Thanks man. I have been a silent observer of this thread whose quality is going down by the day.

What is inside of this burning kit?? what is the use?

I am waiting for my kit, may be it will come with in few days
    Happy to help.
The kit consists of the side fairings (2 Left + 2 Right), & the panel below the radiator.
The fairings look the same & are made up of a better material now I believe. It is supposed to be more resistant to impact I am told, & will probably burn less easily than the earlier ones.
The panel below the radiator which earlier had 2 gaping holes, now has mesh installed. The mesh is same as the one in the right side fairing.

I have put up details in my post some 2 months back on this thread. You can search for it.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

    • I heard from one of my friends that he was going to chrome coat the inner layer of his cylinders. Could any one tell me what exactly it is, I did try to find out about it online but dint get any info on it.

            Why would you do that?
What planet is your friend on?
What bike has he got? with more than one cylinder can't be an R15

Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

Really? The older kit is a fire hazard? Hearing this for the 1st time.

Seems like you don't read this thread often. The burning kit was out some 3 months back in Delhi IIRC.

I have no background about the reason for the kit, but yes that's what it does.

I did read your report on the kit some 2 months back.

Actually it makes perfect sense - the gaps can allow some combustible material to come in contact wit the exhaust and hence can be a fire hazard.

While what I was thinking was along these lines - how can the ABS plastic material of the older fairing catch fire easily compared to the newer kit.

                      • ^^^ depends on your riding style and the way you use your breaks. I had to change my front ones at 9,000 kms whereas the rear ones are still going strong at 12,000 kms.

Pardon my saying so, but your friend is either a moron or has the habit of listening to morons!!!!

What he is talking about is called or is a variation of what is known as Nikasil coating. The Nikasil coating process was developed by the famous German firm Mahle for use in Wankel engines. Subsequently it was also used by many major auto companies of regular I.C. piston engines. If my recollection is right Hero Puch was one of the first to introduce Nikasil plated cylinders in their mopeds (I can't recall who the other company). However, the Nikasil plated cylinders never really took off as they were venerable to bad fuel and air quality.

Now to why your friend is a moron; I am assuming (and I am most probably right) that he has been talking to someone who has seen the R15 cylinder or has seen one of these Nikasil coated cylinders. When one sees these type of cylinders the first impression that is formed is that its chrome plated. Well the fact is that it is not simple chrome plating. To cut the long story short; there is different metallurgy and processes involved. Also these type of coated cylinders DO NOT have the traditional cylinder liner.

Incidentally Yamaha calls its process DiASil wherein it has developed a patented process to use an aluminum alloy which is coated onto the cylinder to create a hard abrasion resistant liner.

Simple chrome plating will not last even 5 minutes and will quite possibly wreak the engine.

The idea is to firstly do the process on a worn out or blown engine, where replacement parts are either unavailable or uneconomical to replace, this process will also increase the cc's of an engine, as far as i know it's not something you would do unless you need to, it can shorten engine life, the friction of the engine can wear away the chrome plating at fast rate (subject to temperature) so unless you engine is in a bad state, i can't see why you would do that. I guess he has been told his bike will go quicker, anything to make a quick buck.

See this link, it may help http://www.dansmc.com/pistons.htm
