NO WAY. Don't even think about it unless you're facing issues that can't be fixed without opening the engine.Originally posted by raman sriharsha View Posthi all,,

A general service would not warrant opening up the engine.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

I'm pretty sure your friend doesn't know much about bikes.Originally posted by raman sriharsha View Post^^^ thanks tibby bhai...its a vial advice for me...

To give you a perspective, Sarvajit got his Fiero's head opened (I think the bike has done nearly 30k Kms), & it turned out to be spanking good.
The R15 has a gem of an engine, so you can imagine the state of it, if opened.

There is no concrete official word on a new R15..I say just go ahead and book one now if you are all ready for it!"I set out running but I take my time, a friend of the devil is a friend of mine. If I get home before day light, just might get some sleep tonight" - The Grateful Dead.

And the head was almost like new, only that the packing needed change. The valve train, etc.were also as good as new. Very less carbon deposit.
@raman sriharsha: If a regular 2 valve air cooled TVS engine can last this long with just timely oil change, you can expect at least 3 times the life IMO from the liquid cooled, 4 valved forged aluminium R15 engine.

WARNING
Guys went in for service yesterday at HILTON TVM. they have a bunch of new recruits who have no idea what a bike is and will damage your bike without doubt. they did so with mine wen i went in for first service yesterday. sent a mail to yamaha backoffice will attach it here.

Respected sir,
This is to notify that the After-sales service at Hilton Yamaha , trivandrum is very poor.
MY name is NIBIN NAJEEB
I Currently own a 2011 January R15 chassis no.MEI38BD11B2022168. as i used to have an Fz before this chassis no.ME121C054A2001883 and a Gladiator SS before that chassis no.ME135B012A2053918.
I had just finished my run in of 1000km and i went in for service on 14 FEB around 12:30 afternoon . i told them just to check the coolant level, brake bite, chain slack and other simple things.
the new recruits who were IDIOTS put the bike on the center stand with the front wheel on the ground and then turned the handle, they said "the handle is hard to turn, we should adjust it."
i said "ok if it is hard then do it, however i felt nothing wrong." the idiots took out a hammer and a philips head screw driver and started banging away at the bolt just above the steering neck part no 20PF343500 and also slightly tore the Cover,BALL race 2 Part no. 20PF341600.
after some struggle i saw a mechanic in uniform come and say 'what are you doing?' he said 'I'm adjusting the handle tightness.', then the mechanic said put weight on the back of the bike, the front wheel will lift , now turn the handle.' . i noticed he realized his mistake. then the idiot tightened it the same way(with the hammer and screwdriver) and said to me 'its ok now'
i checked and the fool had chipped the bolts under the handle. without the proper tools.
if this is the way YAMAHA treats your LOYAL customers then... that's it. next time HONDA CBR.
Please address this issue, meanwhile get back to me. I take good care of my bikes and i dont like to give it to inexperienced people.
i would much prefer a replacement part.

Since Motul coolants are used, just try at any authorised Motul distributor.Originally posted by aditaya.chopra View Postfrends plz reply to my post
Ask for the particular grade.
Also, call up a few other Yamaha dealers near your place. Coolants should be fast moving and available at any time.
Also consider changing service centre. If no coolant is in stock, it shows irresponsibility.
