  • @ whosoever asked about brake pads wearing out

If u use it the right way , its gonna last . No issues on mine , opened and seen both of them.most ppl keep their foot on the rear pedal making the pads wear out quickly , thats the pblm.

Looking at this bajaj 200 vs yamaha r15 vs tvs rtr 160 opinions and defending of each one , at the end of the day , all the 3 company guys would be reading this thread and laughing at us .

How much ever we discuss , all it matters to them is their sales figures ..
    Bajaj still sells..
    tvs is selling...
    yam is starting to sell..
    Thats all mattters to them..

    @aryan
just cos a 160 cc machine keeps up with a 200 cc, whats the shame in it ????so u mean to say bajaj doesnt know how to make bikes?
    so u are u ashamed that u have a pulsar ????

and calling our 10-20 30 cc seperated bikes as performance bikes is foolish in the first case.
Each of the bikes have their own set of good's and bads.So y not just accept it rather than keep cribbing about it ??

    Santa

@all pls stick to posting ur ownership exp with the r15 rather than comparisons.

Who's cribbing and who's ashamed anyways!? I am happy that the RTR is a superb machine..Nothing else!

Yeah, let's get back to the topic anyways...

      • @santa :- any idea how to loosen the brake pad. My brake pad is always in slight contact with the rear disc and am sure they will wear out by 5k odd km. If possible post pics on how to remove the pads and adjust the brake.

there is no adjustment for the gap ,its preset. Generally during the rains , the mud/slush enters and starts creating a squeakin noise.which could be the reason for u to feel thats its always in contact.

On stock, the gap is perfect , its just a few mm which is reqd and is sufficient.
Do this - bend the bike on the side stand and ask someone to rotate the rear wheel for you and see if its binding.
If so , take it down to any of the SC and get it Overhauled(Open ,Clean wash the wheel, clean the pad with the pressurised air , clean the single pot caliper)
The postiton of the foot is in such a way that a little u try to rest on it , it starts holding,
Avoid using the rear that frequently though.
Next time when i open the pad , will take a few pics . Its V easy and DIY job.

          • My bike makes a metallic 'tonnn' kind of noise sometimes when I hit potholes, I used to think that it was the side stand hitting the chassis, but the sound comes from somewhere underneath the battery. The SS here of course lives in a state of perpetual denial, so its useless to talk to them. (I actually did talk to them, they said theres no noise).

Any suggestions on how I go about tackling this? Or has someone faced something like this? I live in a place where the roads are abysmally and almost ubiquitously bad, so only take her out to special places at special times, and
am extremely careful in the bad patches, drive slow and steady there.

            • Remove the tool kit and ride , see if it happens.
I guess it would be the tool kit making the noise

                • the gap was never present man .. initially I thought the pads are new and hence the contact .. but now I see the piston moving in as the pad wears. Hence it has to be adjusted. And which SS knows anything about this stuff ?

                  • Blr Wheels .
They do a good job ( atleast for me )

                    The gap was never there
                    Concern !!
Ok do one thing , take a ride on the ring road , 3-5kms , no traffic , stop and see if the rear disc is hot /v hot/ ok ok np kind .Then we ll see. Should not be a pblm , If so it ll be minor , can work it out

                    • I know for a fact there is no gap man .. the rear disc will be very hot after every ride .. I agree it's minor but I need a SS who can do some work. panache is useless. I'll try bangalore wheels. let's see.

I just hope the rotor has not taken any damage due to the heat .. it's vented so should be fine.

and yea guys regarding the rusting of the bike at certain places....i had gone through the owners manual and behind every free service coupon there is a list of things YSS guys are supposed to do before they give the delivery....and one of it is clean and polishing of the bike...so in every free service of yours....u can get ure baby polished for free....so i guess no paint job will be required...
                          peace..

Well jokes apart with white light visibility on TAR rd ie black color is poor but works very good on cement RD which is graying in color.
and in the scenario mithun mentioned it will go Mr. India.

There are many things written in the manual that the YSS guys don't follow, eg.1st service&oil filter change at 500kms. Inspite of reminding, they forced me to come only after 1000kms.I would suggest buying a polish can for around Rs.50 from a local spare parts dealer. You have different kinds of polish for metal parts too. I don't think you need to worry too much about rust it if you keep your 'baby' clean most of the time. Alternatively, you can get an Autoglym treatment done which is around twice a year (Rs.400 for an annual package here at 3B Matrix, Hyderabad). This will rid you of fading, rusting&other tensions forever!

And you'll have cool looking LED Aux lamps that Yamaha thinks can sell for 500 bucks!
See how people try to make fools out of us, just a little bit of electronic knowledge is all that it needs! an MRP of 500 Rupees for something that can actually be made for under 20 bucks!
Are you sure of this? I thought Yamaha said the LEDs are 3 times more powerful than those on the market? Has anyone got them as an accessory? I have no idea coz I haven't seen the market ones, neither the Yamaha accessory LEDs.
