thing? It's purpose is to warm up your engine before the ride so that engine oil is spread inside the engine well. Set your idle rpm on a warmed up engine to 1100-1300 rpm and then forget about it, it is a very minor component. It will go up to whatever rpm level is required for the engine to warm up, hence in winters it may go to 1800 while in summer you might not find it going above 1500.

A general message to all r15 riders, People it is just a bike. A very expensive, sexy bike, but it is after all, just a bike. Spend more time riding it than sitting on your pc fretting about minor things.

This thread is flooded with posts that hold no real value, and due to that important informative posts get neglected.

bro, i really doubt what your mech. told you is true...
R15 has a fast idle mechanism involved, which on starting the bike always will keep the rpm higher than the normal idle rpm..this feature not only helps in warming up the bike faster but also prevents it from switching off again and again when cold (commonly seen in bikes with carburettors..)..
in fact all vehicles with FI systems involve this mechanism..even in cars..

bike starting with low rpms and then increasing seems awkward..
has it always been as it is in your bike...???
don't you have problems starting it in cold conditions???
